The Weekend Team News

Spurs are dealt a massive blow as Harry Kane is ruled out of their trip to Manchester United. West Brom have concerns at the back ahead of a home clash with league leaders Man City, while Bournemouth have mixed news up front as Chelsea roll up to the Vitality Stadium. Here’s our round-up of the team news so far, with eleven press conferences still to come today.

Earlier this morning, Spurs confirmed that Harry Kane has a minor strain to his left hamstring after undergoing assessments.

With a Champions League clash against Real Madrid in midweek, Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his star striker will miss tomorrow’s crucial trip to Old Trafford.

“We cannot take a risk for tomorrow, we’ll see after for Wednesday (v Real Madrid). But tomorrow, it is impossible.”

Fernando Llorente or Son Heung-min will now lead the Spurs attack at Old Trafford, with Pochettino perhaps set to field a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Meanwhile, United’s first-choice centre-halves Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, along with Marcus Rashford, were all pictured back in training yesterday.

Arsene Wenger has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home encounter against Swansea City.

Martin Olsson is almost certain to miss out for the Swans due to a hamstring injury, while Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony remain sidelined.

James McArthur and Chung-yong Lee are both doubtful for Crystal Palace’s home fixture against West Ham United due to knocks.

Georginio Wijnaldum has recovered from a knee injury, and is fit to return for Liverpool’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers’ Elias Kachunga has trained all week following a back injury, and is available for the Anfield clash. Collin Quaner has a chance of being involved after stepping up his recovery from a calf injury.

Roberto Pereyra will miss Watford’s home clash against Stoke City due to a hamstring injury, while Sebastian Prodl and Younes Kaboul remain out.

Peter Crouch (back) is a slight doubt for the Potters, while Bruno Martins Indi remains sidelined.

Tony Pulis will be without Craig Dawson (knee) and James Morrison (achilles) for the home encounter with Manchester City. Gareth Barry (hamstring) and Jonny Evans (groin) remain concerns for the Baggies.

Jermain Defoe is back in training following a hamstring injury and “should be fine” for Bournemouth’s home match with Chelsea, according to Eddie Howe. Josh King has recovered from illness but is now doubtful due to a back problem, while Ryan Fraser will be assessed after picking up a knock in midweek.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche revealed Chris Wood is “touch and go” for the Monday night meeting with Newcastle United due to a hamstring injury, but Sam Vokes could return following an abdominal strain.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this tomorrow’s 11.30am deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from today’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

I mean, maybe - but just wary about Arsenal's fixtures after Swansea. Would keep Laca long term, but would be annoying if he doesn't return points this weekend.

Before today, my WC was looking like this:

    DDG / Elliot
    Otamendi / Daniels / Ward / Dunk / [Rangel/Hunemeier]
    Salah / Sterling* / Richarlison / Gross / Carroll
    Kane* / Aguero* / Morata

I am still happy with it, but seems silly to not react to today's news, given Aguero/Sterling are already slight doubts.

Who might you switch Kane and one of Sterling/Aguero to, short-term? Cheers.

No. I'd still get a 4.5m mid, but invest it in a better defence.

How many of us are using our free hits? I do want to save it for the inevitable blank gameweek, but this week seems like a really good opportunity with the Kane news.

For the sake of saving a -4 or -8 I wouldn't, as tempting as it is - I think the free hit will be so valuable on those blank GWs

    2. Bird Raymond
      • 12 Years
      6 years, 7 months ago

I'd earmarked this as a good week to play the free hit but wanted to save it for the blanks. The Kane news has tipped the balance for me though.

As long as you have the main 4 or 5 players for the blanks you will probably be OK, the rest are usually punts from poor teams and not worth the transfers to get them in and out.

I think I can gain 20-30 points this week with the free hit, which I would be delighted with from the using it in the blanks.

            Monreal Otta Ward Jones
            Sanchez, Salah, Sane, Richarlison

Is Moreno nailed? Would be a shame to end up playing 10 with the free hit. I prefer Jesus over Laca as well. With captain Sanchez it gives an attack of 2 x ars, 2 x liv, 2 x mci and 1 x che and a punt on Richarlison which feels right for this week.

      Took -8 hit early on.
Seems Kun a doubt after 120 minutes midweek.
Kane out will mean another -4 to avoid so much money on the bench.
Time for the free hit chip which, in many ways is worth more than a WC.

People strongly suggesting to keep Kane are in denial. We have no idea how long he might be out for and even if he played and against Madrid he could easily be rested against Palace.
Add to that the factor of Guardiola's rotation and the fact that the majority of managers have double or triple City so we could be facing multiple non starting players.

indeed, that's common sense. And because he's injured he's limited to a 0.1 fall. If FPL allow him to fall at all... because maybe they read sites like this and a strong of posts from non owners all advocating sales because they want him to fall so they can buy him.

Right, with the Kane news, it is down to 2 options...

          a) Chalobah and Lukaku --> Richarlison and Jesus

          b) Brady and Lukaku --> Salah and Firmino

Apart from strikers would be pretty pointless to free hit this right?

          Elliot (bur)

Jones (TOT) Duffy (SOU) Ward (NEW)

(S)alah (HUD) Silva (wba) Hazard (bou) Richarlison (STK)

Lukaku (TOT) Kane (mun) Abraham (ars)

          Foster Carroll Naughton Long

agreed, pointless free hit. You've a strong side there. Kane is annoying but a whole bunch of people are in the same boat, people who own him from 12.4 so won't sell... and he was hardly likely to run riot this week anyway, maybe a goal or assist but not a hat trick at OT when Mou will park the bus.

RP bottomed last page went back to the drawing board with the Kane news earlier this is my WC team now barring any more injury news any feedback would be great:

          Pope
          Jones Mee Monreal
          Grob KDB Salah(VC) Sane
          Aguero (C) Lukaku Okazaki

          Subs: Elliot,Dunk, Carroll & Rangel

0.9 left ITB incase Harry Kane is fit for next GW

hahaha, I've concluded the same.. if he doesn't play, RLC coming on and scoring a hat trick will do me proud!

Thoughts on the wild card team below most welcome!
Notes: 1.8m in the bank to bring Kane back in next round. I want to avoid non-certain starters.

            Otamendi Alderweireld Monreal Gomez Duffy
            Alli Salah Fabregas Richarlison Choupo-Moting
            Lukaku Firmino Abraham

Never understood why an injured player doesn't lose value - they should
