Scout Scribbles – De Bruyne Nets in City Stalemate

Kevin de Bruyne is amongst the goals again as Man City share the spoils with PSG. Roberto Firmino returns to training ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Dortmund, Andre Ayew could be back for Swansea this weekend, whilst Stoke are handed mixed injury news prior to Sunday’s trip to Anfield.

City salvage point in Paris

Manchester City secured a precious 2-2 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League quarter-final, affording them a slight advantage heading into the second leg. Manuel Pellegrini fielded a full-strength XI, deploying Kevin De Bruyne in “the hole” behind Sergio Aguero once again. The former Wolfsburg starlet opened the scoring, while Fernandinho bagged a goal and assist. Joe Hart also delivered the goods on his return from injury, saving Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s penalty in the 14th minute.

The Scout Says: With two goals in as many starts since vacating the treatment room, De Bruyne has reaffirmed his status as the Sky Blues’ premier midfield pick ahead of a favourable quartet of ties (WBA, che &new, STO) over the next three Gameweeks. Encouragingly, De Bruyne was afforded 77 minutes last night – as opposed to 56 minutes against Bournemouth on Saturday – which highlights that Pellegrini is quickly allowing him the chance to build up his match sharpness ahead of City’s double. Given that Nicolas Otamendi (6.5) appears to be the only safe starter in the Sky Blues’ back line, the fit-again Hart (5.6) serves as their value source of defensive coverage for a stretch brimming with clean-sheet potential.

Firmino returns to training for Reds

Roberto Firmino played a full part in Liverpool training last night ahead of their Europa League clash against Borussia Dortmund this evening.

The Scout Says: In the event that Firmino is afforded a decent run-out at the Westfalenstadion, some Gameweek 33 wildcarders might be tempted to re-assess their Liverpool attacking coverage. Owing to Firmino’s hamstring issue, Philippe Coutinho (two goals in two) emerged as the prime route into the Reds’ squad – indeed, he currently ranks third among all players for “transfers in” (60,000) this Gameweek. However, the former boasts a superior key-pass frequency (one every 41 minutes to 49 minute) shot accuracy (40% compared to 28%) and shot-conversion rate (17% to 8%) than his Brazilian teammate, illustrating his greater efficiency in the final third. Ultimately, both men represent strong selections in light of Liverpool’s double Gameweeks 34 (bou &EVE) and 37 (WAT & CHE) and absence of a blank, which hands them a plum home clash with Newcastle in Gameweek 35.

Ayew close to Swans comeback

Having returned to full training following an ankle injury, Andre Ayew looks in line to be fit for Chelsea’s visit on Saturday.

The Scout Says: Although he’s expected to immediately return to Francesco Guidolin’s starting XI, Ayew will struggle to claim any level of Fantasy interest over the run-in. The Swans’ brutal run-in (CHE, new, lei, LIV, whu, MCI) and lack of a double Gameweek encourages us to disregard their Fantasy prospects and turn to those with doubles instead. That being said, Gylfi Sigurdsson’s 9% ownership might feel inclined to retain the form midfielder (eight goals in 13) until Swansea face off against Newcastle’s obliging defence in Gameweek 34.

Mixed news for Potters

Stoke City assistant manager Mark Bowen confirmed that Ryan Shawcross and Xherdan Shaqiri could be passed fit for their trip to Liverpool on Sunday:

“From Ryan’s point of view going into the weekend … we are now on Wednesday, the players have a day’s rest tomorrow and we’ll see how he is on Friday with one eye to the game at Liverpool. Shaq has trained again this week so we’re delighted with that. He seems to have come through ok and I definitely think with him, if he gets no reaction, he’ll be in the frame to start against Liverpool.”

Bowen also revealed that Geoff Cameron sat out training due to illness and Glenn Whelan is struggling with back spasms:

“Glenn hasn’t trained for the last two days. He came out of the game on Saturday and came in on Monday full in spasm with his back. I’m not a physiotherapist but I think at this stage, it’s one of those, it could settle down very quickly but if it carries on the way it is he is a major doubt for the weekend.”

The Scout Says: In appreciation of the Potters’ tough upcoming trio of match-ups (liv, TOT, mci) and lack of a double Gameweek, their Fantasy assets have disappeared off our radar. Nonetheless, Shawcross’ return to action could tighten up a defence that managed just one clean sheet in the eight fixtures he’s missed this year. On that topic, Stoke have surrendered just five goals in the seven home fixtures that their captain has started, which is food for thought for Harry Kane and Dele Alli before Spurs’ trip to the Britannia Stadium in Gameweek 34.

    A) Kane, 8.7 ITB ( really don't know who to play, have Ozil, Coutinho, Payet and Lingard )

    B) KdB, Martial/Pelle

I'm 2nd in my H2H league 6 points behind the leader and 3 points ahead of 3rd. I'm playing 3rd this week and top is playing bottom. I want to put Lukaku in my team for the coming weeks as no one has him in as of yet. I have a couple of things I could do to get him in but I'm unsure... any advise to help me would be great

    A) Kane for Lukaku
    B) Vardy, Ozil & Sagna for Lukaku, KDB & Taggett (-8 Points)
    C) Kane & Ozil for Lukaku & Sanchez (-4 Points)
    D) Leave my team

    Current Team:

    Cech - Hennessey
    Bellerin - Fuchs - Dier - Sagna - Wollscheid
    Payet - Alli - Ozil - Lingard - Mahrez
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

What do you guys think is more important - wildcarding this week to enable BB in GWK 34 when there are reasonable options available and then using TC in GWK 37 or picking your preferred TC (who would be Sanchez in GWK 34) and using BB in GWK 37?

Problem is I would perhaps have to use my WC this week to get Sanchez as funds are quite tight - would otherwise probably need to take a 4 point hit this week and then 8 next week.

Depends on the rest of your team, how many DGW'ers you want / can get. Personally I hit the WC button and am trying to get Sanchez in for Ozil who I have had since GW1 - losing a lot of cash on him. TC is good for GW 34, but with better doubles fixtures I think BB could work better 34.

For those without a wildcard... Obviously like me you will be gutted you pulled the trigger earlier on even if it did seem necessary at the time. However I'm curious as to what your plans are for the dgw's as far as what type of team you intend to field. I myself have toyed with taking massive hits to get dgw players in as I still have my BB. But as we close in on the first major week (gw34) I think I will just end up settling with half a team of the dgw players I have slowly been getting in and half a team of strong SGW players I see little point in outing for a -4 a piece. Obviously bench boost will not be as effective, but gw35 is a total breeze for a starting 11. Thoughts?

I prefer A. 10 isn't terrible, if you're only cramming in an 11th for the sake of it (a lot of those 11th players shuttled in simply for that GW will likely score 1-2 points).

    RMT

    De Gea, Robles
    Rojo, Sakho, Bellerin, Gabriel, Huth
    Sanchez, Mahrez, Coutinho, Payet, Lanzini
    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

0.0 ITB, currently WCed, and I have a BB for GW 34 and TC for GW 37.

I hope to transfer out Robles in GW 35 for another keeper (Darlow). I also want to transfer out Payet for Firmino for GW 35. Then I will transfer back out Mahrez for Payet for GW 37. With my last FT before GW 37, I was considering transferring Kane or Aguero out for Martial.

    Any advice/opinions?

It looks like Kompany is back after GW35, at which point Mangala becomes Azpi anyway. Janmaat a flair pick for Newcastle since I've got the extra 0.2 or so. They've also got a game in 35 which helps. De Bruyne to counter the lack of Kun, hoping that's enough.

Thinking to include bolasie for dgw33, then removing for coutinho dgw34 in a move that will cost me a hit further down the line..

Is it worth it, or do I forget bolasie and go with coutinho from gw33 stoke at home?

    Thanks

If that's the plan, just get Cout now and forget Bolasie.

I'm getting both and playing both in 33 and 34.

I've taken Bolasie out and am just playing Dann. Just can't see any attacking returns from Palace.

Not IMO Coutinho could do well at home to Stoke

I'm getting rid of Kane and probably not getting him back for the rest of the season, so it comes down to...

    A) Bellerin, De Bruyne & Rashford (will have one of Firmino or Coutinho)

    or

    B) Janmaat, Firmino and Coutinho double up & Martial

    Aguero Lukaku Martial

Even with 2 fts, you'll still only be able to field 9 players in GW35.

Folks, what can i do in order to improve this defence or is it okay?
    On WC.. 0.2ITB

    Robles / Darlow
    Sakho / Gabriel / Jags / Delaney / 4.7
    Sanchez / KDB / Coutinho / Payet / Lingard
    Aguero / Lukaku / Martial

Just put 4.9 for the defender then! If it needs to be a DGW player then I'd go for Lovren/Moreno. If not then get Huth/Morgan/Simpson.

      None!

Ok, Cabrera usually does alright at the Masters, Bradley and Mahan are well out of form but have been top 10 players in recent years, and I'd maybe take a punt on DeChambeau he looks half decent.

I'd go Keegan Bradley, and I think Streelman did well at the Masters last year. Westwood has loads of Masters experience and a heap of top 10 finishes, so maybe him (not sure about his form though). It's slim pickings really.

      A motley crew!

      I'd go with:

Merritt (3rd recently at Bay Hill)

Taylor (Augusta local who won at Pebble Beach recently, but has had 4 MCs in a row since)

      Mahan (9th last year)

Love (has made the cut in his last 9 events)

Arsenal fixtures look so good I am considering a triple Arsenal defence of Bellerin, Gabriel and Monreal - differential? too punty? genius? ... or sheer madness ?

Is see clean sheets galore, and most other defenders look so shaky and probe to rotation - Everton, Liverpool, Palace, City ?

I went for the big ticket midfielders at the beginning of the season and got stung when all were filling their boots with Mahrez, Payet etc

    Team A or B:

    A)
    Mig [DDG]
Bellerin Lovren [GABRIEL - MANGALA - DELANEY]
    Sanchez Payet Coutinho KDB [LANZINI]
    Lukaku Martial Kun

    B)
    Mig [ROBLES]
Bellerin Lovren [SMALLING - JAGS - SIMPSON]
    Sanchez Payet Coutinho KDB [IWOBI]
    Lukaku Martial Kun

Both leave 9 for gw35 with 2 FTs
B has a lot more Everton cover

    Thoughts please?

My final piece of the jigsaw is whether I downgrade Sturridge > Martial, then upgrade my defence. Sturridge could prove to be a great differential though in my race for a top 100 OR finish. Thoughts?

    Robles | Darlow
    Bellerin | Gabriel | Moreno | Simpson | Rojo
    Sanchez | KDB | Payet | Coutinho | Lanzini
    Sturridge | Aguero | Lukaku

I read many posts about potential WC teams

I came up with this this afternoon :

    DDG/Robbles
    Bellerin/delaney/gabriel/huth/Clyne
    Firmino/Lanzini/Payet/Marhez/sanchez
    Aguero/Kane/Lukkaku

I still have 0.8 to spend. I had Darlow as second keeper, but I feel like even without a keeper for GW35 Robles will better as I can play him this gameweek instead of DDG. Other obvious downsides are delaney and Gabriel, but I can't find any better combination.

What do you think about it?

I agree that Darlow in 35 is almost worthless so better to think big picture
