The Community Round-Up

After weeks of planning, the second reduced Gameweek of the season is almost here.

Our community discussions take in the best players to target as well as offering advice on whether to deploy the Free Hit chip to help navigate the limited set of fixtures.

The predicted weekend moves of the Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) top managers are considered among our latest community articles, which also includes further comprehensive coverage of the Norwegian top-flight Fantasy game.

There’s further insight into the best options for this weekend among the new Members statistics tables, and we finish off our weekly round-up with a look at those hoping that they can remain on top in our community contests.

The Community Articles

Ragabolly has been getting both his abacus and crystal ball out to predict the Top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers’ moves ahead of Gameweek 31, including Free Hit deployment and how many hits they might take.

Meanwhile, the Career Hall of Fame top five’s preparations for this weekend’s reduced schedule is covered by Top Marx.

Those that invest in the Liverpool attack and Bournemouth backline look the likeliest to prosper, according to Hutch_Jamescanvassing of  ‘the crowd’.

Meanwhile, the first Gameweek of the Norwegian Fantasy Eliteserien game didn’t quite go to plan, with reigning champions Rosenborg beaten and snow reducing the schedule. Niemi looks ahead to this weekend’s fixtures and also interviewed Eurosport’s Jonas Bergh-Johnson, who helped create the game’s exciting new chips.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Among prime targets for this weekend’s limited fixture list is Stoke City stopper Jack Butland, who has the best minutes per save rate (22.5) of any regular goalkeeper this season. Jason G123 has been weighing up whether this Potters asset justifies a transfer hit when he faces Everton at the Bet365 stadium on Saturday.

Our Hot Topic on blank Gameweek 31’s potential dream team presents a raft of other candidates to consider. This will be particularly handy for those using their Free Hit chip, which Deulofail dropped by to explain earlier this week.

There are further Gameweek 31 options listed in Professor Bear’s look at the latest under the radar prospects.

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, who registered an assist in his return from injury against Chelsea last weekend, is among those vying for a spot in many of the community’s weekend squad, according to our discussion on lessons learned from Gameweek 30.

Everton’s Leighton Baines is another name in the running after he registered a double-digit points haul against Brighton last time out. Those who swooped early for the left-back were among the happy few to take part in our “rough with the smooth” round-up of your Gameweek 30 scores.

Before pressing the transfer button, it is advisable to check out Doosra’s number crunching predictions for the weekend’s games, as delivered by G-Whizz.

Even before this latest blank Gameweek has finished, the community is already thinking ahead to the final seven Gameweeks of the season, the next set of double fixtures and how best to deploy chips.

Lateriser 12’s planning guide offers some useful advice on rising up the rankings during the season run in.

We added to the discussion with a look at the key targets for the final seven Gameweeks of the campaign.

In addition, we canvassed views on the best Chelsea players to bring in and whether Arsenal’s stars can match up to Manchester United’s over the run-in.

To view all our discussions, please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members Tables

Patrickflah has created this table to find out the best midfield options for Gameweek 31 in terms of goals, assists and expected returns. Meanwhile, there’s a quartet of blank Gameweek players to consider in my latest goals imminent table, which focuses on under the radar options who are due a goal.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Anders Lium has ousted long-term leader Elvarus at the summit of Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league and has also taken top spot in PDM’s Top 1k Any Season league.

But there’s no change at the top of Red Lightning’s January to May league, where Shirin Nizar, who is up to 111th place overall, remains in the lead. Red Lightning also wants to remind the community that his new mini-league, Double, Blanks and Chips, starts in Gameweek 31. This has been set up to help assess this season’s best strategy for the season run-in.

Paul Gee has opened up a 45-point lead at the top of the FFScout Members League and is now on the edge of the top ten in the overall rankings, in 11th spot.

Elsewhere, Rizwan Chaudhry retains his lead in the FFScout league, and is up to sixth overall.

I’ve managed to cut Jack Wain’s position at the top of the FFScout moderators and contributors league to two points and still lead QPR Utd’s Frequent Summer Posters competition, with Zoumas Bloomers in hot pursuit.

Dan Jeffries retains bragging rights among our community’s elder statesmen and women at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club, with Bonz in second.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing, the safety score was 36, which saw 69 players depart and 239 remain.

Finally, congratulations to  Team Afghanistanislas for winning this season’s Community Watch tournament.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-Ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head-to-head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Stanislas or Zaha are nice options.
I’m looking at a GK, as may be short next GW (Pope Elliot), so it’d kinda be just a (-4)+2+2...

Are you desperately chasing and thinking of captaining Firmino or Mané over Salah this BGW..? Spare a couple of minutes and get real...just find another differential! 😀

    _
    Part I. FIRMINO(c)

I was strongly leaning toward captaining Firmino earlier this week as I’m 30 odd points back from my main ML rival and it seemed like a good enough idea. But having had a look at Salah's and Firmino's attacking returns in a little more depth, I can find absolutely no justifiable reason to do so!

Taking a simplistic view of attacking returns this season alone, of course I expected to see that Salah to has outperformed Firmino, but having spent much of the season cursing Bobby’s returns (for said rival!), I wasn’t quite expecting the utter domination that is apparent when viewing the pair as direct captaincy options.

Below are listed the gameweeks where one or both made attacking returns:

    GW1 Salah 11 v 12 Firmino (Firmino +1) * Watford (away) 3-3 draw
    GW3 Salah 11 v 12 Firmino (Firmino +1)
    _
    GW5 Salah 10 v 2 Firmino (Salah +8)
    GW6 Salah 7 v 2 Firmino (Salah +5)
    GW9 Salah 7 v 2 Firmino (Salah +5)
    GW10 Salah 4 v 8 Firmino (Firmino +4) *Salah missed pen...
    GW11 Salah 15 v 2 Firmino (Salah +13)
    GW12 Salah 16 v 5 Firmino (Salah +11)
    GW13 Salah 7 v 0 Firmino (Salah +7)
    GW14 Salah 13 v 2 Firmino (Salah +11)
    _
    GW15 Salah 5 v 13 Firmino (Firmino +8)
    GW16 Salah 11 v 1 Firmino (Salah +10)
    GW18 Salah 8 v 12 Firmino (Firmino +4)
    GW19 Salah 10 v 11 Firmino (Firmino +1)
    GW20 Salah 9 v 13 Firmino (Firmino +4)
    _
    GW21 Salah 14 v 2 Firmino (Salah +12)
    GW23 Salah 11 v 8 Firmino (Salah +3)
    GW25 Salah 8 v 8 Firmino
    GW26 Salah 15 v 2 Firmino (Salah +13)
    GW27 Salah 13 v 12 Firmino (Salah +1)
    GW28 Salah 10 v 8 Firmino (Salah +2)
    GW29 Salah 8 v 5 Firmino (Salah +3)

In 30 gameweeks, either or both players have returned attacking points in 22 matches. 8 matches have resulted in both blanking. (CRY, mci, new, MUN, WBA, bur, swa, mun).

Salah has outscored Firmino on 14 occasions from the above
Firmino has outscored Salah on 7 occasions.
    There was 1 ‘draw’, GW25

Captaincy gains that would be made on these occasions as follows (assuming you owned both players):
    Salah - 13, 13, 12, 11, 11, 10, 8, 7, 5, 5, 3, 3, 2, 1
    Firmino - 8, 4, 4, 4, 1, 1, 1

Salah(c) averages an 8.7pt gain, in matches when he outscored Firmino.
Firmino(c) averages a 2.8pt gain, in matches when he outscored Salah.

Salah is also twice as likely (14/21) to outscore Firmino (7/21) in games where either or both make attacking returns.

No surprises then, but the punt option of hoping to gain a significant 1-off advantage from Firmino looks like a dead duck. The ‘absolute best’ you could realistically hope to gain would be an 8 point boost (once in 30 attempts, more like +2 or 3pts if you’re lucky..), whereas an 8 pt gain going with Salah(c) over Firmino is virtually the norm.

Sadly, I am unfurling the white flag - Mo(c) 🙂

    _
    Part II. MANÉ(c)

As a non-Mané-owner (VVD, Salah, Firmino), I’m jealous…very jealous of the attacking triple up. My own view is that owning Mané (just 11.7% ownership) over VVD(7.6%), Robertson(6.7%) or Karius(1.2%) is possibly enough of a differential - he’s certainly not owned on anything like the scale of Firmino(47%) or Salah(62%).

Below are listed the gameweeks where one or both of Salah and Mané made attacking returns. I have excluded the 9 occasions where either player was fully rested, injured or suspended – a note of returns during those weeks is appended. (Sub appearances are included below).

    GW1 Salah 11 v 6 Mané (Salah +5) * Watford (away) 3-3 draw
    GW2 Salah 1 v 8 Mané (Mané +7)
    GW3 Salah 11 v 8 Mané (Salah +3)
    _
    GW11 Salah 15 v 10 Mané (Salah +5)
    GW12 Salah 16 v 3 Mané (Salah +13)
    GW13 Salah 7 v 1 Mané (Salah +6)
    GW14 Salah 13 v 13 Mané
    GW16 Salah 11 v 2 Mané (Salah +9)
    _
    GW19 Salah 10 v 2 Mané (Salah +8)
    GW21 Salah 14 v 6 Mané (Salah +8)
    GW23 Salah 11 v 7 Mané (Salah +4)
    GW25 Salah 8 v 6 Mané (Salah +2)
    GW26 Salah 15 v 3 Mané (Salah +12)
    GW27 Salah 13 v 3 Mané (Salah +10)
    GW28 Salah 10 v 7 Mané (Salah +3)
    GW29 Salah 8 v 8 Mané
    GW30 Salah 2 v 7 Mané (Mané +5)

In 30 gameweeks, either one or both players have returned attacking points in 17 matches.
Salah has outscored Mané on 13 of those occasions.
Mané has outscored Salah on just 2 occasions.
2 matches resulted in ‘draws’, GW14 and GW29.

Both players blanked in just 4 matches when on the pitch together (mci, stk, LEI, swa).

Captaincy gains that would be made on these occasions as follows (assuming you owned both players):
    Salah – 13, 12, 10, 9, 8, 8, 6, 5, 5, 4, 3, 3, 2
    Mané – 7, 5

Salah(c) averages a 6.8pt gain, in matches when he outscored Mané.
Mané(c) averages a 6.0pt gain, in matches when he outscored Salah.

Salah is also more than 6x as likely (13/17) to outscore Mané (2/17) in games where either or both make attacking returns.

Finally, to note in the other 9 matches where one player didn’t play a minute due to rotation, injury or suspension:
Mané played one match with Salah rested and scored 8 pts.
    Salah played 8 matches with Mané not included and scored 10, 9, 8, 7, 7, 5, 4 (*missed pen), 3 (*blank) pts.

Again, it’s utter domination for Mo…and the hope of gaining any significant 1-off advantage from Mané seems incredibly unlikely. Historically, Mané may be viewed as a more explosive returner than Firmino, however this season you would be extremely lucky to gain even 6 pts from a Mané punt (twice in 30 attempts) when owning both players, and more than 6 times more likely to lose 6 pts.

    _
Best of luck to any differential captainers this weekend – you’re going to need it!!!
And, if you do happen to ‘pull it off’, don’t you dare pat yourself on the back, just be grateful for your jammyness extraordinaire! 🙂

Hi DZ, would appreciate some help here:

        Butland
        VVD Schindler Kabasele
        Salah Shaqiri Stanislas
        Firmino Quaner

*aware Kabasele is out and Shaq is a doubt

Still have 1 FT, willing to take a hit, which two of these to bring in?
        A. Baines
        B. Zaha
        C. Mounie
        D. all 3 for a -8

        Thanks all

A, or Ayew instead who should be 5.3M very soon.
Murray has terrible fixtures after GW 34.

Best front 3 on WC from

        A Aubameyang Lukaku Barnes/Murray
B Aubameyang Vardy Firmino (got lot of value in Firmino but no double in 34)

          B. Firmino has good fixtures to risk going without, and Liverpool score more than ManUtd.
If Firmino brings you points in gws32+33, you could even take a hit to upgrade him to Lukaku just before dgw34.

          Lukaku too expensive.
Salah and Auba are good enough captaincy options.

Im going with this, my final FH draft, make of it what you want, there's a couple of gambles for sure!

        Butland
        Baines Coleman PVA
        Salah Mane Stanislas Zaha
        Wilson King Firmino

Seems a bit silly to have Butland there. Hoping for a nil-nil? I'd go for Begovic in that setup. Other than that looks perfect.

I honestly can't choose between wilson and king! So im going for both. Could take a big gamble and go pickford?!? Triple everton defence tho. Or lossl?

Begovic is junk and reason they can't keep CS. I'd only gamble on Smith playing OOP

I agree but WBA is awful and don't score. Bournemouth has around 40% chance for CS. Would rather have Begovic than Butland in this particular FH team. Lossl is an option but that would mean dropping Zaha. Not sure who I'd replace him with. I prefer Bego+Zaha than Lossl+someone

          Salah Mane Stan Allen
          Firmino Wilson Mounie

          No hits still have FH.

You really need Stoke 0-0 Everton for pay off but good chance that is score

Seeing as Salah's ownership is now at 62%, are we safe to assume that a massive one-third of teams are now essentially dead? I mean, really, this week, who doesn't own him?

Anything here worth a hit? Closest rival looks to be on -8 and is 70+ points behind.

        (No GK)
        Zanka / Robertson / Kenny

        Wilson / Firmino
