Dugout Discussion – Croatia vs Portugal

Saturday evening serves up one last encounter as Croatia take on Portugal for a place in the quarter finals.

Anti Cacic’s side are slight favourites for this one after coming from behind to defeat defending champions Spain 2-1 last time out.

Certainly, the Group D winners pose plenty of close-range threat. Croatia notched five times, netting twice in each of the last two, and were ranked joint-third along with Vincente del Bosque’s side for efforts inside the opposition box over the group stages.

Croatia’s late capitulation against Czech Republic in Matchday 2, where they threw away a two-goal advantage with 15 minutes remaining, offers hope to Portugal.

Fernando Santos’ side arrived at the Euros as a defensive-minded outfit but have fired more attempts on goal than any other side. Given that Cristiano Ronaldo registered an incredible 30 of his nation’s 70 attempts, the Real Madrid man will surely be a pivotal figure if Portugal are to progress.

Stick. Neur won't get more than 6, might even get 5. Could be as low as 1.

Yeah it's that point whee it's smack in the middle of a stick or twist decision. 5 would be a definitely stick, 3 would be a definite twist.

Stick. 2 points to lose or 2 points to gain. Rather stay if you're in an okay position.

Read this earlier, everything will be fine..

Well that wasn't so bad. A Prime Minister resigned. The £ plummeted. The FTSE 100 lost significant ground. But then the £ rallied past February levels, and the FTSE closed on a weekly high: 2.4% up on last Friday, its best performance in 4 months. President Obama decided we wouldn't be at the 'back of the queue' after all and that our 'special relationship' was still strong. The French President confirmed the Le Touquet agreement would stay in place. The President of the European Commission stated Brexit negations would be 'orderly' and stressed the UK would continue to be a 'close partner' of the EU. A big bank denied reports it would shift 2,000 staff overseas. The CBI, vehemently anti-Brexit during the referendum campaign, stated British business was resilient and would adapt. Several countries outside the EU stated they wished to begin bi-lateral trade talks with the UK immediately. If this was the predicted apocalypse, well, it was a very British one. It was all over by teatime. Not a bad first day of freedom. #keepcalmcarryon

It is true enough. Things are never as bad or good as you expect. Take Portugal v Croatia for example i think many of us thought that might be really good. Yet it isn't

With respect . "Protest vote" as you call it. That's an awful lot of protesters , many tories incidently. The fact that many business leaders were divided on this subject indicates there was no right or wrong answer. The truth is when both sides lie through their teeth throughout campaigning how can the average person come to a balanced conclusion ? Speaking like the result is a disaster is complete tosh.

I disagree I think many people did use it as a protest vote and many people do not really understand what they are voting for,.

To be honest I think that has been a problem in this country for a while now people just want to show dissatisfaction with the system by voting against the status quo so we end up with people I consider fairly useless in charge.
You are right there is no right or wrong answer the result will suit some people more than others though.
I agree that the information given by both sides was ridiculous and have posted as such further down the page.

I do think people have been mislead by both sides. But damage a lot of damage could be done by leaving. Hopefully it won't be as bad as it could be.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying cheese. I gather from my 20 and 17 year old kids that social media is generally spreading doom and gloom about their prospects which is worrying in itself.
However I believe the result would have been very different if things had been handled differently. If Cameron had focused his campaign primarily on positives rather than doomsday scenarios of not supporting him he would have gained far more credibility. Additionally he should have appeared to be impartial. Nailing his colours to the mast was always going to make it a political decision in some eyes. Maybe it was just arrogance or stupidity , we will never know.Ultimately a decision of this nature should never have become a public one.

I agree with all of that.

Someone calling a referendum against something they beleive in should never have come to pass in the first place.

My biggest problem with the result of the referendum is the effect it will have on the union. I live in Scotland and I want to stay part of the UK. Another damn referendum leading to a Scotland alone as part of the EU just seems so messy in my opinion and it may come. I voted to stay part of the UK last time and I will again but I just do not know how will pan out but do we really have to go through it all again.

One of these days the SNP will win it if they hold that referendum enough times

To think all Londoners have 'no financial hardship whatsoever ' is moronic.

I live in the North of England, and have a fairly good grasp on things, thanks though.

I also know a huge number of people in the North that voted to Remain.

I think Bale(c) sticking is rather stupid. The highest points you can lose is effectively 3. We'll have many players who can do a lot more than 5 in the coming games. Sticking with 5 is like not trying our best in any competition.

All your fantasy games will be linked. The more games (not just football) you play the more 'award points' you get, the more players you can have in your team.

The grand canyon probably takes up most of your day. You can take a flight over it, which is expensive but really amazing (you don't really get a sense of its scale without it).

Old las vegas is also worth a visit.

What do we reckon the change to FPL will be?

I reckon that since UFPL is not running it could be something similar incorporated into the traditional game, i.e. changing (C) to another day. Especially with this Friday game coming into effect soon

Well, which one did you pick?

Also, I wonder how many totally forgot that they have to pay attention to overlap in the next round. My guess is everyone.

Can see Pepe going in for Nani.

Him on one wing, Sterling on the other and he's two thirds there with his team.

Brozovic gets tonnes of chances every game and misses all of them 😆
