Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – West Ham United vs Southampton

After Saturday treated us to eight matches and 29 goals, we have just a solitary fixture to focus our attentions on today.

West Ham welcome Southampton to the London Stadium as Slaven Bilic attempts to halt a run of three straight Premier League losses.

Both sides chalked up EFL Cup wins in midweek, yet while the Saints saw off Palace to rack up a third successive victory in all competitions, the Hammers had to rely on a last-minute free-kick from Dimitri Payet to see off Accrington Stanley.

With a pair of assists in each of the last two Gameweeks, the Frenchman has been in fine form since returning from injury.

Nonetheless, Payet has remained overlooked by many Fantasy managers due to the form of Michail Antonio, who has netted five times in four since being moved onto the flank.

With his defence in disarray, Bilic will be relying on that duo to get the better of a Saints side that have picked up a single point in their two road trips so far.

For the Saints, Nathan Redmond remains their most popular FPL asset despite a four-match barren streak, though Dusan Tadic is the form player heading into this one, having served up an assist in each of the last two Gameweeks.

How's everyone doing? Having a bad week, 49 with Capoue and Heaton to go, not happy but seen some WC teams not even hit 60 yet so don't feel so bad.

    Good or bad weekend?

That's not a bad week. Happy enough with 52 with Deeney and maybe Holebas left. Stopped the rot.

Same ish. 52 with Deeney and hopefully Holebas. If no Holebas, no one....I insisted on drafting only injure or sick players on WC. A new, deft strategy.

WC. 52 and only Holebas to go, so prob 52. Happy enough to save the FT and Zlatan (c) next week. If he blanks, then 2 FTS to play with.

          Thanks guys 🙂
@ FUNKDOC - My Cazorla plan is to give him one more chance next week - Arsenal really have some great fixtures now. I still think he'll be on pens after Sanchez missed the one he stole last time out. If he doesn't perform vs Burnley, or we don't get confirmation he's back on pens, I will likely use my FT next week to swap him for a Liverpool mid although I'm tempted to hold off on Pool attack until GW9

Antonio would be more of a concern for me if he (and West Ham as a team) doesn't perform at home to Boro next week

Caz and Antonio get one more game I'm thinking then review with 2FT next week. Also want to see how Ibra does.
If I hear of any Antonio benching rumours will be tempting to switch for Lallana though.

    Play:

    1) Lovren - SWA (A)
    2) Holebas - BOU (H)

Hull hardly had any chances against Liverpool but Liverpool are poor at set-pieces. On the other hand Lovren, Matip and Karius seems like a huge improvement over last season.

Also got Firmino/Mane in the midfield that will gain 2 pts IF Liverpool keep a cleansheet

Is Antonio to Lallana for free too knee-jerky?

Have not watched much West Ham but watched every Pool game and Lallana is getting forward a lot but not getting as many chances as Firm + Cou but seems to be getting in more dangerous positions and is in the form of his life.

        strange!

          Good fixture for Antonio.
          Still good goal/game ratio.
Southampton are a good defensive team.
Pressure on West Ham to perform.
          You keep a FT.

            all valid points.

although I wouldn't say Saints have been a good defensive team this season

I am definitely considering the move but some nice replies here so will mull it over some more, won't be making the move until Friday if at all unless price changes force a decision.

And yet west ham were dominated, like they had nine men. Antonio and Payet may be good, but I don't think this west ham team have the remaining talent, or spirit, or whatever right now to have confidence. When given the choice, I'd rather go with similarly priced players on teams doing really well.

I don't think it is too knee jerky, but you could wait given neither price is changing in the wrong direction imminently. West Ham look bad, and idk at they can score consistently. Liverpool look good, and they seemingly score multiple goals per game, and can rout teams. I like the idea of two pool attackers to go with two city attackers.

good advice, I won't make the move until price change seems imminent.

having watched West Ham game and Liverpool game, , I'm getting rid of Antonio for Lallana, West Ham just struggling everywhere, couldn't get the ball out of their half for most of the match. Antonio, looked threatening when he did get the ball, but just wasn't getting enough service. Liverpool on the other hand....

That is my thinking but wondering if I need to be more patient with Antonio...

although that Pool game could have been double digits. Same can be said for Derby, Chelsea and Leicester games, Pool could have scored more. Not only are they smashing teams but they are creating a lot of very good goal scoring chances.

Think it's a bit hasty. Does Antonio not have some merit for what he's done before this gameweek. Playing 3 of the bottom 6 in next 5 fixtures.

Antonio deserves lots of merit, just the team behind him have made me lose faith.

that's true Demi, but the way Hammers are playing is rattling my confidence in Antonio's output, the whole team just seems to be lacking confidence and playing nowhere near how they were playing last season.

Capoue is sorta a constant for all of us given his uncanny start. I'd not even factor him into the equation. If you want Deeney or Ighalo, cos you feel it, then just do it. There are other options though.

    Adrian
    Baines / Cook / Ward
Bolasie / Tadic / Firmino / De Bruyne / Townsend
    Aguero / Ibra

Need to get rid of Adrian (WHM being terrible) and De Bruyne (Injured) - Who should I get in?

Best way to raise extra for Kdb to Sanchez

    1.Sell Baines for Holebas
    2.Sell Carzola to Son/Lalaana

    Thanks

Fellow Ibra-keepers, are we still holding firm? A 0.3 price drop before next GW could really hurt, especially if he blanks against Stoke..

Although losing the money is not good, at least if you have to sell you can still buy pretty much anyone else

that's how I see it as well.
He could be down to 11.3 by Sunday though

Selling before Stoke at home is madness, even if you lose money.

Even if it means you might not be able to fit in Sanchez in GW8?

          that's a tough scenario.
what are your options, can you wait until after the CL match to re-assess?

Sanchez will rise tonight, Ibra will drop at least another 0.1 by Wednesday.

Yes, I could wait until after the CL game.

IF Sanchez goes up to 11.3 and Ibra down to 11.4 before next GW, I will have exactly 7.2 to spend on an attacker.
This would however mean that I will need to sell Antonio for Sanchez. And to replace Ibra, the only good options are Defoe and Deeney and hopefully they will not reach above 7.2 until after next deadline..

Don't want to sell Ibra, but really want to bring in Sanchez.

looks like you could get away with it.
obviously monitor the price changes, but atm you can afford to wait.
              good luck
