Spot the Differential – Gameweek 32

As the minutes tick away until the Gameweek 32 deadline, we roll out a trio of fit-again Fantasy options for your perusal. All three have at least one double Gameweek apiece to follow and, with Wildcards imminent, have the perfect opportunity to turn our heads.

Daniel Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge (9.9) negotiated England’s friendly against Netherlands unscathed, priming him for a starring role when Tottenham Hotspur pay a visit on Saturday. The ex-Chelsea man’s propensity for suffering niggling injuries remains a caveat, yet his consistency and capacity for explosive returns makes him an enticing gamble for managers playing catch-up in their mini-leagues. Indeed, the jet-heeled marksman bagged four goals in his previous quartet of starts, highlighting his latent potential.

On the rare occasions he’s been fit this season, Sturridge has delivered the goods, managing a goal once every 110.8 minutes – which, incidentally, places him second behind Danny Welbeck (96) among all forwards with a minimum of five starts. In addition, he charts top among Liverpool’s forward line for shot accuracy (55.6%) and shot-conversion rate (22.2%), having unleashed all but four of his 18 attempts from inside the box.

While it’s true that Spurs have conceded two or more goals just four times, their laudable defence is matched up against a Reds attack that chalked up five more goals (13) than any side across their last four matches. It’s also worth noting that the Merseysiders arguably have the psychological edge in this encounter, owing to the fact they put a total of 10 goals past the Lilywhites in the same fixture across the last three seasons.

Kevin De Bruyne

Having completed his rehabilitation from ankle ligament damage, Kevin De Bruyne (10.2) shoots back onto our radar. Although Manuel Pellegrini has admitted the Belgian “maybe won’t play 90 minutes”,
injuries to Yaya Toure and Raheem Sterling heighten the possibility that he could still be afforded significant pitch time at the Vitality Stadium. As City prepare for a double Gameweek 34, De Bruyne’s dual threat (five goals, nine assists) renders him a tantalising differential as we look to wield our Wildcards.

From a statistical standpoint, the former Chelsea man has excelled in his maiden campaign at the Etihad. On the shooting front, his shot accuracy (48.5%) ranks top among the Sky Blues’ regular starters, while his shot-conversion rate (15.2%) is second only to Sergio Aguero (16.8%) when including team-mates who’ve tallied at least 15 attempts. As for his creative influence among all midfielders, the Belgian international charts second to Mesut Ozil for key-pass frequency (one every 21.8 minutes to 24.3 minutes).

Despite turning out some impressive performances across the last four Gameweeks (three wins, one defeat), Bournemouth remain defensively suspect on their own patch, having shipped 10 goals in their previous six home clashes, offering hope that Man City can snap their barren road streak. Moreover, only Aston Villa surrendered more big chances (14) than the Cherries (seven) across the last four Gameweeks, which bolsters De Bruyne’s capacity to deliver an impactful cameo and play his way into our plans.

Danny Welbeck

With three goals and one assist in five appearances (three starts) since vacating the treatment room, Danny Welbeck (7.3) is firmly ahead of Olivier Giroud in the pecking order at Arsenal. Spearheading an attack that’s rejuvenated in the wake of a convincing 2-0 win over Everton, the Manchester United academy product – who sits at just 1% ownership – is well placed to capitalise on the good form that Mesut Ozil (one goal and assist) and Alexis Sanchez (two assists) displayed during the international break.

Delving into the figures, Welbeck looks poised for continued returns: among forwards that have notched at least six attempts since Gameweek 26, Welbeck places second – behind Daniel Sturridge – for shot accuracy (67% compared to 83%). Meanwhile, his shot-conversion rate (33%) – which admittedly derives from a limited pool of data – places third among forwards with at least six shots this campaign.

Next on the agenda for the Gunners is a home tie against Watford, who have recorded just two clean sheets since Gameweek 18. Furthermore, only three teams lay claim to fewer shut-outs on their travels than the Hornets (two), underlining their recent fragility away from Vicarage Road.

      Ozil. Not tough at all.

Ozil 6.2ppg at home compared with Sanchez 4.7ppg.

Not to mention the cheaper price.

WC team for GW 32 and plan for weeks 33-35.

Planning on taking point hits but hoping will be worthwhile. Should I make any change to WC team and forget Chelsea players punt for AV today and bring in Barkley and Smalling now?

    Adrian
    Bellerin Ivanovic Koscielny
    Ozil Fab Mahrez Payet (vc)
    Kane Aguero (c) Lukaku

    Bench-Robles Ali Huth Clyne

Week 33 Fab to Barkley and TC Lukaku
Week 34. Ivan to Smalling and Kane to Martial (-4)- BB with 12 players
Week 35 Smalling to Azpilecueta or Cresswell and Martial back to Kane (-4) and have 10 players. Non playing GK but better than another hit

Can you not wait a week?

There has been a two week break and there are so many question marks hanging over various teams and players right now that many of us are using this weekend to monitor.

Thanks. There are 2 reasons. Firstly in present team GK's are Butland and Hart so needed to make change and then secondly thought would allow me to TC Luk next week if did WC now. Looked better than in GW 37

Okay you have thought it out but there are good TC options in 37 too.

I'd be playing your WC next week if you can so you have a better idea after this weekend to assess fitness etc.

    Migs/Darlow

    Bellerin/Gabriel/Rojo/Sakho/ward

    Sanchez/Coutinho/Payet/Barkley/Bolassie

    Aguero/Lukaku/Mitrovic

0.6 itb downgrading Payet to one of the other West Ham mids gives greater flexibility for transferring out palace week 34. Any suggestions? (Ryan???)

    Shmeichel (Fabianski)
    Daniels, VVD, Aldeweireld, Fuchs, Pieters
    Ozil, Mahrez, Siggy, Firmino,Hoolahan
    Kun, Kane, Defoe

I want to bring in Payet, but for whom. Do i sell Firmino or keep him for DGW. And I want to sell Pieters, but for whom.

I would bring in Payet. Trade out Payet for Firminio in gw35 when Payet blanks. I think Firminio returns may be low due to his hammy issue plus return of Sturridge/Coutinho.

      Payet.

      At home to crappy Palace.
Palace defensive stats are just as bad as Villa's.
      On set plays.
      Bap mag.
      Attacking threat.
      On form.
      The stats back him up.
Several ways to earn points-assists, cs, etc.

Always trust your 'automatic' choice. Whenever I tried to reason and overthink it, I swapped the captaincy from Kane to Kun and vice versa. That happened 3 times, and VC always got more points.

      No more.

      Welbeck. On form.

At home against a Watford team that are not playing anywhere near as well as previously.

Less pressure game for Arsenal as many believe they are out of title race so should play with freedom.

Slight concern of minutes but hoping he bags a brace before being hauled off.

Aguero! Bournemouth suspect at home plus KDB will be back! Payet and West Ham seem to struggle at Home and Palace will play for an 0-0 where Bournemouth only play one way and that's to win plus they have nothing to play for so will play with Freedom

Same dilemma here! I'm leaning towards Lukaku on the bench. Man utd are strong at home defensively. Stoke have no Butland so hoping Siggy will do well. Alli strong away form. Am I overthinking? What are your thoughts?

It's one of those where I don't want to bench any of them. The only thing that's stopping me benching Luk is that I don't really need to gamble at this stage (ownership/OR). Benched Siggy points less damaging to me.

The only problem is that I can't afford Sturridge+Bellerin and the only budget striker I like at the moment is Welbeck.

Gabriel could be worth a punt but you're already doing that with Sturridge (though it could pay off big).

That's issue I'm having atm having wildcarded, need nailed on players but can envisage come gw34 there will be some players viewed as essential who aren't currently.

Not at all. I'm thinking of 3 ARS myself but no idea as yet.

Thinking Cech, Ozil and then Bellerin or Welbeck. Welbeck will be for Aguero and allows me a much better WC team suitable for the BB chip.

Guys, City defender - too risky for the DGW and blanks after?

Clichy, Mangala and Sagna are the options I Guess?

Mangala should be safe as long as Kompany is injured. Sagna will be rotated , Clichy less than Sagna but still a risk

Clichy tempts me . Reasonable price and kolarov appears to have vanished.

        Not Mangala?

I'm really worried about full back rotation.

Unless I get one of these guys I'm gonna end up with Sakho and Clyne on WC team.

Im not fussed on that 😥

I don't think Mangala is risky if Kompany is out. Clichy should be benched in favour of Kolarov imo, but who knows what Pellegrini will do.

Kompany is still a massive risk for Mangala owners, particularly if they want 11 in GW35. Its too far away to be overly positive

Wouldn't touch City defence without Kompany and if he's fit, I'd want Kompany.

Re Alli v Siggy for the bench. Members can Comparison tool them over the last four matches and there's your answer.

Thanks to jkisthe1 via Twitter for pointing that out to me.

Comparison Tool will always favour the more creative player . Also playing for Swansea , Siggy's goal involvement will be always more than Alli. Just my thoughts 🙂

I shall take a look now. As this is my other conundrum

To me it's more about rank safety v differential

Alli's ownership is a smoke screen though as so many will bench him. Seen loads of top 10kers playing Siggy over him.

A suggestion for you guys on the Members area
Perhaps you should also include last 4 and last 6 Home/Away Matches in the Range for selection? What do you think?

Haven't seen a Man City presser this week. Any chance the CL game this week is going to effect Pellegrini's selection or game time issues for the Bournemouth game?

    Fairly setled my WC33 & BB34. 🙂

    Mignolet/Robles
    Bellerin-Kos-Smalling-Rojo-Sakho
    Özil-Payet-Antonio-Mahrez-Bolasie
    Kun-Lukaku-Kane

    GW34 Bolasie -> Firmino
    GW35 Smalling -> PVA/Klose & Antonio -> ? -4

I can go without a hit GW35 if I keeep Firmino next week when I use my WC.
But I'm thinking Bolasie can get least 4 points more than Firmino GW33.

This might be a crazy plan, but it's different and I like it.

    Take a -4

Eriksen, Arnie, Siggy -------> Sanchez, Payet, Lingard
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    -
GW 32 Starters: Kosc Ivan Simpson Sanchez Payet Ozil Mahrez Kane Kun Vardy

    GW33: Kane --> Lukaku

    GW34: Targett --> Sakho & Sanchez (TC)

    GW: 35: Payet --> Firmino/Coutinho

    GW36: WC

37: BB 12-14 players with DDW

    38: AOA
