Introducing – Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football

Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football as our brand new partner game for the 2017/18 season.

While this may be a new game to many of you, Yahoo is, of course, a hugely well-known and trusted name. They were also one of the first to pioneer an online Fantasy Football game, with their season-long game one of the most engaging around.

Now Yahoo have returned with a daily Fantasy sports offering that we will be covering throughout the season.

That also means we will be able to present you with some fantastic offers, including a huge free-to-play half-season tournament with over £40,000 in prizes and perhaps even the chance to win £1 million. No, really. More on that later this week.

Yahoo are also providing a superb introductory offer for our visitors whereby, if you deposit £5, you’ll get a free £50 credited to your account. See the foot of this article for details on how to sign up and get started.

What is Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football?

If you’ve played any daily Fantasy Football or “DFS” games before, you will be instantly familiar with the concept of the Yahoo game.

You have £200 million to build a team of 11 players that you can enter in a variety of contests that are either free to play or have an entry fee with cash prizes on offer.

Each player has a value assigned which changes week-to-week based on their performance and popularity in the previous Gameweek.

The scoring system is more detailed than both Fantasy Premier League and Sky Sports – but that’s a good thing. Based on Opta data, the scoring brings a wider range of players into the mix, including those often-neglected defensive midfielders.

We will have an in-depth article, examining the nuances of the scoring system, very soon.

Yahoo’s contests allow you to tinker with your line-ups right up until kick-off, so you can monitor teamsheets and use the “late swap” feature to swoop for bargains and remove absent players.

Week to week, we will be bringing you our Yahoo Focus articles to help steer the nucleus of your XI for the weekend contests.

Why Should I play?

While so much of the Yahoo game is familiar and easy to grasp, it’s very different in a number of key ways – not least because it is very friendly for new players.

The game operates a “Fair Play” policy, with many of their contests allowing just a single-team entry, while others allow only up to ten teams per user. This levels the playing field and increases the chances that new players can compete for prizes.

There are also “no veterans” or “rookie only” contests which allow you to play and learn the game before taking on experienced managers in bigger contests. However, if you become a seasoned player, you can, of course, take part in contests that allow 50+ teams.

As mentioned, the scoring system is also finely balanced and perfectly suited to our visitors.

We are all familiar with Opta data and, if you’ve got yourself a Fantasy Football scout membership, you already have access to statistics and tools to help you select teams in the Yahoo game. We’re even building custom tables and will be implementing player prices into those tables in the coming weeks.

The Yahoo game is also fully localised for a UK audience. That may sound like a small thing but, with other daily games talking in dollars and asking you to build “rosters”, it’s nonetheless a welcome touch.

The other main reason to play is that the game has a huge range of contests for all players. There are free-to-play games, contests with entry fees as small as 25p right up to £1,000 for the high rollers.

You can register now and compete in the Gameweek 1 £10k contest that offers a £2k top prize for a £5 entry fee.

How Do I Start?

Yahoo’s Gameweek 1 contests are up and running so you can register an account and get started immediately.

As mentioned, if you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used in-game.

  • Register here
  • Deposit £5 or more and use the code FANTASY50 to claim your £50 credit
  • Choose a contest and start selecting your first Yahoo squad.

Later this week we will bring you news of the huge Fantasy Football Scout Yahoo Cup contest, which is free to play and with £50k in prizes.

Look out for details of that and further articles on the Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football game to come before August 11.

You must be over 18 years of age, resident in the UK, and of legal capacity to register with Yahoo Daily Sports and open an Account. If you sign up, please always play responsibly.

Please let me know, how bad is this?

    de Gea (Elliot)
    Alonso, Kolasinac, Alex-Arnold (Suttner, Hudson)
de Bruyne, Mané, Ward-Prowse, Milivojevic (Carroll)
    Lukaku, Jesus, Defoe

Upgrade Alex-Arnold and Ward-Prowse to Yoshida and Tadic by downgrading Defoe to Austin?

It’s obviously a risk going without Spurs, but I think both de Bruyne and Mané will outscore the Spurs midfielders. And I don’t think Kane is worth £1.0 more than Lukaku since the latter has better fixtures.

    Thanks,

If you're third striker is Defoe and you're third mid is JWP then you should probably think again.

I just think over priced and question marks. Will he be on pens? Will he start every game? Granted he will do decent. But for 8m i want guarantees

I've always been an advocate of 3-5-2 - tempted to continue and swap Defoe & McArthur to Zaha & Abrahams. What do you think?

Yeah, it's tempting. Although Defoe could/should be on pens for Bournemouth, and I've already decided on Benteke so not keen to double up.

Perhaps pick a £4.0 defender with lower ownership to avoid price loss?

And what about finding £0.5 to upgrade Alli to de Bruyne? Foster or Hart to Elliot, for instance.

Other than that it looks good. You think Benteke will have score more this season?

        Cheers, mate.

Personally, I prefer Alli over De Bruyne — he's the new Lampard (goal scoring midfielder) for me.

I think Benteke will be around the 15 goal mark for the season. Mainly have him for the opening fixtures because Huddersfields defence is dreadful and Benteke loves scoring against Liverpool with 6 goals in 7 games against them, and 5 goals in 3 aways games at Anfield.

Hernandez is a risk. Has he played any preseason for the Hammers?

Milivojevic and Carroll are quite weak midfield options, despite the possibility of Mili on pens and Carroll on set-pieces. The main problem is you have no flexibility for a single transfer.

I like the Kompany pick if he can stay fit. I think City will be start the season really strong again like last year and Kompany helps organise the defence.

        • 8 Years

Good point on flexibility for a single transfer. Chicharito to Jay Rod and upgrade Mili the best option you think?

Who would be the best 4.5 defenders?

Mee is probably the best 4.5m defender. The first couple of gameweeks usually reveal the best cheapies. I always avoid risks on the opening day.

Not keen on Jrod myself. Never been the same since that serious injury he suffered a couple of seasons back. I probably go Abraham (5.5) and upgrade carroll to Ritchie (6.0) and on set pieces for Newcastle. The Geordies will be a good side this season. Benitez is a top manager.

There were times last year that Alli was more advanced than Kane.
Possible times this year Rashford could be more advanced than Lukaku.
Lazacette is a 'centre forward' as much as Lukaku and Kane are.

To be fair, a sh*t defence is what makes a good keeper choice as they have the possibility to make lots of saves. Heaton never kept the most clean sheets. He made saves, which also helps attract bonus points.

I'm probably the only player here who is not wholly convinced on Lukaku. Two reasons why:
    1. Lukaku had a terrible away record for Everton. His goal splurges came at Goodison. He was your classic homebird.
    2. Yes, Utd have I think 4 home games in the first 7, but do you really think that we will make a marked improvement so early on last season's horrendous home form? 0-0 draws galore. Ibra's goals mainly came away from home. If I remember correctly his only game at OT where he got more than 1 was versus Blunderland.

We (Utd fan) have an improved attack yes, but it's still very much a work in progress, now with a tactical shift to get used to with Pogba moving forward in particular.

TLDR: Lukaku is not necessarily essential by any means.

Kane managed 12 away with 7 in last 2. Everton were terrible away whereas United did decently away.

Fair enough, although Kane played less games. No doubt he will score, but Jesus at 1m cheaper, Laca at 1m cheaper are better options.

Whether or not you think he will do well, you still have to admit with 50% of FPL players backing him it is probably the biggest risk in the game going without him.

United created loads of chances but lacked someone to put them away. Remains to be seen if Lukaku can be that man but he's as good a bet as any.

Some different picks like JWP and Gayle which I have considered. Ake may have the attacking threat but He would want to improve than defence a lot and fixtures turn bad real quick.
Pogba needs to show more and the utd attack before I would double up.
Good balance overall thoughts above just my preferences.

      Fraser or Ritchie?

Fraser's become pretty popular on here due to looking good so far in pre season.

Ritchie got good returns for Bournemouth in 15/16 and Newcastle's fixtures aren't bad after GW1 vs Spurs.

What is Fixture Difficulty Rank (FDR)?

The Fixture Difficulty Rank (FDR) is based on a complex algorithm developed by Fantasy Premier League experts. A set of formulas process key Opta data variables, along with each team’s home and away form (past six matches), in order to generate a rank for the perceived difficulty of each Gameweek opponent. The FDR is designed to help FPL managers plan their transfer and team selection strategy and is reviewed on a weekly basis.

Personally I think going with all of Lukaku, Kane, De Bruyne, Coutinho is putting most of your eggs in one basket. If those three don't come firing out of the blocks you're then relying on Redmond, Puncheon, Gayle to hit some points.

I've decided to only go for one of the 10m+ players at the start, and try to get a few more big hitters...

      My thinking is...
1 x 10m+ = Lukaku - gives me flexibility to swap for Aguero or other
      2 x 9m+ = Salah, Alli - goal scoring midfielders
Benteke, Defoe, Ritchie, Willian, Alonso - all mid priced but potential big scorers with most taking set-pieces for their clubs.

          All three are good shouts.

Personally, I'd keep one and downgrade the others so that you can more evenly distribute funds. I think this is the year of the wingback. Alonso scored well last season and I fully expect him to be hitting 180 points again this season with more game time. He's been firing goals and assists in pre season.

Milner, if he starts, has huge potential now that he's been re-classified as a defender. He scored well last season, but now he'll get 4 points for a clean sheet and his goals (penalties) will be worth an extra point too.

Looks solid. Not too keen on Firmino in the striker position though, he won't score enough compared with other genuine strikers.

Have a look at Benteke maybe? Early fixtures are good, but take a bad turn GW6. So probably a short term pick.

      Yes. Decent side.

Austin is probably the only risk as to whether he'll start or not. If he starts, he should be amongst the goals.

Morata is a huge risk only worth taking if your Chelsea fan imo. I'd rather play the fixtures and go for Benteke with a view to monitoring how Morata adapts to his new team, language, league.

Ozil is a good shout. JWP and Ake are both a leap of faith for GW1.

      Yoshida is a dreadful pick.

No. If he's not firing on all cylinders, he'll be the first to be subbed off for Mata or Lingard. Similar situation to Willian. When he plays, he'll get points. But he won't get the full 90 minutes, and will be rotated over the season.
