The ScoutCast – Episode 175 – Rivals

It’s time to turn up the heat on Granville. After Harry Kane obliged with a 26-point armband return, I’ve clawed back the gap on my mancunian rival, who now sits just three points ahead in our “very personal” battle.

With the flame lit on our age-old duel, the ScoutCast is revived to resemble the days gone by, with Granville wriggling uncomfortably as we spar throughout. Jonty is on hand to mediate, taking a few blows of his own, with Granville lashing out blindly.

Around the melee, we take in another round of “rough with the smooth” and digest a slew of community questions. We chat Aguero Vs Kane, consider the merits of showing Sanchez and De Bruyne the door, and scribe our Christmas Fantasy Football wishlist.

This episode was first aired via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. You can view the unedited Google Hangout in the larger player below, or treat yourself to the buffed-up audio version via this link or the smaller player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yeah, it's just a commercial decision isn't it? Unless it's Ashes cricket it's hard to fill a ground Mon-Thurs and this just gives people chance to catch most of the day's play when they knock off work.

You'd definitely rather have the ball in your hand last 10 overs of the day. Can see some aggressive declarations with that in mind.

It's close between Deolofeu & Barkley, both have their pros & cons & suit different managers playstyles. Can't go wrong with either of them imo. Lanzini, would by third choice, & Ritchie may be interesting in three GW's.

    Good morning DZ.

This is my front 7 - is it worth doing Mane or Ayew to Barkley for a hit? Missed his price rises already.

    Sanchez Mane Ayew Mahrez
    Aguero Kane Vardy

Mane > Barkley for a hit - trade poor immediate fixtures for good long term fixtures but Mane up against a Kompany & possibly Hart-less City

Ayew > Barkley for a hit - Swansea are pants going forward but it's very very likely Ayew will be involved if, and that's a BIG IF, Swansea score.

Not for a hit. If you've missed his price rises then I wouldn't be in a rush.

See how he does at the weekend. Also with Hart and Kompany out Mane could be a good shout.

One that receives digital broadcasts rather than analogue. Should be great for receiving football and I listen to a lot of football. It removes the interferance you usually get on radio 5. PLus you get extra channels.

It's easy to caste stones though isn't it and apart from the media assassination over his obvious terrible behavior, he may not be a monster; making a sweeping statement like that is too easy.

Could be mental issues involved or things we don't know and he probably regrets it all I would imagine.

Mahrez has just looked unplayable this season. I expect LEI to continue going at teams, especially at home. United have been good defensively, but normally when good defence meets good attack, good attack wins.

          LEI 2:1 MUN

City do look woeful at the back without Kompany, but with Otty back I think they will restrict SOT. It's close though.

Thoughts on Ramsey's return and FPL potential? He will be playing in his favoured position, CM, and there is a great run of fixtures. Potential punt?

Yep, although Ozil and Sanchez are ahead of him imo. Ramsey is getting into great positions but has been incredibly wasteful for over a year.

Yeh good point, he does appear to have lost that finishing touch. I have been considering Sanchez to Ramsey swap as an Aguero enabler, but you are probably right. Holding on to Sanchez seems to make sense.

In the trickier games I think we definitely start with Flamini/Santi in the double pivot, but in the easier home games he might go with Ramsey/Santi. Most likely on the right though.

          Top 4 in December.

They are only 4 points ahead of 5th place. They could drop out of the top 4 in 2 GW's. They have also had fairly easy fixtures so far this season. They have a tough run now.

Yeah, this run of games will certainly be a big test for them. I saw a stat earlier in the week which showed they've only lost 2 games since April. That's crazy.

I genuinely think that if Mahrez & Vardy stay fit all season then they have a chance of top 4. Such a great team to watch.

It's so wide open this year imo. Got to fancy City and Arsenal to finish top 4, but the rest is pretty open. United are grinding out results but looking average. Spurs are looking the best I've seen them in years. Liverpool have turned a corner. Chelsea are capable of getting back in the mix. And Leicester are top!

Everyone talking about Leicester's inevitable downturn in form but if we look at it objectively, the over achievers so far have been manu. They've created very few chances and actually conceded quite a lot of chances relative to goals conceded, especially away from home. Been outplayed in many games and still snuck away with the win.

Comparatively, Leicester have outplayed most teams they've played.

If anyone is due to “regress” (to borrow that fashionable buzzword often thrown at Leicester) it would have to be ManU

I'm fascinated to see how this plays out. When it comes to choosing players for FPL, almost everyone on here opts for form over class (think Hazard and his dwindling ownership), yet when it comes to ManU, everyone seems to consider their class over their (very average, as you've pointed out) form.

Related: I have no ManU players on my side and am sticking with Vahrez until given a really good reason not to.

I don't think Utd are too far away from clicking back to their best tbh. It's only their attack that needs to deliver.

Certainly nothing easy. You'd have to go Lukaku to Deeney to go Bolasie to Ozil, or Lukaku to Vardy and Kolarov to another cheapie to go Bolasie to Ozil.

And those moves would need to be done over a couple weeks - not worth taking hits.

Do you need Smalling/DDG if you have the other? Smalling is very expensive for a defender, which could be used to get Kane.
