Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – Defensive Worries Ease for Hammers

Sam Byram and James Collins are expected to return for West Ham’s clash with Arsenal. Erik Lamela could be back for Tottenham’s showdown with United. Phil Jones and Ashley Young step up their fitness with a run-out for the Red Devils’ reserves, whilst Fabricio Coloccini could be back in the frame for Newcastle this weekend.

Hammers defenders on the mend

Slaven Bilic confirmed that James Collins and Sam Byram will be in contention for West Ham United’s home encounter against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Scout Says: With Byram back in contention and the fit-again James Tomkins afforded a bench role last week, owners of Michail Antonio will be optimistic he can now revert to a midfield berth. The ex-Nottingham Forest wide man has deputised at right-back or right wing-back in recent weeks and, having drawn successive blanks, has fallen behind Manuel Lanzini – who has netted in each of the last two – as our preferred budget Hammers midfielder. Priced at 5.5 to Lanzini’s 4.9, Antonio is owned by just 4% of FPL managers and with double Gameweeks 34 and 37 to consider, could return to our radars once again.

Lamela hopeful of weekend return

Tottenham Hotspur are optimistic that Erik Lamela will shake off a calf complaint in time for their home tie against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Scout Says: With just three goals and five assists, Lamela has been a peripheral figure on the Fantasy scene. In terms of Spurs’ midfield assets, Dele Alli edges out Christian Eriksen by way of his attractive pricing (6.2 compared to 8.6) and recent form (four assists in as many starts). Nonetheless, the Danish playmaker is also in the midst of a purple patch: aside from bagging one goal and assist in his last two outings, he ranked second among all midfielders for attempts (14) and shots on target (five) across his previous quartet of matches. Considering that the Lilywhites don’t enjoy a double Gameweek 34, though, Alli’s 32% ownership will be tempted to cash in – indeed, over 27,000 have already parted company since the weekend. Up front, Harry Kane is another matter altogether, however. Considering the forward has served up six goals, an assist and eight bonus points over his last four, it’s easy to see why many owners are having second thoughts over cashing in on Kane as we reassemble our Wildcard teams.

Defensive duo back for United

Ashley Young and Phil Jones were both handed run-outs for Manchester United’s U21 outfit for their clash against Chelsea last night, but Wayne Rooney was not passed fit to play:

The Scout Says: With Young and Jones now in the mix ahead of United’s double, the likes of Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind may well carry a greater rotation risk. The Argentinian left-back has chalked up five consecutive starts but was replaced at the break against Everton due to jet lag and lasted the distance just once in the other four ties. On a similar note, Antonio Valencia clocked pitch time in the Red Devils’ previous two match-ups, bolstering his case for starts ahead of Matteo Darmian during a congested schedule. Ultimately, Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the only sure-fire routes into a defence that charts bottom for home goals conceded (seven) this term.

Rafa hopeful on Coloccini fitness

According to Rafa Benitez, Fabricio Coloccini will return to training this week ahead of Newcastle United’s trip to Southampton on Saturday:

“So he (Coloccini) will be training (this week) and we’ll see how he feels and then we’ll decide but the good thing is that if they are coming back then at least we have that competition and that can only be good for the team.”

The Scout Says: The Magpies recorded a solitary clean sheet in their last 16 outings, giving us little reason to invest in their defence before back-to-back home clashes (SWA & MCI) in Gameweek 34. In saying that, injuries to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot are set to afford Karl Darlow – at just 3.9 – a run of starts as Benitez attempts to stave off the threat of relegation. It’s further up the field where our main interests lie, though. Although he’s not scored for nine starts, Georginio Wijnaldum’s home bias (all nine goals at St James’ Park) renders him a left-field differential, while Aleksandar Mitrovic is the form man in the Tynesiders’ attack. Delving further into the Serbian marksman’s potential, he ranked fourth for attempts (15), third for shots inside the box (14) and joint-fourth for shots on target (six) among all forwards in their last four matches. Having started off the bench last weekend, his brace at Norwich surely puts Mitrovic in pole position to lead the line once again.

do WC sales not count towards price changes the same as WC buys?

Nope, that's why the cool kids don't hit the WC button yet! The really cool ones then forget to press it for a nice -64 😎

Ah, but the super-cool ones know they have enough to buy the players they want, so hit the wildcard button early to make it more difficult for the rest 😉

My concern with doing that is I don't want my rivals to spot that I've made 16 transfers.

As far as I can tell at the moment, my nearest rival (who still has his WC) has a made just one change this week, and I don't want him to realise I have a WC in play this week.

With DGW 34 in mind which to go for

    A Mata
    B Firmino/Coutinho or
    C Barclay

Will have Martial and Smalling for Man Utd, Lukaku and Robles for Everton and Clyne for Liverpool. Tempted Mata due to fixtures but Barclay gets 2 double game weeks.............

Good question. The set pieces article here on FFS list:
Arteta, Cazorla, Giroud, Walcott, Ramsey, none of which are starting matches atm.

Yes ages since Arsenal have won a penalty. Think they are due to get a couple in the next few game weeks. Wondering if any Gunners fans has any insight on who will take one.

    Smth for the community:

We have established (even if not stated as this) that it is advisable to play a WC that involves 7players that don't play in GW35 as we have 3 transfers up till then to remove 3 which leaves 4 on the bench and a starting 11.

Less than 7 of these blankers isn't sensible because these are the players that have (the most or best) DGWs beforehand and you can't have only Arsenal, City or Liverpool players too.

Relevant for these 7 places are therefor EVERTON; CRYSTAL PALACE; WEST HAM and MAN UTD. players:

    The following are to consider:

Everton: 1) Robles is in everyones team, he's an enabler and the best cheap GK

    2) Lukaku is everyones captain. His 4 fixtures in two weeks is all you need to know.

    3) Coleman offers so much potential. If they get their act together, they could get 2Cs over 4 games (they could tighten up for the away games), he could be the best defender on a WC with his goal and assist potential, which is huge.

    4) Jagielka is mid-cheap defender, who I advise against as his attacking potential is limited

    5) Barkley. I wouldn't. Attacking rotation is around the corner as Everton have nothing to go for in the league. But if you must, go Barkley not Lennon who doenst have a lot of efforts too.

C.Palace: 6) Delaney or Ward are cheap 4games in two weeks and you don't even lose a game.

    7) Bolasie is the one man you trust to deliver in 2 easy homegames. As you will lose your attacking Palace player in place of another DGW33player don't go cheaper. Also Zaha only played 45mins last time around. Strikers are too risky atm.

ManU: 8) De Gea or Smalling are expensive but with even Jones coming back the only save choices in a solid defense.

    9) Lingard: The enabler. Cheap as dirt and likely to play 120+ in a nice looking DGW

    10) Martial. Nice choice. I'd like to have him myself but feel there's no room, because of:

West Ham: 11) Payet. He, who can't be missing in any team at a nice looking DGW atm.

    12) Lanzini. Great form. CHeap. Again, there is the room problem... Don't go attack or defense simply because there aren't cheap options that are better than DElaney (4 instead of 3games in two weeks) fe.

So-- 12 players from 4teams and 7 places.

I for one believe in Bolasies two homegames this week. I like Colemans 4 games better than Smallings 3. Smalling isn't such a danger anymore and Coleman can be explosive. Delaney is simply so much cheaper than Smalling and has one more game and that nicks it for me. Payet, Lukaku and Robles are clear to me too. So I'm left with 1place after having aquired 5DGW32 players and Payet.

Lanzini, Martial and Lingard will have to fight that out and because of my low TV, I'll probably end up with Lingard although I'd like to have Martial. Mitrovic is a better choice than Iwobi or Milner and no BellerinGabrielOzilSanchez or FirminoCoutinhoMignoletSakho tho.
    How about you?

      6) Palace don't play GW35, and what are you basing this love of Bolasie on?

        • 11 Years
        8 years, 2 months ago

They have two DGWs coming up.
GW35 is a blank for all of these options.
That's excatly why I made this list.
You can only have 7 of them.

      I like smalling's 3 better than coleman's 4

Coleman used to be explosive but no longer. United have conceded very few goals

      I prefer Iwobi to Lanzini

Iwobi is nice but then you will have to cut lose one of Gabriel, Bellerin, Sanchez/Ozil...

I wont do that and I wont go Lanzini either. Lingard

      nice write up
though it shows exactly what DGW can do in that you have justified having everton defenders over man utd and having man utd attackers. When in normal weeks you would likely go opposite.

Remeber McShane tho! 12pts in a DGW last year with ugly fixtures too.

3 Arsenal and probably 2/3 Liverpool is advisable, so this cuts down your 7

No, everyone will have 3Ars and 2/3Pool (me too), even two MCIs but that still leaves7 players.

You can go Smalling Martial Lingard Payet and only 3DGW34 players too but the basic information is that going with excactly 7of these 4teams is the right way to go. No more defenitely.

Have not seen 1 person mention Wijnaldum in their WC. Should be a great option comparing to all uncertain for rotation? Currently looking at a midfield of Ozil Sanchez Cout Payet Wijnaldum

Other option I've looked at is Fitting in KDB and lennon for Sanchez and wijn, but seeing that first two is highly doubtful to get full amount of minutes second option feels quite good?

    Yay or nay?

I was looking at wijnaldum but he isn't scoring any more. Lots of other good mid to lowprice mid options (Coutinho, Payet, Mahrez, Firmino, Lanzini, Lingard, Iwobi) makes him unattractive.

Newcastle fighting for their lives may very well change the scoring part. Can't compare to Lingard, Iwobi and Lanzini who either blank 35 or are uncertain for minutes imo...

Happy to lose Mahrez for sure, don't see enough attacking returns to worry me. Kane the only one I was too scared to cut loose.

I never had a DEF, only Schmeics, who i could transfer back in at some point.

when does di5able (is it a 5 instead of an S) do his sky article, its too much for my small brain to work out what to do.
now if it was chasing a tennis ball, got that sorted.
man throws ball, I check it actually left hand, follow ball, hunt down yellow b*gger, grab in mouth, run in completely opposite direction to man, catch smell of badger, drop ball, sniff for five minutes ignoring shouts, return to man without ball, wait for man to throw ball again.

    Hi all,

    Re post from earlier

Up to a 4225 OR and hoping to keep it that way. With the DGW fast approaching starting to stress a bit!

I'm currently on my WC and have the following team currently:

    GW33
    Robles
    Morgan Bellerin Simpson
    Debryne Mahrez Sanchez Couthino Payet
    Aguero Lukaku (C)

    Bench: Mignolet Mitrovic Darmian Gabriel

    GW34
    Mignolet
    Bellerin Darmian Gabriel
    Debryne Sanchez (C) Coutinho Payet
    Mitrovic Aguero Lukaku

    Bench: Robles Mahrez Simpson Morgan

    GW35

    Bellerin Simpson Morgan Gabriel
    Debryne Sanchez Couthino Mahrez
    Aguero Mitrovic

    Bench: Robles Payet Darmian Lukaku

How am I looking? Any tips?

I'll have 2 FTs to makes transfers for GW 35 and onwards. Bit worried about the GW 35 team..
