The Stock Check – Gameweek 33 – Sunday

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is benched for the first time this term as a pair of Man United differentials stake a claim for double Gameweek 34. Diego Costa disappoints again as the transfers out build, while Roberto Firmino’s climb up the FPL leaderboard continues.

On the Rise

Ander Herrera
With double Gameweek 34 just around the corner, the Spaniard picked the perfect time to deliver a season-high FPL haul thanks to a goal and assist in United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea.

Herrera – who has started all but one of the league matches he has been available for since Gameweek 12 – also provided an assist away to Sunderland in the previous fixture, marking the first time this term he has produced consecutive returns.

With just three assists to his name prior to that Black Cats encounter, though, it’s fair to say that Herrera has been far from prolific.

Clearly, he remains a gamble but, at just 6.3 and owned by less than 1% of managers, could be worth a flutter as United prepare to face Burnley and Man City next time out.

Marcus Rashford
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic shifted to the bench, the United youngster’s pace through the middle proved the undoing of Chelsea’s defence as he bagged an early opener against the league leaders.

After failing to score since Gameweek 6, Rashford has now notched in back-to-back league outings, having also found the net against Sunderland last time out.

While it seems unlikely that Rashford will retain a central role at the expense of Ibrahimovic, it’s worth noting that he has now started four of United’s last five league fixtures ahead of the double.

Like Herrera, he would be a somewhat risky selection, yet a 6.5 price tag may appeal as a cheap third forward if you’re willing to roll the dice.

Roberto Firmino
Overlooked by the recent clamour for the services of team-mate Philippe Coutinho, Firmino climbed to fifth in the FPL midfield standings by firing the only goal of Liverpool’s 1-0 win at West Brom.

Shrugging off his manager’s suggestions of tiredness, Firmino – along with Coutinho – returned to the starting XI after being utilised off the bench at Stoke City last week.

The former Hoffenheim man has now registered points in each of his last six league outings, serving up three goals and four assists over that stretch to emerge as the Reds’ top scoring FPL asset.

There’s no doubt that the lack of a double Gameweek clearly limits Liverpool’s appeal. Yet owners who have already played their second wildcard may well decide to hold, given his form and fixtures to follow – up next, clashes against Crystal Palace, Watford, Southampton, West Ham and Middlesbrough hand Firmino the chance to maintain his most consistent run of the season.

In Decline

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
In light of his manager’s conflicting comments, there still remains some doubt as to why the veteran was named on the bench today.

In the build-up to the match, we had Ibrahimovic admitting he was tired during Thursday’s Europa League clash with Anderlecht.

After announcing his teamsheet, Mourinho then backed that up by saying Ibrahimovic was named on the bench as he was “tired, very tired”.

However, the United manager’s post-match comments put a different slant on the situation ahead of double Gameweek 34.

Mourinho indicated he had copied the same tactics used against Chelsea in a recent FA Cup fixture – a match that Ibrahimovic was suspended for. To add a further twist, he then went back on his pre-match words by saying:

“Maybe we didn’t rest. Maybe we just chose the team that we thought was the best team.”

If it was no more than tactics, that Mourinho simply looked for Rashford’s speed to trouble the Blues’ back-three, then today’s teamsheet may ultimately prove no bad news for Ibrahimovic’s owners ahead of the double, considering he was afforded just eight minutes.

Regardless, it would be remiss not to include him in this section, if only to acknowledge that this was the first time he failed to start a league match that he was available for since joining the club.

Certainly, today’s events haven’t deterred would-be investors from making the leap – Ibrahimovic is the number one transfer target ahead of United’s double, with over 23,000 new owners since yesterday.

Ahead of those two fixtures – against Burnley and Man City – it’s the Turf Moor trip that remains the potential rotation hotspot for United’s assets. While Rashford’s performance would have demonstrated that Mourinho could possibly have the option of resting Ibrahimovic before the derby clash, the fact that United are now still very much in touch with the top four perhaps reduces that risk.

Diego Costa
The out-of-sorts Chelsea striker shipped more than 121,000 FPL owners heading into Gameweek 33 – more than any player.

This afternoon’s blank against United extended Costa’s wretched run to just two goals in his last ten league appearances, as a third yellow card in five underlined his frustration and left the Spain international’s 31.5% owners with a single FPL point for their troubles.

With Harry Kane looking irresistible and double Gameweek 34 forwards on the agenda, Costa – with just three shots on target in his last four outings – is set for significant sales once again as we freshen up our three-man frontlines.

Indeed, the exodus has continued at pace since yesterday – he is again the most transferred out forward, jettisoned by a further 14,000+ former owners.

Gareth McAuley
Sold by more than 44,000 FPL managers last week, the Irishman remains subject to a major exodus due to the Baggies’ upcoming blank Gameweek 34.

The number one transferred out defender since yesterday’s deadline by some distance, McAuley – owned by over 32% – has already earned over 9,000 sales.

Clearly, there’s a growing worry that, with their safety secured, Tony Pulis’ side are already on the beach – they have managed just one clean sheet in nine and scored in only one of their previous seven.

Furthermore, McAuley’s goal threat has all but evaporated – the Irishman has failed to register a single attempt in his last seven league outings.

Granted, he did, nonetheless, play from start to finish after failing to last 60 minutes in the previous two fixtures.

Yet with a far from favourable double Gameweek 37 against Chelsea and Man City to follow, the Baggies defender could now play a peripheral part in our thinking from this point onwards.

    Who would you bench here:
    A) coutts (cry)
    B) alli (cry)
    C) king (mid)
    D) de roon (bou, sun)

Other mid is Zaha who I will definitely play and I've used aoa. Would normally bench de roon but dgw is making me consider coutts...

      No good FPL prospects.

Maybe Knockaert but don't think he can make the step up.

little to early to dismiss them as Fpl options?

atm no, I agree with you, does´nt seem to be, but you never know, mybe that old right back can make it in PL too? An awful lot of assists during this campaign could make a case? Knockaert, hm, ye maybe, but uncertain he will manage the step up, but main problem it looks like they have rotated quite heavily, and that you obviously don´t want if thats the case when their up too.

Hadn't even thought about Bruno, think he's the Brighton defender I want if I get one. 20 clean sheets this year.

A lot of their attacking players need to prove themselves in the Prem, expect they'll make signings too

I have no preference to who gets promoted.

I'm just hoping Plymouth win to keep their title hopes alive.

6pts from 1st place, with 6 to go. Automatic promotion is almost secured though 🙂

Promotion would be the best thing ever after going into administration, losing all our best players, and dropping two leagues.

The title would just be a bonus! 🙂

      >If priced at 4.5 then CB's Duffy, Dunk would be good options for rotation, both capable of scoring headers.
      >Bong as well if he makes LB his own again, he had 4 assists, before injury interrupted his season.
      >Stockdale, if he gets a new deal (can't see him not being offered one) would be great at 4.5 for rotation in goal.
      >Knockaert will be a good if priced around 6.5 or below.
      >Kayal had 7 assists last season, but has been hampered by injury for most of this season, but a full pre-season should see him as 1st choice CM, but he doesn't score very often.
      >Murray will do better than the likes of Negrado, but I'm sure we'll sign an overseas striker we've never heard off to add to the competition (as well as another winger, among others)
      >Solly March is a great prospect, but will be likely to be rotated unless he hits the ground running and adds more consistency to his game.
      >Left wing has had a lot of rotation this season, the other area that has seen the most rotation is CM (mainly due to Kayal being injured), but Stephens has started most games when fit - If he signs a new deal he will start most weeks, but will likely only pop up with the odd goal & assist, very good player, but not for FPL.

    Valencia/Baines/Mee/McAuley/Amat
    King/Siggy/Zaha/Alli/Capoue
    Lukaku/Costa/Kane
    1.8K cash

Can afford it financially, worth going -8 for DGW?

I do want to be aggressive to keep my ML lead, the other guys don't have many DGW players. Come to think of it, most of those points will come back to me if most players get 2x60 mins

I think A and C definitely worth it

You then need to consider Grant > Valdes in isolation - is that worth -4?

Valid point. The way I see it, if Valdes only gets 2 points from one of the games, it's basicly an additional transfer for only -2...

Leaning towards all three here. Only worry is Kaku facing a West Ham side in distress and potential Ibra rotation. Wait for EL results, then?

WC team with 36 & 37 in mind...

    Pickford Valdes
    Bailly Rojo Gibson Clichy Yoshida
    Sanchez Son Eriksen Zaha King
    Kane Ibra Benteke

2.0 in the bank. Gives me 6 doubles next week, in good shape for 35, 3 doubles for 36 and 11 for 37.
Will move Valdes to Forster for 35, Benteke for Gabbiadini/Deeney & Gibson to Mustafi 36, Zaha to Sane for 37.

Look good? Any thoughts? Might go without Zaha & play King instead this week, main rival has him.

Planning that far ahead is never a good idea, something is almost certain to crop up that effects your planning.

It wasn't unexpected with Wanyama coming back from injury and Sons recent performances.

I don't think Son will start against Chelsea, but he'll probably get a few starts by looking at their games in the run-in...

It wasn't unexpected. Son is in great form so nothing unusual about him retaining his starting spot.

He's not "nailed" on however. If he has a poor game or two he will be dropped.

It hangs on wether he plays with four at the back or 3. away to Palace could make him change to 3 at the back, but not necessarily, both systems is easiliy suited to contain Palace biggest treath down the flanks, so it´s an guess and see, i guess-)?

Those who own Kun. What are you doing with him?

I can't help feel there's a major haul in one of those run-in fixtures. Is it worth holding him with Jesus rising from the dead soon?

Jesus coming back has to be an issue. I'd still keep though if I owned him.

Personally I'm removing him for Zlatan then WCing him back in.

Not sure what's happening with the whole Jesus situation though having missed most of the season. Is Kun's spot really in jeopardy?

Depends on rest of your team

If you have: Kane + 2 spurs assets then yes

      If not, Kun should go

I think he's a waste. I'd much rather play 352 and have a heavy hitter in midfield than Kun

      Thinking
      Sanchez Hazard Alli Firmino King
      Kane Kaku Anichebe

No Kun also allows extra money in defence

Feels so weird. Normally I'm all over DGW's and try to have as many doublers as possible. But I'm just not feeling it so much this season.

Only had two last DGW and will have four for this DGW.

Hopefully the DGW36 & 37 will be more exciting.

Hopefully yeah it can be good, but with so many teams having a DGW that week it makes it harder to "out do" your opponent IMO. Especially those who don't prepare for the doubles, they will still likely have plenty of DGW players.

Just an FYI, City looks much more solid at the back now Kompany is back.
    Ibra may struggle.

And Burnley, we all know what they're like at home. They've had 2x 0-0 in the last 5 again United.

Am I just justifying my no Ibra choice? Possibly.

Not sure it's worth the -4 personally. Maybe for free.
I think Lukaku and Aguero will outscore him.

        Same here. No interest.

Man Utd will be sitting back parking against City trying to steal something on the counter. Not always the best type of game for Ibra.

    Pickford Heaton
    Alonso Baines Davies Robertson Friend

    1FT / 2.0ITB

    A) Heaton -> Valdes
    B) Robertson/Baines -> Gibson/Bailly

    E) Kun + Siggy -> Ibra + Hazard (-4pts)
