Sky Sports Fantasy Football – Rate My Team Surgery

With the Sky Sport Fantasy Football game now up and running, we have dedicated out first Rate My Team article of the season to the format.

Please use this article to submit your teams for feedback. Also please do offer advice to those submitting teams.

I’ll be covering the Sky game throughout the season with weekly articles, as well as analysis on Man of the Match awards and other bonus data, to help guide your selections and tactics.

For a beginners guide to the Sky game I recommend reading this article by Buffrey, which outlines the key difference with the Fantasy Premier League as well as the basic rules and strategies.

In addition, in our Sky game launch article we also announced details of the Fantasy Football Scout league. This can be joined by using the code – 8300422.

To get the Rate My Team discussion started I have put together this very quick team, which is focused around the first three Gameweeks. This is because from Gameweek 4 Sky managers can use a new Overhaul feature (similar to FPL’s wildcard).  We will detail this new feature in upcoming articles.

Early on Southampton coverage looks important due to their strong early fixtures (SWA, WHM, hud). I’ve opted for full back Cedric, who looks to be nailed on to start and also offers attacking threat. Pre-season friendlies may help indicate if Jack Stephens at 6.5 is a viable cheap alternative.

Crystal Palace have good fixtures too (HUD, liv, SWA) which puts Wilfried Zaha and Joel Ward in the mix. The Eagles defender looks very cheap and has done well in the past for bonus points. Meanwhile, Zaha is a Man of the Match legend, earning the accolade on seven occasions last season.

I’ve opted for West Bromwich Albion’s Craig Dawson in defence, which is risky given they have started seasons slowly in the past and last season struggled for clean sheets. Nevertheless with a strong trio of early fixtures (BOU, bro, STO) I think he could do well and maybe nick a goal given his aerial prowess.

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho is tailor made for Sky. He earned nine MotM awards last term, did well for Shots on Target bonus and if he moves to a more central midfield role should also prosper in terms of Sky’s bonus for passing.

I have also gone for a punty double Bournemouth set up with Charlie Daniels and Junior Stanislas. I think the Cherries will have goals in them season long and home to Watford in Gameweek 2 looks tasty – both options seem pretty cheap to me.

Finally, I’ve gone for three big forwards who I  think will be very popular and offer me some safety in numbers. They also look good  for captain rotation through the first three Gameweeks.

Feel free to post your team in the comment section below, offer advice and also discuss any of the issues my selection has raised.

A plethora of option up top this season, would you want United cover i.e Lukaku in there?

      Depends on his price.

I have a hunch Lacazette will come in at £9-9.5m and I'd be willing to take a punt on him at that price.

I want Kane and think if Luka goes to Utd he'll be £10.5+m.

Kane is going to be this season's team determinator. If you want him you're going to have to budget your whole team around him.

I don't think it's vital at the start, since Arsenal, City & Liv options cover Man U captaincies. Wouldn't put anybody off having him tho.

I like this and I'm guessing you are gambling for a traditional
Slow Spurs start. Kane could hurt you, especially with 2 Sunday games for him to be a favourite captain. Like the team though.

Yep, Spurs fix aren't amazing 1-3 either plus the Wembley factor is an unknown. i like Eriksen's price though...

Would captain Laca, De Bruyne then Lukaku first weekend

      Like it

      Kaneless - any worries?

Francis is one to watch - hes 32 i think and Ake back means hes competing at RB with A Smith probably.

Huddersfield have good games but not sure Mooy will get bonus passing playing for them - maybe tackles

Thanks Dis, will monitor francis in pre-season. If he nails RB could be great value.

I see your point with Mooy, Huddersfield unlikely to have good possession. Potential for attacking returns though with set-pieces

I understand Hogg at 6.6 is a tackler in CM also Williams 6.7 both from Hud

Hojberg 7.4 if hes nailed is a great bonus player but we will have to see:

          Will Hughes 7.5?

Lots of cheap starters like Hayden etc but bonus wise not sure on them till we see first 3 weeks data

its why i plan to avoid bonus players until after overhaul

Ndidi didnt do that well bonus wise - check sky stabs tab in mmembers

I think Huddersfield in Jose first few games will still have a fair amount of possession. They seem to like to hold the ball. Naturally it will go down a bit from the championship but, for example, in the Huddersfield versus Newcastle home game last season Mooy made 80 accurate passes. Easily tier 3.

It's just that Utd have super first three fixtures and seem slightly easier to pick.

    Ok here's mine

Main issues are a lack of ManUtd - may opt to spend more for a defender for the opening three gwks. Also will try and get one of Pogba or Lukaku in.....KDB and Pedro will drop out then....although keen to keep a City option.

    Ryan
    Ward Dawson Daniels
    Henderson Zaha Pedro KDB Mooy
    Kane Lacazette

    Appreciate any thoughts.

      Yep looks good

Hendo will be in mine after WC if hes hitting same numbers

Not sure about Pedro - i know you like him but not in sky for me - Haz monopoly on MoTM and Fabregas if nailed great for bonus.

I so badly want KDB too but struggling to fit him in.

Lindelof looks best United option at present.

Reasoning behind Pedro is that strong initial fixture, ability to do well against most teams and with that first three in mind. Think he can get something v Spurs. Remember Hazard is out for those three fixtures with injury so someone has to get MotM...also think Pedro will step up those games. Agree though Haz is the main man long term.

Yes to Lindelof - looking at pre season for him.

Re KDB - he's cheaper than Jesus and involved. Should start...I prefer him to Jesus first three.

Not too different to mine, Ryan is very cheap but not sure you'll get much value out of him in the first 3 weeks. Will Hendo be fit?

Hendo fitnes permitting of course. Re Ryan he's a makeweight but apart from City first few are strong for Brighton. Long term I'm looking at Heaton again - very cheap or Pickford.

Here are my current first draft (I say first it's about 15th):-

    Ryan

    Ward / Nyom / Lowe

    Cout / Salah / pogba / xhaka / Zaha

    Kane / lacazette

Lacazette will become Jesus after Arsenal play stoke but before City play Everton.

They are all showing playing Saturday for Gameweek 2 in the Sky fixture list.

Also, I'd be grateful if you could explain why a transfer mid Gameweek works?

      1. buffrey
        • 11 Years
        6 years, 10 months ago

In my example above. I can get points for both the player leaving and the player coming in as they play on different days.

So I'll get points for lacazette versus stoke. And then I'll transfer to Jesus versus Everton and also get his points. Meaning gat transfer will get me 12 scoring players that week.

        Does that make sense?

Ok wow, so in theory you could have 12+ players in a Gameweek if you transfer out say Saturday's players to Sunday's players or is this for 'Captains' only which could still mean ca. 14 players in a Gameweek?

Transfer Fridays captain to a Saturday one to a Sunday, etc.

          1. buffrey
            • 11 Years
            6 years, 10 months ago

Only 5 transfers allowed per Gameweek but in theory you could use all those in week 1. Have 5 Arsenal players and then transfer than all to, say, Spurs players and have a week of 16 scoring players. So not just captains, anyone.

Worth considering tactically when making moves.

Yeah. In this draft. Don't fancy saints or wba and united too expensive. So it would be Huddersfield or no one. Still debating Huddersfield but feels a bit suicidal

Not even one of the Saints? Fixtures seem stunning. I was looking at a Dawson but should I stay clear of them?
Huddersfield do have nice fixtures but they're championship standard and probably the whipping boys.

First proper go at the Sky game this year, let me know what you think 🙂

    KDB / Mane / Zaha / Doucoure
    Kane / Lacazette

Not bad. Got some big names and captaincy coverage for TV games.

I'm worried personally that Cedric won't start the season due to confer cup but one to keep an eye on pre season. Also you may be able to get a nice mid for his price at the back and go 3-5-2.

      Good first draft though.

Not sure about Doucoure.....what's his price and can you get some cash elsewhere to improve on him?

Like the rest....goes well for the first three fixtures. You can wildcard after that..

....sorry, I meant 'overhaul' after that. 😉

      1. Jared Dunn
        • 8 Years

He comes in at 7.0. Could move some funds around to try and upgrade him to an 8.0-8.5 mid (...maybe Capoue who could make a great start again, especially with two home games in the first 3) or go 3-5-2 as Buffrey said.

Good that you like the rest, trying to take advantage in the first 3 then overhaul!

I've changed my team slightly from the above, I have question marks regarding some of my player(s). Those players are listed under my squad.

      M. Lowton. J. Ward. G. Cameron

Redmond: Southampton tend to make poor starts to the season, and I'm only really including him for cover for either Antonio (west Ham) or Klaassen (Everton)?

Never played past two GWs before 😀

Is my defence too light? I know you get more pts for a CS in this game...

U dont get more for cs. Keepers do.

Ur defence not too light at all although not sure Francis is 1st choice anymore.

Yeah Lanzini looks fantastic but not b4 WC for me

Thanks D1sable, I should probably have another read of the rules.

Good to know about the weight of the defence, literally had no idea. We'll have to monitor Francis pre-season then 🙂

Yeah, Lanzini was a bad idea. Maybe I should get Matic if he moves to United...

Thanks JR, should probably ditch Lanzini with those fixtures anyway. Back to the drawing board 🙂

    Kompany Lindelof Daniels Ward
    KDB Coutinho Stanislas JWP
    Kane Lacazette.

    Thoughts appreciated.

I feel like giving the sky game a real go this season, first draft...

    Foster
    Soares - Dawson - Daniels - Lowe
De Bryne - Mane - Ozil - Redmond
    Kane - Defoe

Any formations tend to work better in sky? I'm unsure if going four at the back is the right thing to do.

Captain coverage is good, love Defoe

3-5-2 or 3-4-3 work best overall over the seasons

      formation articles coming out soon

    Forster
    Cedric Francis Smith
    Coutinho Ramsey Zaha Stanislas Cesc/Pedro
    Sanchez/Lacazette Aguero/Jesus

Plan on moving both strikers to Kane and Lukaku for the Sunday and then hopefully holding until gw4. Possibly may move out Pedro/Cesc after the first game too, but wary on wasting transfers.

Hoping to keep up interest the whole season this time!

Looks good dude and yep a good start is key

First evening's draft (starting to do my head in)

    Forster
    Nyom, J. Ward, Dawson
    Coutinho, Fraser, Fabregas, Gueye, KdB
    Lukaku, Lacazette

Doesn't leave an easy route into Kane though. Might have to change Fraser for Mooy, or even someone like Will Hughes if he looks likely to start, or possibly Nyom for Stephens or Pied. Probably wouldn't look at Kane for a couple of GWs though. Any thoughts on any of this please?

U plan to capt fabregas away to Spurs on 20/08 ?

its a 16:00 kick off so no line ups and hes not nailed either

I would plan with your captains in mind for each matchday then build team around them

Players look good in your team though, not a fan of Fraser when Stanislas King Defoe Arter all offer something extra imo

First draft. First time playing fwiw.

    Lossl/Ryan(?)
    Stephens - Dawson - Ward
    KDB - Pogba - Coutinho - Stanislas - Mooy
    Kane - Lacazette

    Team structure Ok?
Which of those keepers would be the better pick and why?
Any better cheaper than Mooy for the first 3?

Have tweaked. Realised that Forster is massive value compared to VvD/Bertrand..!

Sanchez Fri (c), Jesus Sat (c), transfer will be used for a Sunday (c).

    Forster
    Dawson Maguire Mawson
    Sane Pedro Salah Knockeart Stanislas
    Sanchez(c) Jesus

Scrap that Jesus is now Lukaku!

      Sanchez>Jesus>Kane opening transfers.

Nice, team, though no Spurs players a risk. Knockeart might not be that good an option, according to my lifelong Brighton fan mate.

      Yep nice team

Not sure you need Lanzini for first 3 - great player though at his price this season though i think.

I would consider maybe Lindlof in for him - Surely United keep 1 CS or more in first 3?
