The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 8

Manchester City are threatening to break Fantasy Football.

An irresistible attacking force, they appear to be capable of skittling any defence that stands in their way and, in doing so, they are presenting Fantasy managers with an extraordinary array of options.

The challenge, of course, is to exploit their incredible form to the full. This becomes a more thankless task with the passing of each and every Gameweek.

Today’s 7-2 victory over a shell-shocked Stoke City took Pep Guardiola’s side to a total of 17 goals from their last three home matches and 24 from the last five Gameweeks.

I had to go back and re-check those numbers, leaving me wonder if we’ve ever seen a single team provide such a relentless avalanche of Fantasy points.

The underlying statistics are even more staggering.

A tally of 103 shots, 73 of which have arrived in the box with 28 big chances. Guardiola’s side have fired a shot every 4.6 minutes over the past five Gameweeks.

Three City players scored double figures in today’s victory, with Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva also fetching nine and seven points respectively. And this without Sergio Aguero in the mix.

Indeed, the array of choice available has become bewildering.

Raheem Sterling’s 15-points surely underlines his potential during this, his most prolific spell of his career. The “winger” has now scored six goals and supplied two assists over five starts in the last six Gameweeks.

Sterling has been in Guardiola’s starting line-up each time when available from Gameweek 3 onwards and, priced at just 8.0; he surely justifies his rank at the top of our midfield Watchlist. He is already the top transfer target ahead of Gameweek 9’s visit from Burnley.

Then there is Sane.

Perhaps a more traditional wide player, less inclined to tuck inside to flank the central striker, the German has produced four goals and three assists from the last five Gameweeks. However, he has only made the starting line-up over the last three.

De Bruyne and Silva remain the creators. Less explosive, they are nonetheless consistent points scorers that also scream for our attention. The latter struck his first goal of the season today, while De Bruyne chalked up a fifth assist.

It’s difficult to separate the pair, but Silva’s price, at 1.5 cheaper, is surely a key factor. Crucially, as today’s goal indicated, the Spaniard also appears to have upped his direct threat to opponents, adding a new convincing string to his creative bow.

These are just the standout midfield offerings. When we start to contemplate the situation up front, our decision process becomes even more cloudy.

Gabriel Jesus reacted to Sergio Aguero’s return from injury with a brace and a 13-point return today. We now have to consider how Guardiola will marry the pair.

He will surely want to avoid disrupting the almost perfect blend he has discovered, and neither Sane nor Sterling can really warrant exclusion.

Could that lead to Guardiola rotating his two central strikers, or will he revert back to pairing them in attack, sacrificing one of his support attackers?

Jesus owners will be counting today’s points but also looking ahead to the Gameweek 9 meeting with Burnley and wondering Pep’s next move.

But surely we have to question whether Jesus and Aguero warrant our investment regardless.

Even if their minutes are managed from here on, while City’s thirst for goals remains unquenchable, perhaps we just can’t lose.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Any early suggestions?

    Fabianski - (Elliot)
Otamendi - Monreal - Davies - (Mbemba)- (Ward)
    Coutinho - Hazard - Silva - (Cork) - King
    Kane - Kaku(C) - Joselu

Is it alright to save the FT to do 3 hit for -4 next week?

Anyone familiar with the price change rules in Fantasy Champions League? Apparently prices will change after this coming gameweek - does that mean they change before we're allowed to make any transfers? And if so, does it make sense to wildcard now to get some in-form players that would probably rise?

I'm thinking of having Kun and Morata and ditching Kane. Better value with Morata by far, Morata could even outscore him, and Kun is a gift at 11.5.

Looking at the team you can have without Kane and still 1.4 ITB which I should use for keeper and or bench upgrades. What ye think of this?

    Elliot (Pereira)

    Alonso Davies Jones Cedric

Eriksen Sterling Sane ( Tarrol A.King)

    Kun Morata Vardy

I don't normally ask for opinions on my full team but I would appreciate some early thoughts now as my judgement may be too clouded from a horrid GW.

    What would you do?

    Elliot
    Kolasinac - Davies - Lascelles
    Hazard - Salah - Ramsey - Richarlison - Choupo-Moting
    Kane - Lukaku

    (Krul, Ayew, Martina, Mbemba)

Ramsey yes, I agree. I need to find some extra 0.2-0.3 to turn him into Sterling potentially. More for Silva.

Kolasinac - well, 4 clean sheets in 5, Swansea next. Looks good still, though I'm open to downgrading to spend funds elsewhere.

You were not happy with moves you made last week. And you were right but can be fixed fairly painlessly 🙂
I would say get a City mid in it may have to be Salah to go but then pool have nice fixtures on the horizon.

      After that Lukaku >Kun

Also hope Haz does well when Morata is back but eventually you will need to lose Haz for Morata.

      1. Pierce34
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 7 months ago

Thanks, appreciate the thoughts. Even with the temptation to do rage transfers, I'm not knee-jerking Lukaku out before Huddersfield. Yeah, Lukaku to Kun after that sounds good.

The Salah decision will have to be very difficult, I'd want him back if I sold him...

Hazard - agreed, Morata was always the one I wanted and of course I'm kicking myself for not getting Jesus in the first place (not just this week, but last week for Aguero too). But I feel I have to give him Watford at home, Hazard isn't the type of player for a one-week punt.

I guess what I'm saying is - I want City, but I don't know how exactly! Ramsey to Sterling/Silva if I had the cash...

If you want to go Ramsey > City mid
Would take a -4 this week to do it?
Would a bench player downgrade be enough?

It not like both Kaku and Kane are not good options while you take sometime to get Kun and or Morata

          1. Pierce34
            • 8 Years
            6 years, 7 months ago

Thanks, I'm almost certainly taking a -4 I think. I guess Ayew to 4.5 gives me an extra 0.5 - just enough to do Ramsey to Sterling. Just have to hope my bench is not needed because Ayew turned out to be the unexpected star of my team, haha.

What worries me is if Jesus is rested midweek, in which case he'll look essential.

    Early ideas on this team?

    Fab Elliot
    Otamendi Luiz Ward Cedric Davies
    Hazard Sterling Richo Carroll RLC
    Kane Vardy Jesus

    1 FT, 0.1 in bank.

Not happy with the structure and City combo as it makes it harder to get 3 attackers if I choose to.

    Cheers in advance.

Davies and Jesus might be issues especially if Jesus starts cl,I'd expect him to start on the bench against Burnley
      You cant Upgrade to Kun.

      Probably
      Get Morata
Or Save ft and Get Kun by downgrading Davies next week!

Nope it's hard to see where.
Attack could do with more City but who do you want to sacrifice? It's a hard call.

    Elliot
    Jones, Maguire, Cedric, Lascelles
    Eriksen, Salah, Sterling
    Kane, Jesus, Vardy

    Foster; Naughton, Brady, Chalobah.

Good enough to save transfer? Could get rid of Brady but I feel I have good enough fixtures in my defence to bench him this week. Only other decision is whether to double on Newcastle against Palace or play Naughton.

Plenty with Jones or Carrol to autosub too...
If things don't go right tomorrow I think I'm in danger of being out currently on 32 (-4)

    Repost. Bottomed.

When I have a good gameweek and post a great score, I hide my light under a bushel. I never STRUTT and BRAGG of act all smug on here or on Social media. If you are double the average this week, please be respectful of those fantasy managers who are hurting and who have had a disastrous gameweek. It's just painful to see those with a big score get out their chipolata and slap it down on the table.

The only thing that matters is your GW38 rank in the end. Having one great GW in 38 doesn't make a summer.

Hey guys, I've got 2 City attackers (Jesus and Silva) and only 1 Liverpool attacker (Salah) in my front 8. Should I:
    A) Transfer Salah -> Sterling for free and triple up on City
    B) Hold my FT

Salah is worth holding onto, guaranteed more minutes and arguably the biggest threat liverpool have going forward.

GW 8 captaincy for live teams: Kane 37.8% Lukaku 23.3% Jesus 7.7%

Thankfully for me Jesus(c) is that low but still likely to be a red arrow week for me...
