Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 4 – Monday

Slaven Bilic relieves the pressure as he turns to a three-man defence, big Andy Carroll and an emphasis on crosses against a stubborn Huddersfield Town. A fortunate deflection sets them on their way, as the popular Chicharito fails to stem a tide of Fantasy sales.

Chicharito blanks in Carroll return

Owned by an army of 1.4 million Fantasy Premier League managers (27.7%), Chicharito was also burdened with the responsibility of 164,000 captaincy picks.

With Carroll returning to make a first start since April, he was very much playing off the big striker, with the Geordie the focal point of the Hammers attack down the middle.

But Chicharito had his opportunity – a first half effort which clipped the crossbar, one of only two touches in the box he enjoyed all evening.

More worryingly, it was the Mexican rather than the battle-weary Carroll who made way first, hooked on 63 minutes.

Shifted by 164,000 heading in Gameweek 4 and another 50,000 before he even kicked a ball last night, Chicharito’s sales now look likely to pick up pace.

His role could change to living off the knockdowns and scraps if the Hammers look to an aerial threat as a priority.

With Andre Ayew replacing him to score and assist, plus the return of Marko Arnautovic and Manuel Lanzini perhaps forcing a change of shape, there could even be mounting concerns on Chicharito’s minutes while Carroll remains available.

Doubts over his prospects come as a blow, given the current dearth of viable forward options around the 7.0 price tag.

Cresswell dominates set plays

While Michail Antonio was the most effective and eye-catching attacker on show at the London Stadium, Fantasy managers should also note the role played by Aaron Cresswell throughout.

Deployed as a wing-back in Slaven Bilic’s 3-4-2-1, Cresswell hogged set-pieces right and left and ended the match with 19 crosses – more than any other player in Gameweek 4.

Of course, this might not continue.

Arnautovic has now served out his ban and will surely be a factor on dead balls in the Gameweek 5 trip to West Brom.

Lanzini will be another protagonist at set-plays, although his return date remains uncertain as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Mendy or Walker?

Also, is this Chupo Moting fella first choice for Stoke? If so looks an absolute bargain....

      Mendy

Better final ball and left wing back is always preferred over right for some reason. Alonso, Davies, Kolasinac for example.

I would say CM is now nailed, played 90 minutes the last 3 games and only competition is Berahino, who hasn't scored a goal in years.

Also WC'ing not finished tinkering yet. What needs to change?

    Foster, Elliot
    Jones, Cedric, Mee, Dunk, Mbemba
    Hazard, Alli, Pogba, Choupo-Moting, Carroll
    Kane, Lukaku, Vokes

    Happy with the keepers
Better options for the money in defence?
Had Pogba since the start so he is a default pick over Mikhi etc.

    Better options than Vokes?

Hazard's going to need time I'd have thought, and I'd rather have Eriksen out of any mid going - especially with the fixtures.

I think if you're going Kane + Lukaku it needs to be 442/352.

this is my concern. I feel that he is a great diff, and it might be tricky to get him in due to his price if I go for another pick. Eriksen is very tempting though

Ward is nailed and has already scored, yes, but Mee's stats suggest he may be a better option going forward. Think he's been having quiet a few touches in the box and goal attempts. If Mee drops to £4.4m before the deadline then it's a total no-brainer.

I think De Bruyne is too expensive given the risk of him playing too far back.

Jesus is a good bet, but as we saw last week his minutes might be managed.

Very difficult choice. In my opinion only Jesus or Mendy should be taken into consideration. Almost everybody there will be rotated. In theory KdB is option, however with Pep you will never know where he will play. Also you will never captain him.

Carroll due to his PL pedigree and surrounding cast
Wood due to his finishing ability, however he plays for team with limited potential in offence,
Hemed due to his price, however he also plays for team with limited potential in offence,

Mkhi and Pogba don't affect Lukaku's points.

If all three get points, then having all three is better than having just two. So it's just a question of whether Lukaku or the player you're replacing him with scores more.

do the 4.4 mids even play? ideally you want autosubs to come in for 2-3 pointer anything else is a bonus.

not concerned over only 1 starting keeper? Newcastle keepers do have a nasty habit of getting injured.

Anyone fancy giving advice on my WC?

      Foster - Elliot
      Kolasinac - Cedric - Davies - Lascelles - Rosenoir
      Ritchie - Salah - Pogba - Alli - Carroll
      Jesus - Lukaku - Chicharito

Is Alli -> Eriksen on a FT too sidewards of a move? I own Kane.

Leaned towards Alli due to his suspension in UCL but can't help but worry given Eriksen's red hot form for club and country.

      Sell or keep?

Keep Alli. He doesn't play in the CL and therefore his minutes are assured in the PL

Is this Montig and Gross a knee jerk move ??? Or are they both quality players worthy punting on

Moting is known from his Bundesliga days to score/assist in a few games in a row and then go seven without doing anything. Potential is there and with Jese and Shaqiri it's a pretty exciting front three for Stoke. Gross has some set pieces but their expected goals are so low that I would like to see more.

Tough call. Moting will be playing as a striker for Stoke, is £5.5 so is well worth a punt but could easily just have had a rare game where he goes mad.

      Guys help please,

What can I do with this mess? We expecting yoshida back?

      Foster | Elliott
      Yoshida | Kola | Jones | TAA | Rangel
      Mky | Willian | Mane | Ramsey | Carrol
      Lukaku | Kane | quaner

      1 FT 2.2 in bank
      a) WC (Guess need to rid Mane TAA Willian Yoshida and Quaner)
      b) Mane to Erikson/KDB/Salah
      c) Mane and quaner to Jesus and 5.8 mid ?
      d) other

      Thank you for your time

Not a fan of rushing into the wildcard (epec when we don't know e.g. what the plans are for Yoshida; whether Willian will feature now Haz back) so would go for c). Mane and Quaner --> Jesus and Choupo-Moting?

        ----
        Any views on mine?

        Forster Elliot
        Bertrand Kola Mee Suttner Britos
        KDB Pogba Willian Ritchie Carrol
        Lukaku Lacazette Firmino

2FT and 0itb. Need to get rid of Britos really but am set (maybe too set?!) on Cresswell as his replacement so would need to sell one midfielder too.

Do I need to get rid of Willian now (and if so to who at max 6.5m? Choupo-Moting?) ... or is Ritchie --> Gross the most sensible way to free up that 5.5m? Longer term plan is probably to downgrade Bert.

Not with the performances he's putting out. Him and Aguero are forming a good partnership.

I'd say it's a good sign, even though it could become a trend. Game was won and it increases the chance of starting more games.

Pep didn't captain him in FPL so he decided that 12 points would be enough this time.

I think Pogba > Mkhi if you don't have Lukaku.

Because Mkhi gets assists but those assists will likely be for Lukaku
