The Fantasy Football Scout Leagues Round-Up

With the third international break of the season upon us, we’re afforded time to assess the leading contenders in the Fantasy Football Scout leagues across a variety of games. With leagues in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Ultimate Fantasy Premier League,Sky Sports and Sun Dream Team, there’s plenty to catch up on.

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE

Jon Mjelde surged to the top of our Scout League – and 20th in the overall rankings – by way of a 64-point haul this Gameweek. His decision to captain Romelu Lukaku paid dividends, while Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane also found the target. Although all four of Jon’s midfielders drew blanks, clean sheets from David de Gea, Virgil van Dijk and Aleksandar Kolarov bolstered his score.

Despite posting 60 points (15 above the average), Mark Kalafatas was displaced from the top spot following the last round of fixtures. The 29th-ranked manager opted for a 3-5-2 set-up, deploying Vardy and Lukaku as his strike partnership. Manuel Lanzini (1% ownership) proved to an excellent differential, while Mesut Ozil carded a handy eight points.

Samuel Slennet – who sat at the summit when we last penned a leagues round-up – sits in third place by virtue of a 57-point Gameweek. Samuel was rewarded for handing Vardy the skipper’s armband and also profited from Jack Butland’s and Daryl Janmaat’s shut-out points.

Amassing 72 points, Chris Rigden propelled himself into fourth place. A back four that included the likes of Butland and Scott Dann combined for 31 points. In the attacking positions, Ozil, Lukaku and Vardy (captain) brought home the bacon.

Rounding off the top five, Panna Fricker (65 points) also excelled on the defensive front after plumping for double Manchester City coverage (Bacary Sagna and Kolarov). Captain Harry Kane and Vardy complemented her defensive returns.

We’re pleased to say we sit in top spot in the League of Leagues as we look to defend our title for another season. To join this league use the code: 600-520

FPL MEMBERS SCOUT LEAGUE

Jon Mjelde is also the frontrunner in the Members League and boasts a 34-point lead at the top of the leaderboard.

Andrew Dougan retained his second spot from last Gameweek with a tally of 48 points. Although his Alexis Sanchez captaincy failed to hit the mark, Vardy, Lukaku, Butland and Kolarov came up trumps.

Third-place Marsel Levi was left frustrated by Wilfried Bony’s early withdrawal but still managed to accrue 50 points. Beyond a Vardy captaincy, Kolarov, Ozil and De Gea were his key performers.

The curiously named Zunker 1 will have some tinkering to do in the wake of injuries to Mamadou Sakho and Dimitri Payet. Nonetheless, they notched a respectable 48 points, owing to a Lukaku captaincy and solid returns from the likes of Vardy and Marcos Rojo.

Trev Grant edged into the top five after picking up 49 points. Owning Payet and Bony thwarted his progress, but a captained Vardy, Kolarov and Chris Smalling rescued his Gameweek.

ULTIMATE FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE

Panna Fricker’s success extends to Ultimate Fantasy Premier League ladder, where she sits in the gold-medal berth. A 60-point Gameweek elevated her to a total score of 932 – good enough for second in the overall rankings.

John Donnelly is hot on the heels of Panna with 928 points, having relinquished the top spot due to a disappointing 30-point haul. Ryan Evans slipped into third position with a score of 920, despite beating the 43-point average by five points.

Michael Wong ended this Gameweek on 915 points after tallying 63 points – no one in the top 50 surpassed that total on the weekend. Dean Howard retains a place in the top five but is now five points adrift (910) of Michael Wong.

To join this league, use the code: 1258-516.

SKY SPORTS FANTASY FOOTBALL

Alan Wood (826 points) has taken a commanding lead at the peak of the Scout League, with Mark William (792) 34 points back in second place. Jeff Payne (783) is clinging onto third by a one-point margin yet has chalked up five more goals than Alan Wood.

We currently sits in fourth spot in the league of leagues as we look to defend our crown. To join this league use the league name: FFScout and the code: 8009000

SUN DREAM TEAM

Jeff Payne (776 points) enjoys a 10-point lead at the top of the table, with Chris Smalling (93) tallying the most points among his 11-man squad. He’s profited greatly from a back five comprised entirely of Manchester United defenders, although there’s work to be done with injuries to Luke Shaw and Payet.

David O Byrne (766 points) fronts the chasing pack. Amassing 103 points, Graziano Pelle has been his star man, while Alexis Sanchez’s 87 points have also been impactful. A 23-point gap between him and Tony H. (743) has opened up, with the latter harvesting 187 points from his two-man strike partnership (Harry Kane and Pelle).

Nigel Dodds (739) has loaded up with seven of Louis van Gaal’s troops, including Wayne Rooney (104 points). He’s fending off the challenge from Tim Mongiat (738), who’s just one point adrift of fourth place and also possesses a team with a distinct Man United flavour.

  1. Leicester for Europe and Vardy a Season Keeper

Maybe Leicester can finish top 6... Remember Newcastle's effort for the top 4, Leicester's team is almost as good as that Newcastle team.

Also the top 4 are lacking quality bar City and Arsenal due to injuries and poor form (chelsea).

On that bombshell, surely it's worth keeping Vardy for the whole season? A worthy challenger to Harry Kane's status last year.

Yeah i do. Aside from squad depth, Leicester also lack a defence. I think they'll continue to score plenty as that's their style this season. Chelsea are awful right now, but could pick up points in the favourable fixtures now, i just don't see them staying this bad. Also they'll surely spend in Jan.

Perhaps so. I don't think you can go wrong with selling him, and finding someone with easier fixtures. But also, i see the reasons to keep, as he was bought cheap and Leicester are capable of scoring in these tough games.

you can't say its been 'proven'

you can say 'commonly' or 'likely'

top 4 leicester finish is a possibility, although I think there is only a good chance of this happening if mahrez & vardy stay injury free all season

True. But with Leicester and a manager in Ranieri, they stand the best chance.

Also its worth noting that changes occurs every 5 years. New top 4 will emerge, remember when Man City were nothing.. Also Liverpool lost the top 4 status.

Spurs also broke into the top 4 under Redknapp but a lot of people said can they keep this up?

it happened to West Ham this season, they are the team who have dropped off. Leicester seem a bit more stable, no doubt they will drop but I wouldn't be surprised to see them challenge for 4th place

my point is a team with a good attack can do very well, no matter how bad their defence was.

we would have won the league had our defence been decent, but even with the a bad defence we still managed to challenge the title. I know we had Suarez but still.

I don't think you can throw Chelsea and top four in same sentence anymore. As things stand it's City/Arsenal battling for title with Utd/Spurs/Pool the big guns going for top4. Leicester could sneak in but what they lack is squad depth and a couple of injuries could see them drop.

      1. sully29

United aren't going to be battling for the top four, they're a few steps ahead of either Liverpool or Spurs. You're right about Leicester though, the lack of depth in their squad will inevitably burn them out. Even just an injury to either Vardy or Mahrez would damage them quite a lot.

        1. djenzio
          • 9 Years
          8 years, 6 months ago

yeah, it's possible that they will have no injury but the problem with them is they are more vulnerable than bigger teams and have no depth, if they can keep Mahrez/Vardy fit they will do well.

I see Mahrez as a better option than Vardy as season keeper.

The simple reason being, there are 5 slots in the midfield as compared to 3 in strikers.

Even though Vardy is doing wonders and so as Leicester, when their form fades away and other strikers are doing good, you'll be wanting to drop Vardy for some other striker, not so the case with Mahrez, who most of us bought as their enabling midfielder anyway and can keep with those two extra slots being there.

Not hugely bothered about predicting where Leicester will finish as I don't think it is really relevant when deciding whether to keep the Leicester duo.

Glad someone agrees with me on Vardy's potential as a season keeper though! Following on from my piece last week on this topic I have recently submitted another article looking at their upcoming fixtures.

        Niice Tony.
I was in 3rd year in college. I spent that summer working on a lovely Greek island called Paros as a barman in a beachside bar.
Ireland won the match and the owner, who was a massive crook and owned everything and everyone, on the island treated, me to the best single malt I've ever had. On board his yacht with lots of glam greek young wans.
Greece had a mare WC that year but he kept giving me the night off to watch matches with him as he felt I was a lucky Irish charm.
Meanwhile I was drinking his bar dry for free and riding all around me like a wild buck.
        Good times 😀

And look at how that guy defending with his back to Maradona, who has the easiest job to pass him by the second that he glances over his shoulder to see where Maradona is. Tony Parkes (Blackburn Rovers) lobbing a young Peter Shilton from the six yard box in a night cup match at Ewood on Wed 29th August, 1979 v Nottingham Forest.

Coming from a family that adores football, I was interested in football at a young age.
In 2002, a family member had told me about a player in the Brazilian national team that had been injured for almost 2 years. I was 6 at the time.
I wanted see how that player would react, especially as that same person told me that Brazil had struggled to qualify for the world cup.
I watched Ronaldo play during that WC with passion I hadn't seen before, especially for a player that had been previously injured.
His goal against Turkey, I think, was the one that made me look at football from a different and closer perspective.
Then, I started to watch his pre-injury videos which were not live...
Today, I have in my videos library an entire section for Ronaldo 🙂

The 1985 FA cup final winner, Big Norman scoring that extra time goal to clinch the trophy. Unbelievable!

Also Robbo's in the semi-final replay was outstanding.

Utd basically beat the two best teams in Europe to win the FA cup that year, as Everton had already won the Cup Winners cup and the Division 1 title, and Liverpool were the European cup holders back in the final against Juve.

      Hence my grav! Stormin' Norman.

The 1998 World Cup, when I was 7, was when I really fell in love with football. It was initially my Dad telling me about this prodigy Ronaldo, then getting to watch him play, but Bergkamp's goal against Argentina was when I saw how beautiful the game could be (it may well be my favourite goal of all time).

I have Sanchez, Mahrez, KDB, 5th is Drinkwater

Lukaku, Vardy, Kane uptop, will do Lukaku-->Aguero eventually, but need a cheaper replacement for Payet, or I could downgrade KDB eventually when Aguero is back. Thoughts?

Massive rotation risk, which isn't what I'd want from a fifth mid when the December fixtures are upon us.

I did Payet > Ozil today and will look to sell Kolarov next week (to Simpson probably) in order to fund Aguero for GW15:

    ..................Butland
.....Bellerin - Kolarov - Van Dijk
Sanchez - Ozil - De Bruyne - Mahrez
    .........Pelle - Lukaku - Vardy

    McCarthy; Williams, Sinclair, Richards

3.1m left in the bank, feeling good about this coming week

If United step up their creativity even a touch I think they're a sure bet for top 3 and strong contender for top 2 or even a title challenge. I feel like Man City and Arsenal don't have solid defenses so much as they have some solid defenders that make things tick, whereas Spurs and United seem to have more of a system that different pieces plug into neatly.

Or I could be crazy 😉

Poch is a defensive manager, Spurs fans want to see exciting football. I don't find Spurs exciting to watch. I also feel, Spurs defence can be got at. Stats will argue against my comment.

Giroud missed some guilt edge chances on Sunday.

We haven't been exciting to watch since Redknapp, but Redknapp was a terrible coach. AVB was just boring us to death without even giving defensive resoluteness. With Poch, yes it isn't exciting but we actually look like we know how to defend. Believe me, that is new territory for Spurs. And we're playing solid football and look calm on the ball. No flashy players but everyone knows their role and plays it well.

Ok, added a few more options to the list below. Who scores more this GW? And would be better to have long term? (All those mid's are going to be a "5th mid")

    A) Pelle (STK) + Deulofeu (AVL)
    B) Aguero (LIV) + Ighalo (MUN)
    C) Aguero (LIV) + Lanzini (tot)
    D) Aguero (LIV) + Montero (BOU)
    E) Aguero (LIV) + Albrighton (new)

E means I can never get Simpson (not that I would want him)

    A) This gw - Bony (if injured) -> Ighalo (-4)
    B) Next gw - Pelle -> Aguero

    DDG
    Bellerin / Kolarov / Williams
    Sanchez / Ozil / Mahrez / KDB

    4.0; Westwood / Ward / Moreno

all quiet on the western front, I would imagine that if it was going to happen, it would have already.

cynical part of me thinks that the FA doesn't care because he's an Englishman about to equalize a record held by a foreigner 😛

those two seem a bit like traps tbh..

Villa looked much better vs City than they have all season (could be a blip) and WBA either keep a CS and are stingy as hell or let the floodgates open and concede 2+

Vardy is my choice atm too. Lukaku the only other option I've really considered so far.

With Sakho out two months, Lovren has a chance to prove himself. He has a really bad reputation but plays significantly better with Lucas in the team. He's also great from set pieces. Our two CBs lack pace though which will be a problem. Sakho has also been one of our best players.

Help me pick the bones out of this.

When Kun pinged his hamstring 463K transferred him out, also over an international break.

He didn't drop 0.3 over that period. In fact he didn't drop 0.2, or even 0.1. Yet I've seen people convinced Payet will have a triple drop.

There are lot of people convinced that FPL manipulates Aguero's price on purpose to prevent him from dropping too low in order to create diversity in teams.

They did the same with RVP and other players in the past.

Oh really? Ok, I can conceive that might be true.

I was thinking there might be some fancy algorithm that would limit impact of unexpectedly high volume of transfers, bearing in mind that it would most likely not be related to actual performances but factors such as severe injury.

        Thanks for the reply.

It's looking like it. Biting the bullet and getting Rose in, looks good value especially with those fixtures.

Pochettino has created a system for them in which they can tick along without any one player standing out.

This is good enough for a mid-table finish IMO and unless he plays Eriksen centrally and Kane stays on form for much of the season, I just can't see them finishing top 4.

I guess I am going to need to decide who I am going to replace Payet with in the 50 mins to go. It will need to be chap as chips at a maximum of 4.4. (leaving funds for Aguero)

    Wanyama, Surman or someone else?

He and Mahrez share them. He is the preferred option if the position of the ball favours neither foot
