The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 33

With the day billed as a head-to-head between Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, it was the Spurs man who ultimately came out on top – rewarding those who move to adopt him early to maximise his potential as a short-term differential.

The gap was six points – hardly a huge margin but enough to elevate Kane’s status and ensure that he’s currently second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – with Manchester United’s two fixtures – for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 34 so far.

In contrast, Lukaku looks destined for an ownership loss as traffic moves to Ibrahimovic: there is already a deficit with only Diego Costa, and Jamie Vardy sold more among forwards at this point.

Selling Lukaku remains a scary prospect – with 12 goals in ten, 13 in his last eight at home – the Everton striker could easily punish the shift to the United man.

He will face a trip to West Ham, while Ibrahimovic squares up to both Burnley and Manchester City away. With a Goodison Park encounter with Chelsea to follow before we shift to Double Gameweek assets, for many Fantasy managers, today will be the final farewell for Lukaku – a player who has been a spectacular servant since the season’s mid-way point.

Kane is heading in the opposite direction.

While the Spurs midfield is awash with consistent options – a fact demonstrated again in today’s win over Bournemouth – Kane is surely now the premium striker of choice.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in irrepressible form, with Kane now back installed as the spearhead to feed off the first-class service provided by Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min in particular.

Kane went into the today’s encounter as part of 590,000 squads, with 251,000 of those owners immediately trusting him with the captaincy.

He was to score and assist for only the third time this season, sealing the maximum bonus to double Lukaku’s six-point tally.

Having delivered on the armband, Fantasy managers are now faced with a dilemma.

Ibrahimovic is clearly being brought in for his two fixtures as the default captaincy option and yet Spurs’ form, even heading into a testing trip to Crystal Palace, is difficult to ignore.

Looking at the past four matches for all sides, Pochettino’s men have scored 13 goals – five more than any other side. They also lead the way for attempts, shots in the box and big chances.

Comparing them directly with United, they’ve recorded 38 shots on target compared to 21 from Jose Mourinho’s side when both sides’ last four matches are considered.

Even if we can be certain that Ibrahimovic will figure in both his Gameweek 34 fixtures, it’s debatable whether he can better Kane’s potential output.

Spurs are seemingly hellbent on maintaining their title challenge, and the striker himself appears focused on closing on Lukaku in the Golden Boot race.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Spurs and Kane have outscored double Gameweek assets and punished those who dare overlook them. In Gameweek 34 last season, they hit four at Stoke City with Kane firing a brace after 200,000 shipped him out.

Nobody will be selling Kane this time around, but it’s the armband decision that looks key.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    GW 34 Line-Up:

    Valdes
    Valencia / Gibson / Walker
    Sanchez / Alli / Zaha / King
    Ibrahimovic / Kane / Lukaku

    GK: Heaton / 1. de Roon / 2. Robertson / 3. Stephens

Well, I haven't actually made the Valdes & Gibson moves yet, but am bound to. Is there anything you'd do differently? I have Valencia already, but not expecting him to play both games given Mourinho's comments. Similar worry for Walker, to be honest.

I doubt Valdes + Gibson move because they are both useless after GW34, and it is effectively -8 for each

I'm aware they have awful fixtures afterwards, but I do still have my WC. Depending on whether I play my TC in GW36, I'll either be WC-ing in GW35 or 36.

Walker vs Palace seems very unlikely if he plays Fa cup semi, but Robertson is nice bench vs Watford home. Valencia we don´t know. Prior to the IB he played almost everything, and Mou´s comment can be interpreted in both directions meaning either past or future. Given their fixtures it seems although that rest for Valencia will be for Burnley-)

Worth a go if you have the wildcard in reserve.

    Advice please guys,

TC Zlatan this week, away to Burnley, and Man City
Or TC Sanchez in GW36 against Boro, and Southampton I believe.

    Gw37 is for bench boost

    Thanks

Sanchez has Man Utd and Southampton. I'd be tempted by Ibra.

I am tempted, although Burnley are usually fairly solid at home, and city derby should be close.
But Sanchez has gone off the boil recently....whatever I do, it'll backfire

I have exactly the same problem,im also thinking Ibra 34 or Sanchez 36 TC.really want BB in 37.dont know what to do.

I think BB is obvious for GW37, should have a squad of 14 with DGWs and Zaha (hull at home)....if my best thought out plans come to pass.

But Zlatan v Sanchez is 50-50 right now

Sounds similar,im also 50/50 on sanchez/ibra who to pick TC.probably have 14 players and zaha too in GW 37...

Would you bench any of these players for de Roon?
Sanchez, Alli, Eriksen, Zaha, Lukaku, Kane

Don't understand why people are ditching Kun over Lukaku.

    Is it purely cost decision?

I can afford both swaps but I'm going for big Rom out for West Ham and Chelsea.

Don't forget Kun has a DGW coming up too

He is ticking over with the goals but you can get that from a number of strikers. At his price Kun isn't hitting double figures like he would in the past.

Most will have a wildcard left to get Kun back if they want him for the run in. I think West Ham is a good fixture for Lukaku since they're terrible. Plus it's easier to downgrade than it is to upgrade.

City at Boro isn't so bad. And, no Europa League to worry about.

Most will probably say yes, but it's a tough one. No for me. Can easily see Kun outscore Ibra in the derby, then it's a matter of how much Ibra can cover everything in the Burnley game.

Want to use my AOA chip in gw34. Will WC in gw35. Following moves worth it to give this line up? Yay or Nay?

    Lukaku & Siggy > Ibra & Townsend (-4)

    Valdes

    Valencia Alonso

Sanchez Alli Zaha Townsend De Roon

    Kane Benteke Ibra(c)

Yeah agree was almost thinking no point in using it but De Roon might be worth a punt for the dgw over Baines.

Do we really expect Ibra to score heavily? As a Utd fan I would not be surprised with a 4pt return from what are arguably 2 of the toughest fixtures on paper. Also we rarely score a bucketload so even if we did score 2 or 3 across these 2 fixtures it's not certain Ibra will be involved

      I dont , getting regardless though .
Very high risk not having and GW 35 looks good for those WCing in 36

Do think it's likely that ibra will be involved if MU score 2-3

Yes but i expect a 0-0 at Burnley and no guarantees we will score more than 1 at city - check our track record we are hard to beat but haven't been free scoring at many points during the season. Burnley are solid at home and will treat as a cup final and City could quite easily dominate in the same way they did at Old Trafford unless Jose tightens things up which will make for a hard fought lower scoring affair

No WC left so I think better making other transfers in preparation for upcoming fixtures - also to ensure full squad for those bench boosting in gw37

This is my thinking, I love DGWs but with no WC I need to prepare for 37

Which def to ship for Gibson?

    A) walker

    B) Baines

Thinking walker as he is subject to rotation? Plus spurs play arsenal in gw35 and likely to concede?

boro def look useless after dgw34 so i will punt on this what do u think ?

    a) PVA
    b) rojo/bailly who is more nail? (also hav dgw37)

Is it really worth bringing in a boro defender?

Sure they have a dgw but only likely to keep 1 clean sheet out of those.

    Then their fixtures are shocking.

Worth it for GW34, two decent fixtures, but then as you say all downhill from there

The only plus point is that everyone is now fit, so a back 4 of Fabio Chambers Gibson Friend after this week isn't bad.

Boro have no option but to go all out to win next 2 , otherwise they are doomed.
