The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 2 – Friday

Typically, Zlatan Ibrahimovic ensures that he crashes the Paul Pogba party, but the impact of the Frenchman’s energy at Old Trafford was there for all to see. Here’s the Stock Check after Friday’s night’s Gameweek 2 opener.

On the Rise

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Friday’s Gameweek opener has made it almost impossible to ignore him.

While his performances have hardly been vintage, Ibrahimovic’s ability to score goals has been in evidence from the get-go and his impact devastating.

Paul Pogba’s arrival as the legs and possession winner in midfield has almost enabled the Swede to settle in the role he does best – now he can almost afford to drift in and out of the game, cropping up to provide moments of quality in the box where it matters.

Already the most transferred in tonight, it’s Hull City up next and the international break gap – multiple price rises look assured.

Luke Shaw
Just as Antonio Valencia looked to have the advantage, Shaw responded with a barnstorming display down the left. The assist for United’s penalty compounded an impressive display.
Again Pogba could be the influence here. Lining up on the left side of the double pivot, his ability to dominate possession could now see the power swing to the left side and promote Shaw as the choice full-back.

However, Valencia was just three behind Shaw in the Bonus Point System, despite his assist. We will continue to monitor but for now, Valencia remains our choice.

Paul Pogba
It was obvious that Pogba’s energy lifted United and brought the best out of those around him – it’s perhaps less obvious how the Frenchman will rate as a Fantasy asset.

He had more touches than any other player, he had more attempts on goal than any other United player but we need more time to see if that translates to returns to justify the 8.5 outlay.

In Decline

Wayne Rooney
Whilst Rooney chipped in with the assist for Ibrahimovic’s opener, when the Swede took the ball to stroke home United’s second, the skipper’s fate was sealed. The 2.5 price difference was tempting but Ibrahimovic has already made his mark, leaving Rooney playing second fiddle now and, most likely, throughout the season.

Notably, it’s also been Rooney, not the Swede who has been withdrawn in both league outings late on.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

yeah, but the price you pay for him has to be well justified, you look at his goals, conversion rate simply not sustainable..

@greenbackboog, if you honestly look at how he played, nothing great of the vardy and kane of last season.
@twisted, you can be sure if i go ibra, its cos like you , we just want to go green..but guess you want rooney too since you currently own him.

They said last season that Vardy's form and conversion rate was unsustainable as well.

Worth getting in for the Hull game, then international break surely.

You never know, it could be Rooney's turn to bag a brace vs Hull, but just make sure whatever you do, it's not out of spite or stubbornness.

He has sustained that conversion rate for close to around 5 seasons now when not injured.

without being dramatic - I have a "Suarez" feeling about Ibra in these early stages. Goals + bandwagon and by GW7 if you don't have him it's see you next season...Suarez averaged 8.9 ppg during his 33gws...

Disgruntled Rooney owner? Me too, but accept he's far less attractive at £9m if Ibra is going to be taking the pens.

you see that's something i unfortunately have to (rooney should be more selfish and take the penalties!!) so that i don't be like mark in 13/14 with ramsey , a red this week would shift me abt ibra..

There's no doubt that the 2.5m difference could be invested brilliantly (it allowed me Mahrez vs Hull instead of a £6m mid), but for now, I'm following the herd. If it wasn't Hull next maybe I'd play the patient game. He'll be a standout captain choice when Aguero is up against West Ham and Hazard has Burnley (Spurs v Liverpool too), so might be difficult to back alternatives.

Rooney will be rotated sooner or later, 10 goals would would be a success for him this year.

    C) hold for another week

Yeah - that was the big blow. My reasoning was that MU might need some time to gel up and Hull were supposed to be last years Villa - not last years Leicester. The Leicester blow up was a bad beat.

No worries he will be 8-8.5 soon enough. Tadic and a well spent 4 mil change beats Ibra by the end of the season. Guess who is not getting Ibra in. Yes I am stubborn and possibly stupid.

Gave in and did Tadic to Redmond, and Vardy to Ibra yest for 2FTs.

Happy with the 0.3 TV swing, but there's some self loathing for the jerking knees.

None of us know for sure how the next week turns out in terms of points. So avoiding a player with 50% ownership who will also be captained heavily (and rise fast) is just too much risk in what's ultimately a guessing game. (when the objections winning MLs)

Am I deluding myself with that rationale?

Nope, I did the same. I don't think it's knee-jerk of it's being done for rational strategic or tactical reasons. You would have waited if you could but market forces ruled that out.

Granted I've had Ibra from the start, but if I didn't the possibility of missing out on his points combined with his ownership plus the inevitable price rises from the bandwagon would make it impossible for me to hold off any longer. Any one or two of those things is fine, but when you are faced the likelihood of all 3, your hand is forced.

No, that is logical...if ur goal is to win ML. However, my goal is to get first overall, so I will not be getting ibra, and hoping he blanks or gets injured...because if he does, the Ducks will fly

3.5 million people play this game. A game of A LOT of luck. You're not going to win if you're not different. Because there are others who are better at this than you. Myself included. Over 38 weeks you're not going to outplay everyone. there's too much luck involved. So the only way to win is to be different. You don't get anything unless you place 1 2 3, right? So have fun with it...and go for the gold!

Yeah, understood. High risk high reward for me. And I'm not saying I won't eventually get him this season. I just don't think 2 games is enough to force a Vardy or Kane or whoever swap, especially before the games over the weekend. Also, hilarious that u used that roulette analogy, because that's exactly the way I bet!

In terms of having a chance to judge form 2 games is not enough. But for some players there are other factors at work. Anyway, good luck, in some ways I'd be quite happy to see the Zlatanwagon fall apart.

Well put. This particular combination of ownership, captaincy and real life popularity is too much to ignore.

            2. ducksfly2gether
              • 8 Years
              7 years, 9 months ago

However, you're only covering off that threat by captaining him every week. Because u know the masses will. And if he hauls, sure it's a good score, but you're hardly gaining anything. So if u can't make up ground with ur captain, good luck. But then think about u captaining him when he gets 2. You're in trouble. Especially if aguero hauls. So, you'll get both and every week wonder who you should captain. A or Z? Not to mention the top heavy front line which will affect the rest of your team. I'm not rereading this because I'm on my cell, so hope it makes sense.

1.5 ITB and 2 FT (might have to take a -4 for Hazard if need be)

He is looking alright and home to Sunderland next.
He will be great value in time.

Didn't start the 1st game but has been really good since.

We are all anticipating a rage of transfers if specific players fail to perform, e.g. Vardy, Gray, Kane and so fourth. Let's not forget, Ibra has had two very straightforward matches. I understand the pessimism with Vardy, but Kane played against a solid 3-5-2 formation, along with a bunch of players who wanted to impress Koeman. I may keep Gray even for next week, as I don't have total confidence in other 6.5 strikers

Definitely - wild cards too. I drafted a WC team after the game last night which includes Ibra, and had 0.3 itb. Now Ibra's up one and Feggers down one so I only have 0.1 to spare. I MUST play the WC after today's matches and not wait for Sunday due to the next raft of rises and especially falls.

I thought he did okay apart from his finishing. Shocked to see his price fall overnight.

        All because of Ibra.
