The Numbers Game – Watford

Our series of summer members’ articles continues this afternoon as we assess what’s on offer at the managerial merry-go-round that is Watford.

To begin with, we analyse the Hornets’ performances on a team level, checking out last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas of improvement. Following that, we take a look at the players to pinpoint their key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on new manager Marco Silva’s impact on his former club Hull City after an impressive stint at the KCOM Stadidum during the second half of 2016/17.

Watford parted company with Quique Sanchez Flores at the end of 2015/16, scoring 40 times on their way to finishing in thirteenth spot on 45 points.

Yet the now-departed Walter Mazzarri failed to improve upon those performances in his only season at the helm. The Vicarage Road outfit scored the same number of goals but picked up just 40 points, ending the campaign in seventeenth position.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

If Coutinho leaves do we think ...

    A) Salah / Mané not as good value so avoid

    B) Salah / Mané more chance of point

    C) maybe just stick with Wilnadjum instead

Tempted with 5.5mn Mancity defender in guise of Oatamendi/Stones? Is any of them nailed?
Or best go with Kompany for 0.5mn more?

Stones more nailed than Otamendi. But Kompany most nailed albeit injury prone.

Anyone else looking to go for 3 5.0 reds?

Trying to find a third defender to go with Cedric / Ake is tough.

Dawson looking the best with his goal threat. I imagine Brom will be puss though.

    Hello all

Been fiddling with my team and have arrived at this:

    Foster/Fab
    Yoshida/Kolasinic/Francis/Naughton/Cameron
    Pogba/Atsu/TC/KDB/Salah
    Kane/Lukaku/Mounie

    Any thoughts?

  16. Lebowski85

    6 years, 10 months ago

    01:30......this happened.

    Begovic
    Walker / Kolasinic / Bertrand
    Kdb / Mane / Ritchie / Fraser / Carroll
    Kane / Lukaku / JRod

For me, it's bang on now. All the major price points covered in each position, besides 7mil mid, but I've never liked that price. I'm rolling with Walker over Valencia because I want double city. Mane over Salah is a worry but im covered to get in Eriksen/Ali now. JRod is budget, but worth a punt. Can always bring in Mounie or Tammy if they shine.

    Thoughts?

Maybe because he plays for City and the people forming the prices predicted a good season for him.

        • 8 Years
        6 years, 10 months ago

I see their reasoning though. You have to assume he was bought to be a starter and towers must think this is his year. Seems they might have been right so I think 5.5 is a fair price if you compare him to the other defenders.

      3. Lebowski85

Stones is actually a top player but he had the misfortune of Martinez coaching him and now Peps whacky tactics. Alongside Kompany he will flourish.

People got burned by him because they pinned their DGW hopes on a player with games coming thick and fast, playing in a team firmly in mid-table with nothing left to play for, and under a manager clearly on his way out.
I think he'll do well early on with those fixtures.

Looking forward to watching all of the fickle turncoats jump on him after a couple of goals, despite calling him a troll only a week or two previously.
