Sky Sports Focus

Time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we take a look back at the recent action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 16 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

Undoubtedly the star of the Double Gameweek was the Premier League’s top goal scorer, Mohammed Salah.

The Egyptian picked up the award in both of his fixtures, despite starting the second clash on the bench.

He’s now the games leading scorer by an impressive 24 points and also tops the MoTM table with six awards.

Interestingly, Salah is also now the game’s most popular player, with 47.1% ownership, having overtaken Romelu Lukaku in midweek.

Somewhat surprisingly, the next highest owned player to feature here is Wayne Rooney (7.4%) in what was a good week for differential picks.

And speaking of which, Raheem Sterling (6.9%) continues to go under the radar and is now the third highest scoring midfielder overall – at a cost of just 9.8.

Gameweek 16 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 23 points or more in bonus for the season

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Three specific price brackets will be used to cater for our available budgets.

The players will evolve with fixtures and form, and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in (hopefully) the right direction.

Notes

I used three transfers over the double, with Andreas Christensen, Davison Sanchez and Leroy Sane all coming in.

None of them set the world alight, unfortunately, but looking ahead I’m confident an upturn in points is just around the corner.

Like many, my midfield was hit by mass rotation during midweek but, luckily, captaining Harry Kane and then Kevin De Bruyne helped my team to tick along, maintaining my rank from last week.

I now only have one transfer “pencilled in” for the foreseeable future, which will be Kiko Femenia to Phil Jones upon his return from injury.

This will give me a back four made up of some the best teams’ defences in the league, but at a very kind price – a rare and strange experience for me having historically always gone for bargain options at the back.

Whether this experiment will bear fruit I’m not entirely sure, but each season is unique and we have to try and adapt, something I’m trying to correct in my play style after remaining too stubborn in recent times.

Wish me luck as I venture into the unknown.

Captain Plan

Sat 2nd – Hazard (vs NEW)
Sun 3rd – Sane (vs WHU)

Any Real Madrid fans in? Quick question.

GW14 tomorrow against Bilbao. Then Sevilla (H) GW15. No Leganes match GW16 due to Club World Cup commitments and then Barcelona (H) GW17.

Ramos and Casemiro on 4YC currently. Are you expecting them to each pick up a YC tomorrow, to miss Sevilla and then free to play Barcelona? It's 5/1 on both to be carded which appears decent value...

    1. Isco Disco
      • 6 Years
      6 years, 6 months ago

With Ramos, yes I expect him to pick up a YC tomorrow. But I don't expect Casemiro to pick up a YC tomorrow coz we need him against Sevilla too. Real defense is too leaky without him and Zidane knows that.

Even as a Barca fan I rate both those very highly, but surely Zidane's priority is to beat Barcelona. I'm sure Sevilla would love to be running at Achraf over Carvajal, but he can't afford either Casemiro or Carvajal to miss the Clasico, cos they really need to beat Barca.

Wow, Sterling rising tonight and Sane falling tomorrow is the forecast. How quickly our alliances change.

Can you imagine how much Sane will fall if he doesn’t play on the weekend?
Could well be the first 0.3M drop in a week before MUN.

If he doesn't play this week then he will be nailed on to start against United, so surely folk will sell him after the Utd game not before.

But can you see the Utd game being high-scoring? I predict a 1-0 coming (like vs Chelsea)

A lot more "casual" players this season seem to be moving prices up and down like a yoyo. As soon as someone has a bad week or two they're being transferred out by tens of thousands.

As nailed as it can get. I wouldn't mind an odd festive rotation.

Would you make any changes to this team? (not just for this gameweek)

    Pope ----- Elliot
Mee, Daniels, Gomez ----- Mariappa, Rangel
    Salah, Sterling, Sane, Hazard, RLC
    Kane, Morata ----- Quaner

Only subs that would have any game time at all would be Elliot, Mariappa. Quaner and Rangel are there because the cheap price.

Yes - everyone you expect to play wont and everyone you expected to have a rest will play and score.

As soon as Conte believes Batshuayi is fit enough for a start imo.

      Soon.

Could be this week but I try not to think about it. If he doesn't play he doesn't play. I was convinced Sterling would get a rest in the last two weeks and look what happened there!

Doubt it this weekend. He had a midweek rest last week

As I did for the midweek games, I'm thinking of going a run down of captain contenders for the upcoming Gameweek. Here goes:

    Mohammed Salah:
Blistering form and as close to essential currently as is possible. Came off the bench midweek so start secure. Brighton fairly tight but still expecting Liverpool and Salah to get chances. The 'safe' captain.

    Harry Kane:
Quietly ticking over with goals - says something when non-explosive returns are spoken of as 'not in form'. Good fixture, away. Spurs as a team are bang out of form though. Risky considering Salahs form but high ceiling.

    Eden Hazard:
Off the bench midweek so should start. In form. Great fixture. On penalties. If you own, there's a very good case to captain.

    ManCity assets:
As I said midweek, wouldn't want to second guess Peps line up. Probably thus almost always somewhat risky to captain. Sane and Jesus safer than Sterling and Aguero, imo.

    Alvaro Morata:
Still a bit patchy. Misses a hatful of chances from time to time. Good fixture. Should help that Hazard and Azpi will be back in. Relatively risky captain pick.

Wouldn't captain anyone from the Arsenal United game considering other fixtures but Sanchez as good a shout as any with form and potentially starting striker.

Hope you all have a great week!

Cheers for this but I don't know how you or anyone can call the City options. I wouldn't put my captaincy anywhere near them.

That's what I'm trying to say, in just terms not as strong as this. Unnecessarily risky.

I think Newcastle will just try and imitate Swansea and park a big bus. Watford will try and come out and play at least.
