Paddy Says – Gameweek 22

Just 48-hours after the whistle blew on Gameweek 21, we’re left staring down the barrel of another deadline. Let’s throw some last minute variables into the mix via Paddy Power’s latest betting odds.

Before we scan the reckoning for Anytime Goalscorer and Clean Sheets, we should check in on Paddy’s weekend specials.

You can get straight into the action with the early kick-off, with Paddy offering new customers odds of 4/1 of Tottenham claiming a win over Sunderland at White Hart Lane. That’s followed by another enhanced offer for this evening’s live encounter, with odds of 7/1 available on another Foxes away win, this time at the expense of Aston Villa.

Paddy’s Premier League weekend acca dangles big odds of 18/1 on wins for Chelsea (vs Everton), Man City (vs Crystal Palace) and Leicester (at Villa).

Then, on Sunday, you can get involved in the big clash at Anfield by backing either Liverpool to see of United at 8/1, or grab 11/1 on a United win over Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Be sure to check the terms and conditions on all those offers and, of course, we should state that all these specials are only available to those aged 18. If you’re going to wager, always gamble responsibly.

Despite drawing blanks in four of his last five starts, Sergio Aguero (1.53) is again the clear frontrunner in Paddy’s goal-getting odds, compounding the argument to hand him the Gameweek 22 armband. The Argentine frontman is unlikely to have it easy against a Crystal Palace rearguard that ranks top for goals conceded in away fixtures (eight) and recorded three shut-outs across the previous six Gameweeks. Given that the Sky Blues have chalked up nine goals in their most recent quartet of home clashes, Raheem Sterling (2.40) is also priced short as a midfield option, although Kevin de Bruyne is out at 3.00 for an anytime goal, which look decent odds.

Harry Kane has challenged Aguero at the top of our Captain Poll and Paddy certainly agree that he’s also a strong contender to strike in the Gameweek. Kane’s form (three goals and six blanks in eight) is underwhelming, but he’s pitched at just 1.83 ahead of a home encounter against Sunderland – which probably says more about the Black Cats’ defence than Tottenham’s attack. Although Sunderland have impressed going forward of late, their rearguard has still shipped the joint-most goals (eight) over the last four Gameweeks and is without a clean sheet since Gameweek 14, affording Kane a great opportunity to deliver. Interestingly, the fancied Dele Alli is out at 3.10 for an anytime goal in the early kick-off.

Having notched three goals and an assist in a trio of starts, Diego Costa comes in next at 2.00 prior to Chelsea’s head-to-head with Everton at Stamford Bridge. The Spain international will do well to breach a Toffees back line that have conceded a solitary goal across their last three road ties. The Blues have tallied 10 goals in five matches under Gus Hiddink, so Paddy are also playing it safe with Loic Remy’s valuation (2.20).

Olivier Giroud (2.29) has spearheaded Arsenal’s attack with aplomb this term, racking up 12 goals in just 1408 minutes. Fresh from his first brace of the campaign against Liverpool, the chiseled Frenchman takes on a Stoke City defence that’s only conceded 10 goals on home turf but have faltered in defence of late – shipping six goals in their last three league outings.

In light of his injury travails and Bournemouth’s recent acquisition of Benik Afobe, Joshua King (2.37) is a surprise entry in the top 10. That being said, the Cherries play host to a Norwich City outfit that ranks joint-bottom for clean sheets (three), so King would be a solid shout if he makes the starting XI. Afobe is perhaps more likely to start and score – Paddy have him out at 2.80 for an anytime goal today.

Graziano Pelle and Jamie Vardy are both tipped at 2.40 to notch in the Gameweek. The Saints striker will hope to earn a recall for the visit of West Bromwich Albion, while Vardy will be seeking his first goal in six outings when Leicester City travel to basement dwellers Aston Villa.

CLEAN SHEET ODDS – GAMEWEEK 22

TeamOdds
Tottenham1.90
Southampton1.90
Manchester City2.10
Bournemouth2.40
Arsenal2.40
Leiciester City2.50
Chelsea2.62
Liverpool2.62
Swansea City2.62

We’ve seen some late movement in the clean sheet reckoning overnight, with Tottenham edging out in front with odds of 1.90, although they have been joined by Southampton who have crept in from 2.10 to 1.90 in the last 24-hours. Spurs have conceded three fewer goals (17) than any team in the league, whilst the Saints will clash with a Baggies squad that ranks joint-bottom for shots on target (67) this season. Having said that, Tony Pulis’ unit have registered at least one goal in eight of their last nine league matches.

Man City odds have lengthened overnight, with Paddy shifting them out from 2.00 to 2.10 for a shutout against visitors Crystal Palace. Manuel Pellegrini’s side kept a clean sheet in midweek – their third in the last ten league outings. Despite that record, City’s chances are considerably boosted by Palace’s current form – Alan Pardew’s men have drawn four successive blanks prior to their Etihad visit.

Bournemouth are priced at 2.40 ahead of Norwich’s visit, given that the Canaries have managed just four goals in as many outings. Arsenal are on identical odds and perhaps generously valued for their trip to Stoke, considering the Potters tallied more goals (10) than any team over the last four Gameweeks. Staying within the capital, Chelsea (2.62) cross swords with an Everton unit scored just two goals in their previous trio of away match-ups.

Leicester odds have come in overnight from 2.60 to 2.50 – reflecting the Foxes stronger defensive form: Claudio Ranieri’s side will endeavour to record their fourth successive clean sheet from their trip to Villa Park.

At the bottom of our table, Paddy can’t separate Liverpool and Swansea (2.62). The Reds take on an improved Man United attack that has scored five in their last two, while the Swans invite Watford to the Liberty Stadium; the Hornets failed to net in their midweek clash against Saints and have scored just two goals in their last three.

Most of you (except Jafooli) are thinking the same as me:
      - Over 2.5 at Newcastle
      - Bournemouth win
      - Over 2.5 at Stamford Bridge
      - Win for City by 2 goals

Looks like I'm winning my bets 😀
      Thanks all!

One more thing, haven't been this torn in a long time:
    Who to sub for Alli?
Lukaku, Ighalo, Mahrez, Ozil or Payet?
I'm thinking Lukaku... risky to say the least I know.

Expanding on the Schrödinger's Aguero thought - that he is both rubbish and brilliant at the same time in at least an FPL sense, which other players occupies that superposition of being rubbish and brilliant as a FPL asset at the same time alongside aguero?

Coin toss I'm afraid. If it's wrong at least you can blame the coin.

I'm aware the odds are above, but do you reckon either of Arsenal or Liverpool will keep a clean sheet?

Liverpool certainly wont. Arsenal wont 😉

I'm hoping the team have given Cech a right going over and he keeps a CS out of guilt if nothing else.

    Currently got a team of:

    Lloris, McCarthy
Kolarov, Bellerin, Dawson, van Dijk, Wollscheid
    Ozil, Mahrez, Payet, Alli, Walcott
    Aguero, Kane, Ighalo

I've got two free transfer and 0.3 in the bank. Don't want to just lose a free transfer so considering the very unglamorous move of van Dijk to Targett to try bolster my bank a bit or is there any other pressing transfers?

I did think that but not really sure who for, plus a bit wary that Theo might bite me given his explosive nature!

I suspect I'll always just play Lloris but that may be a good shout just as a backup. Not too sure on who I'd replace Walcott with to be honest!
