The Weekly Shop – Gameweek 37

We bring the curtain down on Wednesday with a visit to the Weekly Shop, as we analyse the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As always, we divide the player analysis into two parts: I’ll assess the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better Buys

Manchester United travel to a Norwich side that have failed to net in three straight matches. David De Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $4,200) has five clean sheets in eight outings and should do well at Carrow Road, though a trip to West Ham on Tuesday poses more of a problem – given that the Hammers have scored at least twice in their last seven, the Spaniard’s shot-stopping abilities will be called into action, meaning save points are likely to be on the cards.

Slaven Bilic’s side may be scoring for fun but a shut-out at the Hawthorns was their first in seven attempts. Visitors Swansea have blanked in back-to-back matches on the road and provide the Hammers a chance to record a twelfth clean sheet of the campaign, while United have scored only once in their last three away trips. Aaron Cresswell (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $4,100) is our pick from Slaven Bilic’s defence, with the raiding left-back producing a goal and assist over his last four appearances.

It’s been a remarkably underwhelming season for Eden Hazard (FantasyBet 10.5m, Draftkings $5,500), who has finally shown glimpses of last year’s form by netting three goals in his last two run-outs. The Belgian’s six goal attempts over those last two ties is more than the midfielder recorded over his previous 12 league appearances, suggesting a recent stint on the sidelines appears to have revitalised him ahead of trips to Sunderland and Liverpool.

We turn to West Ham once again, with their pair of home ties and prolific scoring record making Dimitri Payet (FantasyBet 7.5m, Draftkings $8,400) and Andy Carroll (FantasyBet 6m, Draftkings $5,200) prime candidates for our squads. Payet continues to be the main source of creativity for the Hammers, recording an eleventh assist of the term in the 3-0 win at West Brom, while Carroll also turned provider against the Baggies and has struck six goals in as many league outings.

Jurgen Klopp has preferred to utilise Daniel Sturridge (FantasyBet 10m) in the league while resting the striker in Europe. Thursday night should reveal more about the German manager’s plans but having started six of the last seven league matches, the Reds frontman could be worth investment, having netted five goals over that period.

Poundstretchers

Sunderland have been building a case for survival having lost only one match in eight, whilst three clean sheets in five highlights their late-season resilience. Victor Mannone (FantasyBet 4m, Draftkings $3,500) has made 19 saves over four matches and should be busy again with Chelsea and Everton both visiting the Stadium of Light over the next week.

Bournemouth may only have one match this Gameweek but a home tie against a West Brom side that have scored only twice in seven looks promising in the last home fixture of their debut top-flight season. Charlie Daniels (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $3,900) remains our choice route into Eddie Howe’s rearguard, whilst further up the field, Matt Ritchie (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $6,400) and Josh King (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings Forward $4,400) look to be the Cherries attacking assets to select.

Andros Townsend (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $6,600) continued his fine recent form by netting Newcastle’s crucial winner against Crystal Palace last time out. It’s three goals and two assists in six matches now for the winger and a trip to Aston Villa affords Rafa Benitez’ side to strengthen their case for survival.

Another former Tottenham player is our pick of the budget forwards. A fourteenth goal of the season at Stoke re-affirms Jermain Defoe’s (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $5,300) credentials for the two upcoming home ties. The Black Cats frontman has scored the majority of his goals away from the Stadium of Light but, having had 13 attempts in the box over the last four (second only to Carroll) he will be Sunderland’s main threat for must-win matches with Chelsea and Everton.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups. On Friday, I’ll also bring you up to date on my progress in FantasyBet, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

    Weekend (GW37) Fixtures (in order)
    -----

    Norwich City vs Manchester United* (60)
    West Ham United* (59) vs Swansea City
    Tottenham Hotspur (70) vs Southampton
    Manchester City (64) vs Arsenal (67)
    West Ham* (59/60/62) vs Man Utd (60/61/63)*

    *extra game this weekend.

    Spurs have almost confirmed 2nd spot.

    4 teams (Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd & West Ham) fighting for final 2 UEFA CL spots.

    A must win game for Man City and I think it's worth holding on to Aguero, KDB.. Pellegrini cannot bench them.

      To be fair Real couldn't even score against City themselves. Had to rely on an own goal.

      I think what's sad is how much money both teams spent to get there and how boring it was.

    Arsenal haven't looked too convincing lately and are secure in the top four.
    Spurs lost the race and will be missing Alli (and most likely Dembele) but Kane will be wanting golden boot.

      It depends on what you think about ManCity's psychology

      Will they be plucky, ticked off to be knocked out of CL, and ready to show their dominance to finish top 4 with Pep inbound?

      Will they be cowed by their recent loss, lack motivation with Pellegrini heading out the door, and feel a bit meh in their last home game of the season?

      Yeah... probably Kane.

        My biggest gripe! If he's guaranteed to start both games, Lingard will be a great differential - in terms of my ML. Chasing a 30pt deficit...leader does not own Lingard.

        Not really ... both should still be hungry for it. I think Aguero will have a better chance of scoring goals in the meanwhile and I'm keeping him and shipping Kane - i think with Dembele and Alli out he'll slow down!

        No it doesn't. Kun just played 90 and Kane's ratio is askew due to starting the season very slowly

          Aguero's first 481 minutes only brought him 1 goal. His first 7 weeks were very similar to Kane's.

      Interesting stats, TE.

      Do you have the numbers for Sturridge as well? And Carroll? Especially the minutes per goal. Seeing that they are two of the most interesting prospects for the last two GWs. Would be much appreciated.

      Shipping Kane myself tomorrow.

    A) Ozil > Fabregas
    B) Ozil > Hazard / Rose > Ried (-4 - exact money)
    C) Ozil > Fabregas, Rose > Smalling (-4)
    D) Ozil > Fabregas, Rose > Cresswell (-4)

    Have Sanchez, Rojo, Payet, Lanzini.

          WHM don't keep many cs though and as an attacking team they generally offer up chances to the oppo.

          I still can't decide betwixt Nobler/Coyote/Antonio/Lazarini 😕

            You have Payet I presume.
            I have him and Lanzini, Lanzini being a remnant of a GW32 WC (in which he did well). I personally wouldn't go Noble now, I think it's points chasing but it could be a stunning differential too. Last games at Upton park and all that. Antonio too annoying that he is reverse OOP. Carroll I'm not convinced on his minutes. Or his all around ability as a footballer. He's going to revert to donkey at some point.

      Hmmm...has quite a few gametime issues (Haz, Fir, Cou, Luk) and a number of players out of form (Luk, Martian).

      She does have a point. Do you think they will finish in the top 10 next season?

    5. Ruth_NZ

      I think it has been an awful PL this season. Chelsea imploded for the first half of the season yet are 9th. United have been dire and are still 5th. City have been woeful much of the time and utterly inconsistent and are 4th. Arsenal have gone backwards and are 3rd. Spurs have done well with a very young team and are 2nd but they don't have a team that finishes 2nd in a season of normal quality.

      Leicester are fundamentally a poor team. So many things have gone for them - no Europe, early exits from the cups, opponents under-estimating them and performing poorly themselves, a purple patch from 2 players (Vardy, Mahrez) that they will probably never repeat. What else do they have? Kante's engine is very good. A couple of "kick it, head it" journeyman centre backs. A good GK, I'll give them that. But they are fundamentally a poor team by European standards (which are what the PL champions must be assessed by) and next season will demonstrate that.

      There is a lot to like about their achievement. But that doesn't make them a great football team.

        We'll find out in Europe I suppose. For entertainments sake I hope they don't feel like they've reached the pinnacle. Otherwise next season will be a let down, much like Chelsea on the back of lasts seasons triumph.

          • 9 Years

          Yep.

          The thing is that I think Leicester have gone way past their pinnacle and off into space. 🙂

          I fear they may come down with a bump. Maybe at Stamford Bridge on the last day of the season.

    GW37... Liverpool assets (excluding Sakho):

    Don't buy
    Don't sell
    Don't captain
    Don't bench

    Thats my thought anyway. If you're lucky you'll get 2 or 1.5 games. Should get at least 1. And when they do play, they're scoring well.

    Need some help with transfers for this week. I have a lead in my MLs so thinking of keeping Aguero as most others have him, just in case he explodes. So I have my eye on Bolasie & Sakho for the transfers out.

    Mannone (Robles)

    Bellerin Smalling Simpson (Sakho Gabriel)

    Sanchez Payet Hazard Bolasie (Fletcher)

    Aguero Martial Defoe

    OPTIONS are -
    Aguero & Sakho -> Carroll & Cresswell
    Bolasie & Sakho -> Barkley/ Willian & Russell Martin
    Bolasie & Sakho -> Noble/ Kouyate & Cresswell
    Aguero & Bolasie -> Carroll & Firmino/ Fabregas

    Thoughts ?
