The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 27

While all the pre-deadline chatter centred around our confidence, or otherwise, in Sergio Aguero, it is ironic that, hours later, we’re left pondering the future prospects of two of our season’s most reliable heavy-hitters.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been earmarked as an obvious target for the Gameweek 27 armband. Bournemouth’s visit to Old Trafford appeared to present a perfect scenario for the Swede: finally, he seemed poised to deliver that 15-20 point haul that would show that he could rival any asset for big “explosive” scores.

With the Cherries defence visibly shaken by United’s early forays, it appeared that Ibrahimovic would be given that opportunity. But, instead, he was to suffer his most torrid performance of the season, returning his lowest FPL tally.

To compound matters, an errant elbow into the cheek of Tyrone Mings seems likely to be reviewed and potentially punished by the FA. That could result in a three-match ban, ruling Ibrahimovic out of Gameweeks 29 and 30.

Already missing Gameweek 28 as a result of United’s FA Cup Quarter Final with Chelsea – another match he would miss should a charge and ban arrive – Ibrahimovic has already been sold more than any other asset since the passing of today’s deadline.

While he would certainly become an obvious target once United’s double Gameweek fixtures drop in place, up until that point, he now looks set to flood out of squads, declining in ownership and price.

Certainly, should Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane impress, along with Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa, in tomorrow’s matches, then a new front three template will likely form without Ibrahimovic.

It’s again ironic that Aguero saved legions of Fantasy Premier League managers from suffering the indignity of a doubling his -1 contribution. With the focus on skippering the City man, we had a new and obvious alternative for the captaincy.

Today’s outcome also created further doubt that, even in a double Gameweek scenario, Ibrahimovic could struggle to rival the promise of Aguero, Kane or Sanchez when it comes to dealing the Triple Captain chip.

But Sanchez produced his own shockwaves, having been ousted to the bench by Arsene Wenger for the evening trip to Liverpool.

While the Chilean impressed and produced an assist from the bench, Wenger’s almost inexplicable decision was unexpected and unwelcome.

Those who turned the back on the Aguero Triple Captain option, banking on the inevitable Sanchez double Gameweek to come, now have to consider that Giroud’s pitch time remains a factor. There will also be further speculation on the relationship between player and manager, while Arsenal’s erratic form and morale remains a concern.

No doubt targeted for an early return to our squads from Gameweek 29 onwards, tonight’s teamsheet and lacklustre first-half from the Gunners may just slow the clamour to return for Sanchez’s services.

Suddenly, with Ibrahimovic potentially out of the equation and confidence in Sanchez taking a knock, those Man City assets may just stick around longer than expected.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

          Haha, hardly 🙂

But since Wednesday's win, they got one reasonably quick 0.1m and then nothing. Doesn't make sense.

Price prediction sites aren't accurate enough. 8 over 100% didn't rise on FPLStats.

I know what you are saying, but they were miles over the threshold this time, and were the same when they got their price rises Friday morning.

Nothing we can do. The 0.1ms would have been handy, but one should never plan based on potential price rises.

yup, definitely something fishy going on. FFF and FPLstats are in the 90s (%) for the season accuracy wise.
The City players have been stifled, no doubt about it.

I assumed it was because there were loads more wildcards this week and they aren't included in price changes but are included in these stat websites' data but the number of WCs isn't significantly higher than usual... although perhaps the vast majority of them would be bringing in the same City assets

FPL didn't want people profiting off of kun and Sterling knowing most players would sell them off the very next gameweek. So they prevented them from rising last night.

Sorry, but there arent that many wildcards played this week to have their transfers not count.

An extra tab on the FPL site?
People here complain about too much twitter info already.

Once the season has started, player prices may change by £0.1m a day, based on activity in the transfer market.
Both the formula used to calculate this change and the time of the change include variable factors, and won’t be revealed to game players.

                      Variable factors....

Mane will outscore the other Liverpool mids - as he has this season. It's not a question or debate - the only question is whether money saved on him by opting for Coutinho or Mane will bring benefits elsewhere.

He is the best finisher and the most explosive. That's why he has the best points per game and the most points overall of the Liverpool options.

He really does. I was tempted to ship him after seeing him in the EFL game. He was on the floor in injury at one point, defender just walked past him with the ball, he's fatigued and there's no doubt about it. Even towards the end of the Leicester game he wasn't making any attempt to run. The rest should do him good though and he's got 2 double coming up. How he'll manage 2 games in 2 weeks on those 2 occasions, and with Europa League, the rest will quickly be diminished I feel. He won't be at United next season I'd say and he's got his trophy. Think he'll be keen to win another one in Europa and won't be too pushed about the league. Hence the elbow, he doesn't give a sh-t that he night miss the FA Cup game, he's Zlatan.

It's possible he will regress but he's shown good instincts and seems the premier league is suiting him. Southampton now have confidence in scoring goals, 8 in the last 2 and with the defence they have, they'll have to keep scoring. Great fixtures in 29 and 30 and even 31 with the possibility of an early double.

    Kun, Crouch> kaku, llorente

Giving me this 9 for gw28:

    Heat
    Brunt Baines Amat(!)
    Mane Siggy Tdavies
    Kaku llorente.

    A) -4 to ship Amat for a cheap gw28 eneblar? (considering Amat gave a valuable 1 point today)

    B) -4 to ship Sterl for a WHU mid? I prefer holding Sterl.

    (Cech Grant)
    Baines McAuley (Alonso Walker Amat)
Mane Barkley Stan (Sterling de Roon)
    Lukaku (Ibra Aguero)

Current GW28 team is a shambles due to this City DGW. Thoughts on these moves? Expecting Ibra to get a ban.

    A) Siggy and Llorente for Stan and Ibra (-4)
    B) A + Snod/Antonio for de Roon (-8)
