Injuries

Treatment Table – Gameweek 31

Mesut Ozil limps out of Arsenal’s win over Everton. Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino misses out at St Mary’s due to a hamstring problem, whilst Man City are sweating over Joe Hart’s fitness after he was forced off in yesterday’s derby loss to United.

Arsenal
Mesut Ozil (ankle) and David Ospina (back) sustained minor knocks during Arsenal’s 2-0 win at Everton, which Arsene Wenger believes will dissipate within a matter of days:

“Both are similar kicks and a few days should heal their problems. I don’t think it is a basic problem.”

Although Ozil drew his third successive blank on the weekend, Arsenal’s swashbuckling display at Goodison Park bodes well for his attacking potential ahead of a favourable schedule that includes back-to-back home ties in Gameweek 34 (CRY, WBA). That being said, a portion of his 44% ownership might be tempted to re-invest in Alexis Sanchez, given that the Chilean winger has mustered attacking returns (one goal, three assists) in four of his last five starts in all competitions.

Aston Villa
Micah Richards was absent for Aston Villa’s trip to Swansea but, according to Remi Garde, is expected to be passed fit for Chelsea’s visit next Gameweek:

“It is a groin injury. I don’t think (he will be out long) the doctor has told me it is a light injury.”

Chelsea
Belgium manager Marc Wilmots reckons that Eden Hazard faces some time on the sidelines because of a muscular complaint:

“I have told Hazard to have some rest. We are not too worried about him. He has a muscle injury. He’ll be out for three to four weeks.”

Elsewhere in the Blues camp, Kenedy – who was preferred to Pedro on the left flank in Hazard’s absence against West Ham – was substituted at the break against West Ham United after suffering a head injury.

With Diego Costa suspended for the upcoming trip to Villa, Chelsea’s attack is posing problems for Fantasy managers. Guus Hiddink’s decision to start with Loic Remy up top saw Bertrand Traore handed a second-half sub role against the Hammers last weekend, and whilst Willian offers a greater security of starts, the Brazilian has stuttered for form in recent outings and picked up points in just two of his last nine outings as the champions stumble across the finishing line.

Liverpool
Roberto Firmino has withdrawn from international duty due to a hamstring issue that will be assessed by Liverpool during the two-week break.

Considering that the Reds chalked up five more goals (13) than any team in their previous four outings and enjoy two double Gameweeks over the run-in, Firmino – who’s recorded five goals and four assists in six starts – had been pinpointed as a prime target. In the event that the former Hoffenheim star is sidelined, though, Philippe Coutinho (three goals in five starts across all competitions) has also staked a claim after netting at St Mary’s yesterday, whilst Adam Lallana has stepped up his output considerably, racking up three goals and trio of assists in six league appearances.

Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini confirmed that Joe Hart (calf) and Raheem Sterling (groin) are likely to be out of action for around a month after picking up injuries during Manchester City’s 1-0 home defeat to Manchester United:

“Both of them have muscle injuries – Raheem in his groin; Joe in his calf. I don’t think muscle injuries can heal in one week. They normally need three or four weeks.”

Although Willy Caballero (4.8) represents a cut-price punt in the absence of Hart, few Fantasy managers will have confidence in a rearguard that’s without its first-choice shot-stopper and talismanic captain. In terms of securing Sky Blues defensive coverage for their double Gameweek 34 (che, new), Nicolas Otamendi – who’s expected to return for their trip to Bournemouth after the international break – is currently the only safe selection, though it’s fair to say that the Argentine has done little to justify his 6.5 price tag of late.

Newcastle United
Rafa Benitez explained that Aleksandar Mitrovic was ushered off the pitch in the final moments of the Tyne-Wear derby after losing consciousness due to a clash of heads:

“The positive thing was he wanted to play. The good thing about the doctor is he was stopping him, just in case. I think he was right because he lost his consciousness. You have to protect the player.”

Further compounding the Magpies’ defensive issues, Daryl Janmaat left the field at the 71-minute mark with a knee problem that has since ruled him out of Holland duties over the break.

Norwich City

Robbie Brady injured his shoulder during Norwich City’s priceless 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion and now faces a scan to determine his availability for Ireland’s international friendlies. Speaking on the goalscorer, Alex Neil played down fears over the severity of Brady’s complaint:

“We’ll see what happens over the next 48 hours. He might wake up tomorrow really stiff and can’t turn his neck. In which case I don’t think he’ll be available for the games but he might wake up fine. He landed on his neck and his left eye got a bit blurred, in terms of vision, so we didn’t want to take any chances and we got him off. It was just the fact he landed on his neck. He’ll be fine, he is a hardy lad.”

Swansea City
Neil Taylor missed Swansea’s head-to-head against Villa with a dead leg but will still team up with Wales ahead of their friendlies against Northern Ireland and Ukraine. Staying within the Swans camp, Stephen Kingsley was subbed off at the 86-minute mark with a knock.

West Ham United
Sam Byram was ruled out of the Hammers’ trip to Stamford Bridge after suffering a “minor knock” in training.

Suspensions

Newcastle’s Jack Colback became the latest player to topple off the Suspension Tightrope after collecting his tenth caution of the campaign in yesterday’s Tyne-Wear derby. The versatile midfielder – who was utilised at left-back against Sunderland – will miss upcoming league encounters against Norwich and Southampton.

Elsewhere, Diego Costa and Gareth Barry both serve the second of two-match bans and will miss the upcoming clashes against Villa and United respectively.

    Critique my team

    Ddg Elliot
    Bellerin Rojo Sahko Fuchs Simpson
Sanchez Ozil Payet Mahrez Firmino/Coutinho (waiting injury news)
Aguero Sturridge Deeney (enabler and good fixtures, can bench and play 3-5-2)

0.5 iitb for transfers if injuries occur. Will ditch Fuchs in 36 for a dgw defender and possibly Aguero -> lukaku for 36

How the hell did you end up keeping Wilson?

Arsenal start their DGW on MD2 so you could do Austin -> Welbeck and start Aguero/Lukaku/Ighalo on MD1 and then transfer out whoever underperforms for Welbeck on MD2.

I'll watch the Rashford situation, but I think he could keep his place for the double. Rooney to drop deeper, but I could be wrong.

Why not Robles? He'll be bench fodder outside of the double gameweeks

Just feel Firmino has more goal threat and is more explosive. Been wanting him for ages, and now it's finally time, Coutinho pops up.

Although it would be so much easier to have only one I think both are needed.

      Liverpool have a combination of:

      - decent fixtures
      - two DGW's
      - no GW 35 blank

This in my eyes makes a trio of them essential

With their defensive displays I think only one def/gk is worth it therefore meaning two outfield players needed.

Sturridge is fantasy gold but with his injuries will likely be rested for one game even if he doesn't injure himself.

The only guaranteed starters with much attacking threat are therefore the Brazilian duo.

Any thoughts on a different combination I am overlooking?

No, I'm totally with you on a double up being a good idea. It's just that there's absolutely no room. My current midfield consists of Ozil, Payet, Eriksen, Mahrez and Antonio. Eriksen is the one to go for a Liverpool mid this week, has been the plan for ages. But after that my mid for GW34 is set. I could remove Antonio, but there's no possible way to find the money needed for a Liverpool double-up. Don't want to remove Mahrez either, and even then money would be a big issue. Ozil and Payet aren't up for discussion.

I'm looking at an attacking eight like this:

Ozil - Payet - Firmino - Mahrez (Antonio)
        Aguero - Kane - Lukaku

Those of you considering a few cheeky punts pre your gw33 wc team, I hope your paying attention to rising values of your intended wc players too.

I mean it would be a real pain if you end up 0.1 short of your deam wc team coz you were too busy punting and not accumulating your players when you had the chance.

A monday night is preferable to UEFA and Palace play their FA Cup semi final on the Sunday so that's ruled out. They could kick off at 6pm on Thursday to avoid a clash with the Europa semi finals though.

Decent but not sure about Welbeck. Also, 3 non DGWers is quite a lot. Would rather have a DGWer instead of Alli who on average seems to get an assist (5/6 points) so could potentially do better.

How many of you guys WCarding are taking into account the period from GW 32 / GW 33 (for early WCarders) right till DGW 37?

I just find if you think that far ahead you will seriously tie yourself in knots and eliminate prime picks just for long term planning. I prefer to be flexible and will WC (in GW33) for GW33 till GW 35, with only blankers being Payet and one Man Utd player.

Then wing the 2nd DGW, obviously will have some double players already and just the odd hit.

I'm starting to be turned off of all Pool assets. All of this planning to maximize team structure for DGW34 and then avoid blanks in GW35 led to the claimed need to have three Pool players, but with matches on April 7th, 10th, 14th, 16th, 20th and 23rd, is there a single player - outside of Mignolet - who you are confident will play both games in GW34 AND play in GW35? Maybe Milner because he's had a forced rest lately?

If not, then what's the value in having them instead of Mahrez or Alli or Siggy or the like?

To me, part of the the point in having 15 DGW players in GW34 is to give yourself the best chance of having 15 guys actually play twice.

That's about where I'm headed. I'm starting to like Mata just as much as Coutinho and Firmino due to ManU's lack of fixture congestion and the quality of his two fixtures in GW34. And I can still field a decent GW35 team by taking him out for the Pool attacker who I'll then know will play GW35 (based on their recent lineups) and have that person in my squad for Pool's DGW37.

Keep. Think about it: most of the dgw players you plan to bring in take 3-4 games to score the points Kane will score in one game.

Try to look at 33-38 holistically rather than one separate gwk: you will soon find that you will need the likes of Kane back in your team asap after the dgw.

I want to look for cheap defensive options, which would allows us to go heavy up top. Please write if you think a cheaper alternative is worth it as compared to the pricey one for the DGW.

    Gabriel - Bellerin
    Clichy - Otamendi
    Ogbonna - Cresswell
    Sakho/Flannagan - Clyne
Anyone from Newcastle ahead of Janmaat?
    Rojo - Smalldini

      No no no.
      Don't go near CITY
Reid is the most nailed asset in that defence and he is cheaper than Ogbonna... But Ogbonna works too I guess
      Sakho, yes.
Wouldn't consider any Newc, possibly Janmaat at a push that's it.
Can't say anything here, would prefer Smallz.

Roja could be a good alternative.

What puts me off Rojo is the early substitutions of him.

I just know that if I get him in for the DGW he'll end up getting taken off on 58 mins with Utd on a clean sheet.

If planning bench boost think it better to save by going with Rashford. Dont want cheap defenders on a boost

But he too is a rotation risk with Rooney coming back into the side. It's going to be a rotation risk anywhere. I just want to risk it with a defender rather than an attacker.

Gabriel and Clichy are good options as Gabriel is a goal threat and Clichy tends to be a BAP magnet when City keep a clean sheet (yeah, I know...).

The rest will in no way outscore the more expensive better option.

Can't really make a case for any. Maybe Sakho. I'm looking at Lingard as the enabler
