Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Kane Strike Not Enough

A goal from their talisman fails to drag Spurs from their slump as Leicester City inflict a third defeat in five matches on Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Harry Kane’s seventh goal in as many away matches this season was, on the face of it, the sign of a good night’s work at Leicester City.

The strike was certainly a relief for the 17.4% of Fantasy Premier League managers, that’s close to a million, who captained him.

But they could have been excused for expecting more – his six-point return at the King Power Stadium was the first time this season he’s failed to earn bonus when on the scoresheet.

And then there’s the issue of Spurs themselves. How long can a misfiring side keep relying on Kane to bail them out, particularly when he has struggled to make an impact at home all season?

The 2-1 defeat last night was their third straight match without a win, and their third loss in five, with perhaps the only positive on the night the return from long-term injury of Erik Lamela (6.3), who was handed 13 minutes from the bench and still found the time to set up Kane’s goal.

However, from a Fantasy perspective, his return to contention only clouds the issue in the Spurs midfield, handing Pochettino more options to rotate.

Not that we have interest in that Spurs midfield right now.

Christian Eriksen missed a glorious chance to score his first goal since Gameweek 8 and continues to leak owners as a result. He lost 166,000+ in the lead up to last night, and a further 12,000+ since have made him the third most sold player heading into Gameweek 15.

Pochettino can’t even offer us defensive solidity to fall back on at the moment. They’ve kept just one clean sheet in six matches and the rotation issues surrounding their wing-backs – Serge Aurier and Danny Rose were given the nod last night – have further dented managers’ confidence in Ben Davies.

The Welsh international has lost owners in five of the last six Gameweeks and is already exceeding Eriksen’s sales going into the weekend trip to Watford.

That match precedes a Champions League dead rubber in which Pochettino will surely rest key assets, so Davies and Kieran Trippier could well play at both Watford and in Gameweek 16’s Wembley visit from Stoke City.

But despite a fine short-term schedule (wat STK BHA), investment in any of Spurs’ stars is an increasingly fraught affair at present.

Foxes back in focus

New Leicester manager Claude Puel has described his side as a work in progress, and that progress was there for all to see against Spurs.

Jamie Vardy’s goal was a huge relief for his 13.9% ownership, although more than 133,000 managers have jumped ship over the past six Gameweeks, with the England man having found the net just twice in his last eight starts.

The form of Riyad Mahrez is considerably more encouraging.

His winner last night was his third goal of the season, and all have come since Gameweek 8. During the same period, he’s also provided three of his six assists for the campaign.

Owned by just 4.2%, the midfielder could prove to be an excellent pre-Christmas differential as the Foxes prepare for a promising quartet of matches (BUR new sou CRY) up next.

However, Demarai Gray’s stock – previously buoyant under Puel when he started the last four – took a dent following last night’s encounter. The 5.3 midfield option was benched for the first by his manager, with Shinji Okazaki returning to the starting line-up.

At the back, things remain patchy. Leicester have kept a very unPuel-like one clean sheet in seven, but those short-term fixtures could help improve that.

Christian Fuchs missed out for the Foxes due to the birth of his daughter on Tuesday afternoon, while striker Kelechi Iheanacho was also absent through illness but is expected back in the squad for Gameweek 14.

Vardy is a better option, great fixtures before Christmas, I just transferred in Courtois, should get a fair few clean sheets before christmas, best teams they play before Christmas are Brighton and Everton

One thing I got right so far this season as getting rid of Eriksen, lukaku and (Vardy to a lesser extent.) There's a fine line between holding on to a player too long and not having any patience at all.

In the latter case I got rid of Mahrez after just two games and Sterling out for Sane few wks back isnt great so far.

    Hard to get it right.

Agreed. Sometimes its random when a player decides to hit some form. I try to give at least 5 weeks to any new transfer, unless someone much, much better, comes along (with consistent signs of more points)

That's true I got rid of Jones at the right time. Same with Eriksen but brought in Hazard who did not do much in first GW when I had him anyways I hope it will pay off in long term. Also ditched Lukaku and I think it was the right moment. At least that it how things seems to be atm. Though I brought Salah way too late.., you cannot get everything right..

    GW15 Team:

    Forster
    Walker - Daniels - Alonso - Bellerin - Maguire
    Sane - Hazard
    Morata - Kane - Wilson

    Bench: Elliot, Surman, Carroll, Carrick

    Transfer thoughts:
    A) Bellerin + Carrick >> Zaha + Mee (-4)
    B) Bellerin to >> ??
    C) Forster to Pope/Lloris
    D) Hold FT and major surgery following GW

I don't know who Burnley plays this GW but unless its a big team I would do both A and C. Forster and Elliot weak source of points, vs Pope who can do no wrong.

Not sold on getting Zaha in though...maybe there are better options in mid and you could try 5-3-2??

Can see them going 433 with Jesus, Sane and Bernardo tonight. Probably rotate in Aguero for the second half and start him with Sane and Sterling at the weekend, don't know why everyone is talking about them playing together, its not a part of Pep's usual set ups and he'd fatigue both his strikers before the Utd game.

Makes sense to start sane tonight

If he gets a yellow he is safe for the derby if he doesn't then he will probably be benched on the weekend.

Sterling should miss out tonight. I know people talk about second guessing pep is impossible but aguero starting over jesus vs hudd aside his benching patterns have been predictable. Just some thing people like to spout without much thought

Harry Kane has somewhat hampered my season so far with his low captain scores, as he has for many an fpl manager.

However in the grand scheme if things he has scored 10 goals in 13 games so far this season and is still well on course to score high 20’s even 30 goals to match his previous seasons tally's.

I see all the many Kane theories about why he blanks but is Kanes overall output really that bad? He is the priciest option in fpl but he is now also the top scoring forward.

With 24 fixtures left and Tottenham at some point surely having to go on a 5-10 game run, Kane could shine and live up to the hefty price and punish sellers.

I for one will be putting up and shutting up.

wise words Daddy Pig. I'm certainly not selling. More so given only Morata of the other options appeals to me... who I own.

      yet...

for me a 3-4-3 HAS to still involve Kane

the arguement I suppose is whether a 3-5-2 is now better with a more expensive midfield funded by him and say Morata and Vardy up front

The only thing that would really push me into dropping him is Sanchez going mad. Then it would be hard to ignore him and a 3-5-2 would be the order of the day. Other than that im sticking.

That's the thing though. You are looking at Kane comparing to other strikers. But if you look at your team, the price saved on going against Kane and for a lower priced striker may make your team much better points wise.

I didnt have him for first 2 and that 1 he was injured..and I captained him for all other games
Will probably captain him every game until end of season if no injuries
4 double figures,8,6 and five blanks
Its ok for me,especially cause I dont have any luck when changing captains every gw

Alonso, kola, hazard, salah, Kane, morata and a full playing bench looks ok to me

Yeah tough, only way to bring him in now is downgrading a mid or otamendi which not sure I want to do.

Will probably bring Kane in next week though ahead of Manc derby by downgrading otamendi to Watford def...

A big weight off my team finally getting Salah in!
I just want to apologise in advance if anything sinister should happen to Mo.
Zaha injury at the start, when I brought in Pogba he got injured, Walker he got sent off, Aguero in and injured the following week, Mendy 0 points and long term injury, Coutinho 0 points and injury, Alli in then injured before I could play him.

Davies owners. Have you had enough?

I'd have quit FPL if I still had Davies.
Switch to someone more nailed on, probably from a better defence.

Davies isn't nailed and Spurs defence is looking broken at the minute. Davies is a liability
