Scout Notes – Gameweek 12 – Sunday

Richarlison ends his Vicarage Road goal drought as Will Hughes catches the eye against West Ham. Elsewhere, the heroics of Heurelho Gomes helps the Hornets to a rare clean sheet as David Moyes’ tenure at West Ham begins with defeat.

Richarlison ends home drought

Such a reliable source of goals and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points on his travels, Richarlison finally found the net at home after failing to produce a single effort on target in his previous five at Vicarage Road.

Owned by 18%, the young Brazilian’s home output was of particular concern bearing in mind that his next two visitors are Manchester United and Spurs in Gameweek 14-15.

Yet Sunday’s strike maintained a remarkable run of consistency – he’s now delivered attacking points in six of the last seven Gameweeks ahead of next weekend’s trip to Newcastle United.

Heightening his appeal for that Magpies clash is that, away from home, Richarlison has averaged 7.2 points per match and is the league’s top player for shots inside the opposition box (20).

On the downside, he also has a testing trip to Burnley directly after those United and Spurs matches. But the case for holding is very convincing, with the fixtures turning in his favour from Gameweek 17 once again.

At a price of 6.5, Richarlison is now the top FPL midfielder for value in terms of points per million and sits fifth in the midfield standings on 66 points.

Despite that, his inability to claim bonus points continues to dent the South American’s captaincy potential. He has scored or assisted in eight of the first 12 Gameweeks but has earned bonus points on just two occasions.

Today’s BPS haul was limited by two shots off target and two fouls conceded, while he was also tackled twice.

Hughes impresses in tactical tweak

Handed a central support role alongside Richarlison as Marco Silva moved to 3-4-2-1 against the Hammers, Will Hughes overshadowed his more popular team-mate thanks to a goal, assist and maximum bonus.

But Watford’s form on the road suggests that Silva could revert to his usual 4-2-3-1 at St James’ Park – only Man City (16) and Chelsea (14) have scored more away goals than the Hornets’ 12.

Regardless of formation, Hughes (4.6) now looks likely to be on the teamsheet for the trip to Tyneside after months on the periphery.

Handed just 10 minutes in the opening 10 Gameweeks, Hughes has now started both of Watford’s last two. However, Roberto Pereyra made a return to the bench and replaced the former Derby County man late on; he will doubtless threaten Hughes’ start in weeks to come.

Andre Gray was again a starter up front as Troy Deeney served the second match in a three-match suspension. Gray’s scuffed assist for Hughes’ opener was his second in as many matches.

Gomes keeps it clean

Silva can thank Heurelho Gomes for their first clean sheet in eight attempts after he denied Cheick Kouyate and Marko Arnautovic with superb stops.

Indeed, David Moyes can at least take encouragement from the fact that his side had three big chances today – they had managed just six in their previous six road trips under Slaven Bilic.

For the hosts, the decision to bench Jose Holebas came as a surprise as Marvin Zeegelaar (4.4) earned his first outing of the season at left wing-back. Holebas had played every minute of the previous 10 matches he had been available for, only missing the Gameweek 3 encounter against Brighton due to suspension.

Ranked top for crosses (82) and successful crosses (17) among defenders, Holebas is second only to Ben Davies for key passes (15 to 22) at the back.

Watford’s primary corner taker over the first 11 (he had taken 33 of their first 50), Holebas’ absence saw Hughes also claim dead-ball duties, taking all three of Watford’s corners.

Zeegelaar impressed on his first start, picking up two bonus points on his debut having won three tackles. Kiko Femenía – our preferred option among Silva’s defence – picked up a single bonus point but hobbled off late on with a knock.

Elsewhere, Adrian Mariappa – a 4.0 option in FPL – also earned a notable recall in Silva’s three-man defence having been dropped for the previous two outings.

However, like Hughes, Mariappa will surely have strong competition for his starting role with Sebastian Prödl returning from injury to figure on the bench on Sunday. Younes Kaboul is also on the road to recovery, with Silva likely to go into the busy Christmas period with the option to rotate his centre-backs.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

1.4k with with 752pts. I'm so afraid of Kane, one poor week with a Harry haul might kill us

The chances of our entire team doing poor with a harry Kane haul is slim.

At the most, we'll get a small red. I have had only 2 or I guess 3 red when Kane scored a brace, but that too was not that significant.

Yeah but there's that fear about him scoring for fun, but that's what we opted for . The team without kane looks so much better than with Kane

Yeah really bad luck, to top it off with niasse first sub hurts a bit more. But hey can't have the luck with me every week right ?

Regarding Alli, I have a plan of replacing Francis , stones , Alli with monreal, otamendi and pogba/Ramsey. I can do it this week with a -8 or can do one Transfer a week.

I am considering going without spurs . Thinks there's better value elsewhere for either same or cheap price

              What's your plan ?

Keep him for the WBA game - hopefully no injuries midweek, so I can keep my FT.

If he doesn't look good next GW, I'll be looking to use both FTs and maybe a -4 to generate funds and replace him with Hazard. Early days, though.

    Repost, bottomed

Thoughts on Damarai Gray? He's been starting regularly under Claude Puel

Does he have enough end product to be a solid 5th mid in a 3-5-2? (Niasse or Wilson would be the 3rd striker who can rotated with him according to fixture)

    So Azpi or Alonso?

    Azpi
+ Played every PL minute both last and this season. Won't get rotated during Christmas.
+ Telepathic connection with Morata. 5 assists already.
    + Baps magnet
    - Plays deeper
    - Lack of shots/pen area touches

    Alonso
+ Plays a lot more advanced
+ Shoots a lot, lots of pen area touches
+ Based on last season he has a higher ceiling (several 15+ scores)
    - When it isn't his day he doesn't get a graceful 2 pointer like Azpi. Gets booked, often on the verge of a red card and then gets subbed
    - Might get the odd rest during the festive period?

    1. Rainer
      • 7 Years
      6 years, 7 months ago

Take your pick, both will score well. Close low scoring games Azpi will pip Alonso in BPS but there is just something about watching Alonso when you own him.

Can see Azpi's massive appeal but if buying now I'd find the 0.1m for Alonso.

    2. Digital-Real
      • 7 Years
      6 years, 7 months ago

Tough to call. I have Alonso and stuck with him, not wasting a transfer to swap with Azpi. If i was starting again, i'd certainly go for Azpi.

    3. Zebras
      • 8 Years

I've had Alonso basically from the start and have been wanting to swap for azpi. Otamendi ban allowed for a transfer to Azpi. So opted to double up with their current fixtures and will eventually need to drop one, likely Alonso, to invest elsewhere

      1. Zebras
        • 8 Years

    Eliot
    Moreno, Jones, Bavies
    Sterling, Silva, Salah, RLC
    Abraham, Kane, Lukaku

    (Hart, Richarlison, Ward, Lascelles)

Is Abraham to Wilson a waste of a transfer?

Strange goings on in football these days. There was a time when a striker was the furthest forward in a team, as proved by "touches in the box", with assists and goals to match...

Not quite so clear cut these days...

One of those sides... defending deep then all over the opposition box in a few seconds! Fast ey, wow

At least Sterling has finally delivered on his always promising touches in the box numbers.

My mini wildcard paid off this week.
Took a -8 this week to do:

    Forster (2pts), Cedric (1pt), Maguire (0pt), Xhaka (2pts) -> Pope (8pts), Mee (6pts), Daniels (8pts), Richarlison (8pts)

Hate myself right now, broke my 2 of my 3 rules this year.

    1. Don't do early transfers
    2. Don't take lots of point hits (-4)

    Result:

    Stones > Moreno
    Jesus > Morata

I'd be holding Jesus this week, but gl.

be flexible with formation. Ive always stuck rigidly to 3-4-3 in the past
