Captain Sensible – Gameweek 9

With just a couple of hours left until Friday’s 7pm deadline, it’s time for our pre-Gameweek members article, offering insight on the armband conundrum for the upcoming round of fixtures.

First up, we assess the main players in this week’s Captain Poll. After that, we turn to the Opta numbers and check up on the Rate My Team ratings before considering a couple of differential options in light of the data analysis.

The Captain Poll

Man City’s relentless attack understandably dominates our Gameweek 9 Captain Poll as Burnley make their way to the Etihad.

Gabriel Jesus sits at the summit for the first time this season on the back of six goals and an assist in his previous five league fixtures.

Over 22% are backing the Brazilian to maintain that form after he also netted against Napoli in midweek.

Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero also find a spot in our top four.

Sterling (11%) is the most bought player in the Gameweek (260,00+) after serving up six goals and two assists in his last six league appearances.

He also scored in midweek but, unlike Jesus, was subbed off midway through the second-half, which perhaps strengthens his chances of pitch time against the Clarets.

Aguero (9%), meanwhile, has warmed the City bench in back-to-back matches since recovering from injury.

He needs just one goal to equal the club’s all-time goal scoring record and looks very likely to return to the teamsheet at home to Sean Dyche’s troops.

Romelu Lukaku claims the runners-up spot with 21% backing as Man United travel to a Huddersfield Town side that conceded four against Spurs in their last home fixture.

The Red Devils’ striker is immune to rotation right now and has found the net in three of his four away appearances.

Lukaku is likely to be the number one choice by Fantasy Premier League managers, too – he was the top pick in the first seven Gameweeks and second last time out.

But Spurs’ head-to-head with Liverpool at Wembley means that Harry Kane earns only 8% backing.

Blanks in all four league fixtures at Wembley have hardly helped his cause, though he’s up against a defence that’s conceded 11 times on their travels – no side has shipped more.

Chelsea pair Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard and are shaping up as differentials with just 5% of the votes cast.

Back in contention against Roma on Wednesday, Morata has six goals and two assists in seven and has hit double-digits in two of his four home appearances.

Hazard – who notched twice against the Italians in midweek – scored more goals at home (12) than any FPL midfielder in the previous campaign.

They face a defence that has been breached 10 times in the last four Gameweeks.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I've decided on getting rid of Kane for this week and getting rid of Lukaku for next week. I've also decided I'll be bringing in Aguero and Morata. What I need advice on is who to bring in this week and who next week?

    A) Aguero first
    B) Morata first

Another small issue, who should I start:

    A) T Carrol (LEI)
    B) RLC (new)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

If I were doing better I'd say it's obvious Ramsey > Zaha. I'll just say, modestly, Ramsey > Zaha.

I'd swap Wood for Abraham to free up some cash to use elsewhere.

Are you planning on playing Courtois or Elliott this week?
I have same keepers and am tempted to bench Courtois.

Who's the popular pick from Sterling, Silva and De Bruyne? (If price didn't matter)

Sterling I'd say, more explosive than Silva, but Silva more nailed on the other hand.

Just a few observations on Burnley.

    - Burnley haven't conceded more than 1 goal since GW1 (2-3 win at Chelsea).
    - Despite this defensive record, they rank 17th for shots conceded in the box; only 4 behind Crystal Palace who have the worst record.
    - Surprisingly, Burnley rank 20th for chances conceded centrally.

So, while Heaton and Pope have been performing wonderfully, the signs look good for Silva and De Bruyne to have success threading the eye of the needle.

      3-1 IMO. City too fluid.

Lukaku seems the safe middle of the road pick.

I'm worried about this also. For me, it's Lukaku scoring 50% of United's goals in a 0-1 or 0-2 victory, or Jesus scoring a third of City's goals in a 3-0 or 4-0 victory.

I think I'm leaning towards Jesus because their attacking ceiling is so much higher.

Depends what you want to do with the difference between Kane and Lukaku.

Both options are good. No Kane opens up more funds but you would still be well served having Eriksen if you ditch Kane.

        My full W/C squad is

        Hart (Elliot)
Jones | Gomez | Trippier (Francis, Hune)
Sterling | Silva | Salah | Choupo (Elneny)
        Lukaku | Aguero | Morata

I only have Trippier coverage for Spurs.
I could drop Lukaku for Kane and swap Trippier for Lascelles.

My main competitors have Eriksen & Lukaku but no Kane.. Difficult one!

    Evening all,

Thinking of Bavies to Cresswell to free up funds, bearing in mind Spurs fixtures and the gradual return of Danny Rose.

    Thoughts?

    Cheers

I am on wc, and am considering the same. The prudent side of just says to hold -- good fantasy player, good team, yet it's the Rose rotation fear that is really making me think I should sell.

Couldn't agree more! Although I'm also skeptical of his potential points return this weekend which is off putting. Don't really want to play him but can't bench at that price!

Given City points can be spread across at least 4 players possibly 6, going to go with Hazard captain for a big differential. Good to captain a differential in a week when Captains are spread, you lose less rank than when the obvious captain does well.
