The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 3 – Sunday

This was meant to be the day that would see talent from the north London clubs cause tremors in the Fantasy Premier League ranks and market place. Instead, both Spurs and Arsenal fell flat – to varying degrees of disaster.

Harry Kane had the opportunity to transform the Fantasy Football landscape. Not only could he have buried the August goal hoodoo, but he could also have delivered points for the 16.1% who captained him to capitalise on the failings of others – including Romelu Lukaku’s zero point score.

Once again he blanked. Once again the numbers he produced defied belief.

Kane had ten attempts on goal, seven from inside the box. For the second match running, he has surpassed his personal record for the number of shots in a single Premier League match without scoring.

This season Kane has fired just 25% of his efforts on target with a zero conversion rate. His rates for both in 2016/17 were 52% and 26% respectively.

According to certain statistical models, he should have 2.5 goals by now. But he hasn’t. He’s got nothing, and he’s being ushered out of FPL squads at a pace.

To compound matters, both Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata and Roberto Firmino of Liverpool provided goal and assist returns with maximum bonus to overtake Lukaku in the forward standings.

They provide an obvious exit route for those left feeling decidedly uneasy about Kane’s extraordinary three-match drought.

Dismissing talk of the August “curse”, there is perhaps another reason behind this sorry spell: maybe Spurs really are destined to struggle at Wembley.

We have just two “home” matches to go on – the first against the champions Chelsea, while it should also be noted that Spurs only edged out Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane last season.

However, there is building momentum behind the theory that Mauricio Pochettino’s men could lack intensity and that sides will raise their game on visiting Wembley.

With Swansea City and Bournemouth the next two opponents due to arrive, we will surely have more evidence soon. Falter against that pair, and our confidence in Kane and Spurs’ other key assets – Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli – will plummet.

While it’s a testing trip to Everton to come next, those forthcoming home fixtures, coupled with the unfeasible and record-breaking numbers – may convince many Kane owners to sit on their hands, even when faced with cheaper and more profitable temptations.

Spurs toiled, but their suffering pales in significance next to the cataclysmic display delivered by Arsenal at Anfield.

Like Kane, Alexis Sanchez had the opportunity to put Fantasy managers in a spin. Instead, he played a 60-minute role in a farcical Gunners performance which may actually transpire to be his last for the club.

It remains to be seen if Sanchez stays in the Premier League to be a factor in our season. For now, he played his part in making Liverpool’s attacking assets seem irresistible, as the aforementioned Firmino pulled the strings for both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to step up with further hauls.

It appears that there is still one thing we can all rely on as Fantasy managers: Liverpool will present us with the dilemma of putting many attacking eggs in a single basket.

With Kane – our most bankable scorer currently defying all odds to misfire – perhaps we should just embrace that “problem”.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just a remainder fellas before confirming anything tonight. IB time, lots of fixtures to be played and some very far from home. Especially Brazilians might be very late. Also injuries happen quickly.

Would playing Jesus and Kompany with no Liverpool player be too bold? Certainly will swing it either way since everybody jumping on Liv-attackers now?

Of all the things that frustrates me about Arsenal, it's the relentless BS from the Arsenal hierarchy. Pretending that this was to be a watershed moment, making only one big signing due to Athletico's embargo and then having the cheek to pretend they're going for Mbappe and Lemar... These fans are paying a fortune to to follow the club. Some transparency would go a long way.

      Eriksen - Salah - Mkhitaryan - Redmond - Loftus-Cheek

You should save because I don't see any moves you could make with 1 FT to upgrade your squad. May be Redmond to Fabregas but that's it. That 0.1m is so crucial right? Could have upgraded useless Benteke.

Anyone else find Morata's emergence curiously strange? Lot's of hype, but looked very unfit in pre season (I know, I know). Emerges with a haul during a cameo in Chelsea's opening meltdown, was quiet at Wembley before now rising like a phoenix?

He looks good tbh, all of Chelsea do. Better then I thought they would anyway

Kane & Mounie ---> Firmino & Morata (-4) worth it or no?

      Lukaku + jesus to -->

      A) Lacazette (now) + kane (gw5)

      B) Morata (now) + kane (gw5)

      C) Keep jesus

      D) Keep Kaku

      E) Keep both

I really like option A in terms of fixtures and armband rotation between kane and laca. Morata seems more consistent, but I dont fancy chelseas fixture and he is not a viable captain option because he doesnt rotate well with Kane. What do you guys think? Give laca a go? I have 2 ft and can easily get him out next week.. No concerns regarding the rest of the team of team.

Because of the incoming fixtures.. Spurs have great fixtures.. Manu less appealing from gw5.. And Im not confident in capping Kaku (stoke away) nor Jesus (LIV home).

Im anyway im in no rush.. Both laca and kane are being transferred out and jesus is being transferred in.. Hoping for a jesus rise and a drop on laca and kane

      Pre-WC player points: 65
      Post-WC player points: 40
      Bench points: 25

What did I do and who do I have to apologize to...?

'Gambled' for Kane(c) by ditching Firmino and Salah who I thought were rotation risks. Double Sot'n clean sheets given up for Davies who lost 7 points at the end and Mooy blank. Also stung by Jesus.

It felt like a lot of transfers I was happy with, although I knew I should try and hold it. I had 2 players dropping and 3 to get in who were rising so I felt like I had to; wasn't as simple as just 0.2 or 0.3.

How does this look for a WC team?

      Foster (Heaton)
      Alonso Valencia Davies (Schindler) (Long)
      Eriksen Salah Pogba Mooy (Carroll)
      Lukaku Firmino Chicharito

      Any advice would be appreciated

        I'd have a 4m keeper, Mbemba as my 5th.

Personally I wouldn't spend as much in defence and I'd want Kane.

Exact funds for Gabbiadini > Firmino, my only real concerns are him and Willian. Do I take a -4?

Could Mikhi and Pogba cover Kaku points? Could would mean I could get a front three of Kane Morata and Firmino.

Nope they haven't, Kane will get going though and even though Lukaku has obviously scored more, Kane looks so much involved in games
