FA Cup Scout Notes – Fourth Round – Sunday

Oscar hits a hat-trick and Eden Hazard breaks his goalless streak as Chelsea thrash MK Dons to set up an FA Cup Fifth Round clash with Man City. Elsewhere, Ross Barkley grabs another cup goal and Aaron Lennon weighs in with a goal and assist as Everton breeze past Carlisle.

Oscar treble eases Blues through

Chelsea put on a dominant attacking display as they ran out 5-1 victors over Milton Keynes Dons. Oscar scooped the match ball with a hat-trick, while Eden Hazard netted his first goal in 29 outings from the penalty spot and claimed an assist. Oscar piques our interest as a differential route into the Blues’ resurgent offense ahead of a trip to Watford, but Hazard remains a peripheral concern in light of his dreadful form.

After the match, Guus Hiddink boosted the Brazilian’s Fantasy potential by confirming he is the club’s number one for penalties:

“We have a hierarchy of penalty takers, with Oscar first, but they gave it to him (Hazard) and it’s good he scored. He’s coming back now after a long absence and he needs the rhythm of these games. He played more than an hour and it’s important for the upcoming multitude of games.’

Passed fit following the knee issue he sustained against Arsenal, Diego Costa earned an assist during his 57-minute stint. Willian joined the action in the 64th minute but suffered a late knock, rendering him a doubt for the Hornets encounter, according to Hiddink:

“I was worried a bit, someone stepped on his foot, but I asked him and he said it is no big worries. But we have to see in the upcoming time because we are playing a lot of games and I hope he will recover in two days.”

Meanwhile, Pedro was afforded a second-half cameo on his return from illness. On the rotation front, Kurt Zouma dropped out for Gary Cahill, and Cesar Azpilicueta was usurped by Baba Rahman.

Rounding off the key contributors to Chelsea’s triumph, Burkina Faso international Bertrand Traore etched his name onto the scoresheet. Elsewhere, Cesc Fabregas and Ruben Loftus-Cheek bagged an assist apiece.

Barkley strikes again in Toffees victory

Everton coasted through to the fifth round – booking a trip to Bournemouth – courtesy of a 3-0 win at Carlisle. The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Gerard Deulofeu were unused substitutes, but Ross Barkley was named among the starters and went on to net the Toffees’ third goal. The 7.3-priced midfielder hasn’t scored in a league since Gameweek 14 but, having notched in the midweek Capital One Cup loss to City, now boasts two goals in as many cup outings over the past week, augmenting his appeal at a time when Everton’s schedule looks promising (NEW, sto, WBA). That being said, their blank in Gameweek 27 deters investment in any of their Fantasy assets.

After Kevin Mirallas failed a late fitness test because of a knee knock, Aaron Lennon and Steven Pienaar were tasked with providing the width. The former grabbed a goal and assist, boosting his chances of more league starts. Arouna Kone – who’s fallen down the pecking order and played in just three of the Merseysiders’ previous four league ties – notched the other goal, while Leon Osman and Bryan Oviedo popped up with assists.

A lot. Gervinho and Guarin also went to China during this window. Luiz Adriano was also close to going there but that died because the club in question didn't have any proof of being able to pay such wages.

Interesting. Surely getting a slice of the transfer fee through an agent which is the same as the players is a bit dodgy?

Surely that is, nevertheless, everyday life all around football.

Agents must be get rid off, the most efficient way would be to get rid of the transfer fees and actually apply the free movement of workers in football too.

In the CL he has also been able to play his natural game which is running behind but in Serie A with Roma most teams drop back and don't leave any spaces. I think he will do well with Newcastle.

      And secret footballer adds:

"[The chairrman] knows that if the manager is given the money, he will only buy players that are brought to the club through his agent and, in the process, he will pocket a wacking great windfall through cuts of the transfer fee that he’ll split with his agent.

The chairman knows this and is digging his heels in. Everybody in football knows this.

The chairman knows that the manager will spend the money for the sake of spending it because he may not be there in the summer, anyway, and he wants as big a slice of that £30 million pie as he can get before he’s gone and a new manager comes in and the opportunity is lost.

And this is the problem that chairmen up and down the country have when they employ managers who they know to be stopgaps themselves."

But the point I copied was more general, if you read it carefully. It continues:

"Those managers go in, make hay while the sun shines, do the best they can tactically and take anything that isn’t nailed down with them when they are inevitably fired and the managerial cycle brings about the return to the club of the five-year-plan manager a year or two later."

He only brought in players with the same agent? Some clubs suffer enormously for having their DoF or manager, or both, closely connected with an agent. They not only bring only the players of that agent, but they deliberately overpay for them.

He looked totally short of any quality while playing in Serie A but on the other hand so did Ighalo so you never know.

Loan move, so no big problem for them

Yep and I think he might do well. The football in Serie A is very different compared to the Premier league and having pace isn't such an important attribute there while here players players with pace can give the opposition huge headaches.

And in many different competitions. Drops somewhat in CL, naturally, but still good there too.

0.6 NPG is awesome btw in the UCL...

It is, I agree, already wrote about this during the weekend. I just noted that his 0.91 GA90 over last few seasons in all competitions has some 10 or so penalties in it.

Anything over 0.4 GA90 is good for Newcastle and above 0.65 is awesome

Yeah I guess. You have to play Alli, damn shame to bench Mahrez though.

      Williams yeah.

I'd play Dann if I had him. I have Dawson and am playing him but only because the replacements aren't as good.

      50/50 - I'd go Dawson

That's a toughie, I'd like to play both!

If i had to pick though, i'd bench Dawson.

Big fan of Doumbia, think I might have to invest in him if he looks sharp

    On Wildcard
    Butland Henn
    Daniels Toby Bellerin Williams Targett

Does this defence need changing? Suggestions plz

Short term Toby and Bellerin not the greatest fixtures.

Dann & Ward + Cresswell are good options imo.

Target Daniels ok for now but always a risk of rotation.

How about some Chelsea cover like Zouma or Azpi?

Anyone else has 4 "blue stars" players on your bench this week? I dont think it ever happened to me. I have Butland, Mahrez, Toby and Sagna!

        Over Cresswell, Koscielny and Dawson?
When was the last time Spurs got a clean sheet?!

Bench Dawson. One does not own Toby for clean sheets alone.

    A) Toby
    B) Dawson
    C) Bellerin
    D) Daniels
    E) Simpson

Pick 3. Currently on ABC, but Daniels should be in for penalty threat?
