Scout Notes – Silva Shines in City Stroll

Manchester City win again to move within two victories of securing the Premier League title, while Stoke City assets do little to further their Gameweek 31 causes.

Gameweek 33’s home match with Man United could be the entirely fitting fixture that wins City the league – a fact that will definitely trouble United fans and might well leave Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers uneasy as well.

Following a Gameweek 31 blank, Pep Guardiola’s side must see off Everton at Goodison Park if they are to take the Premier League crown with a win in the Manchester derby, so nothing is done and dusted just yet.

But it’s an entirely plausible scenario that raises the prospect of a likely double Gameweek 34 – involving Spurs away and then a visit from Brighton – in which Guardiola can rotate to his heart’s content with the team’s Champions League duties in mind.

This all casts doubt on the merits of investment in City players for our Wildcards in Gameweeks 32 or 33.

For now, however, they’re still two wins from any of that, with the latest victory secured by a double from David Silva.

The midfielder opened the scoring in the first half when set up by the returning Raheem Sterling before clinching the points just after the break from a Gabriel Jesus assist.

That’s three goals and an assist from the last three Gameweeks for Silva, who was signed by 84,000+ heading into the match. He’s now produced six of his eight goals and three of his four double-digit tallies in away fixtures this season.

Sterling returned from injury for a first start since Gameweek 27 to produce a fifth haul (two goals, four assists) from his last seven starts.

More than a million managers, including 339,000+ for Gameweek 30, had sold him since he was sidelined, however.

The other returner, Jesus, started in place of Sergio Aguero, who is expected to be out for two weeks with a knee injury. Both the Argentinian and Sterling remain among the top five most sold ahead of Gameweek 31.

The Brazilian striker completed a rare 90 minutes – only his third of the season – at Stoke and now has eight goals and five assists from just 13 starts during the campaign.

Guardiola’s changes meant that Bernardo Silva was unfortunate to drop to the bench despite delivering two goals and an assist in three of the last four Gameweeks, a run that had prompted 60,000 managers to buy him for the Stoke clash.

City’s third straight clean sheet also involved different defensive personnel, with Vincent Kompany replacing Aymeric Laporte as Nicolas Otamendi’s centre-half partner – a pairing that seems to be Guardiola’s preferred choice at the heart of his defence.

Even with a six-match blip from Gameweek 22 during which they kept just one clean sheet, the backline has now moved to 15 shut-outs for the season, taking them level at the top with United.

That’s elevated the stock of Ederson (5.6), who is now just seven points behind David De Gea (5.9) in FPL’s goalkeeper standings. The Brazilian even brought in a bonus point last night despite making just one save thanks to his pass completion.

Elsewhere, two bonus points went to Otamendi – his first since Gameweek 21 – to move him to 18 for the season, just one behind Cesar Azpilicueta as the top-ranked defender for that metric.

The Argentine has lost over 162,000 in ownership across the last six Gameweeks and has responded by keeping four clean sheets and scoring 29 points.

Potters’ poor audition

Expecting too much from Stoke assets against the all-but champions was always going to be optimistic, but few did themselves any favours last night ahead of their Gameweek 31 home match with Everton.

Xherdan Shaqiri, with 13.7% ownership, is by far their most popular player in FPL and he was easily the pick of an unimpressive bunch.

Mame Diouf’s shoulder injury has left a striker spot up for grabs, and it was Jese who was handed the chance to shine against City.

He promptly fluffed his lines, which could open the door for Peter Crouch to start the Everton encounter, although coach Paul Lambert has also used Eric Choupo-Moting in the lone striker role.

At the back, club captain Ryan Shawcross was left on the bench for the third match running, with Kurt Zouma and Bruno Martins Indi employed at centre-back.

Behind them, goalkeeper Jack Butland earned yet another save point – he’s now produced at least one of those in 12 of his last 13 starts –and has a league-leading 107 stops for the season.

The Potters have kept just five clean sheets this campaign, but four have come against relegation rivals and three of them at home.

That could tempt Free Hit Chip investment in their backline against an Everton side that has scored just three times in their last six away days.

just spoken to my H2H opponent this week and he refuses to accept that my hit is only worth -2, can I manually adjust my score to reflect this fact?

All hits are -4! Players can get red cards, zero pointers in defence, etc. No guarantee that they will score at least 2 points!

Thoughts on Shaqiri being essential for 31?
I find this one strange, many putting Shaqiri in the same bracket as LIV mids as in essential for 31!
I'm on FH and don't even have him in my squad. Fair enough he got those goals in three games running recently, but Stoke offer so little in attack and he might not score again for the rest of the season! Loads better punts for 31 imo!

I have 11 players out but hard to get really excited about this gw. Just hoping a differential player like Mounie or Stanislas goes big. In reality we know this won't happen but we can all dream , right?

Need some clarification on the FH chip please.

Am I right in thinking you can change the complete squad for one week, and then it reverts back to the original squad the following gameweek??

If so, would it make sense to use this for GW31 and load up with players from only the 8 teams in action?

    1. John t penguin
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

      yes that's how it works
and if you are using it this week it makes sense to have full team, with maybe one or two back ups as you wont spend your whole budget

likely you will be able to afford a bench of starters also. Would at least have extra keeper and one outfield player. You can always change nearer weekend if news comes through of injuries but best to have some back up

Yes you're right with your thinking and yes I agree with your logic. For me it only depends on how much GW31 players you already have. In my estimation anything more than 7 before FreeTransfer I would recommend saving FH.

you have 7. milo will play
compare this team with your FT or even a hit to the perfect FH team. You need to consider if using the FH is worth it for how different it looks

That's a really difficult one. I have Arnold, but feel he could be dropped and Gomez will come back in, especially in preparation for Champs League, where Klopp may go for more experience. I am keeping Arnold and putting the emphasis on attack elsewhere , as defenders less likely to have a high ceiling. So Firminho and Salah already in and I am getting Stan and Mounie in for a 3-4-3.

Given that Leicester, Man United and Chelsea have the better fixtures (and Double Gameweek fixtures) who are we looking at for Kane replacements if he is out for say 4 weeks?

Lukaku, Vardy and, dare I say it ... Morata? or do we ignore fixtures and go for Jesus in a team that dominate regardless of who they play?

So setting on using FT on Albrighton ➡️ Shaqiri. Now is either of these worth a (-4pts)?

    A) Erikson ➡️ Stanislas

    B) Kane ➡️ King

Trouble is that when I WC in GW32, I will most likely get rid of Erikson (and have Son) and keep Kane if he's fit. Plus I've got value tied up in Kane but none in Erikson. So surely A is the sensible option right??

king or stan have same points potential so toss of coin, king on pens slight advantage but they would need to get pen.
best to wait on kane news if you are planning on keeping. My thought are it doesnt make difference if wc in 32 cant see him recovering too soon so likely you will sell him anyway

Could only do both if I didn't do Albrighton to Shaqiri as all three transfers would give me 11 outfield players so with a keeper as well one player would be left on bench. So is Kane to King a better transfer than Albrighton to Shaqiri? Not so sure personally

Triple Stoke and benching Coleman & Baines, not for me at all! We will both be looking for a very different result in that game, although I'd take 0-0! GL!

Everton have been very poor away from home. Siggy now injured and doubts over Walcott who are the main attacking threats.

Everton have both Baines and Coleman back fit which is huge imo. Bolasie also back fit and could come in for Siggy, with Rooney & Tosun, I think they have enough threat?

Team makes a lot of sense to me. May be more tempted to play Baines over Zouma as more likely to have attacking points, pens etc. and you would spread the risk of 2 Stoke defenders. Midfield spot on.

For a -4 how's this looking? Not really feeling the Tosun pick, but can't see many options.

    Hennessey
    VVD, Hegazi, Zanka
    Salah, Shaqiri, Stanislaus, VLP
    Firmino, Deeney, Tosun

Possibly, but with my bench (Son, Lascelles, Ward) I can manage a decent team in 32 and WC later.

anyone see any clean sheet anywhere this weekend

might just use FH and get a good defence in case Liverpool v Watford becomes low scoring 1-1

Is this weekend the best time to use your free hit chip if you've already used your second wildcard?

This is what I was thinking although I also have my TC chip and BB which would come in handy for a DGW.

depends how many starters you currently have. If you've got at least 7, then you're better off using the FH in BGW35.

    C) Kun and Sterling -> Benteke and Mane (-4)

Anyone bringing in defenders for a hit this week? Worth it for a -2 to field 21 players?

Do we really fancy Spurs and Son for the next three? Ive had him quite a while and consider chipping him on wildcard GW32 for someone like Mikky or City mid. Thoughts?
