Dugout Discussion – Italy vs Spain

The Round of 16 is concluded today with a couple more fixtures for Fantasy managers to consider.

First up at 5pm, Italy take on Spain for the right to meet Germany in the quarter-finals.

Both sides will be looking to bounce back from respective defeats to Republic of Ireland and Croatia in the final round of group matches.

Having swept aside Belgium and Sweden in their first couple of fixtures, Antonio Conte’s men will be confident of overcoming the defending champions, though will need to make do without the injured Antonio Candreva this afternoon.

The stats are somewhat in Spain’s favour for this one, though. Despite scoring just once more than The Azzurri so far, Vicente del Bosque’s side fired more than double the number of attempts on goal (51 to 25) and have allowed their opponents just 27 attempts on goal compared to Italy’s 34.

      He won't have Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini but yeah for sure they'll be tough to break down with him in charge. Wonder if he will play 3-5-2 though. Has the players for it with Italy and had the players for it at Juve. Chelsea don't at present and Hazard doesn't suit the formation.

        Chelsea are capable of signing world class CB's, though I get your point. Those 3 are a unit and defend together.

        I think he should go 3 at the back. Get Hazard in the 10 or up front, if he stays.

        Chelsea would be my outsider to win the title TBH.

          He's never played with a #10 in that system though. It's always been a deep lying playmaker (Pirlo at Juve, De Rossi in this tournament) with two box-to-box mids either side (Vidal + Pogba/Giaccherini + Parolo). He could change it of course but it wouldn't have the same organisational and defensive structure.
