Scout Notes – Salah Hits New Heights

Liverpool stroll past Watford 5-0 as Mohamed Salah single-handedly ensures a bumper haul for most Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers despite Gameweek 31’s reduced schedule.

The Egyptian was captained by 1.9 million (33.8%), 93 of the top 100 FPL managers and, as revealed by Ragabolly in his new article, 88.8% of the top 10,000.

A further 20,137 used their Triple Captain chip on him – 77.8% of the 25,883 played.

All that backing paid off as Salah delivered a first hat-trick in a Liverpool shirt, with four goals in total (from four shots), an assist and maximum bonus points bringing in a season’s best tally – by any player – of 29 points.

The records he’s accruing stretch ever further.

He’s now scored or assisted in 13 of his 15 home starts this season (17 goals and six assists), netted in his last six home Gameweeks (11 goals) and produced 14 double-figure scores in all.

For all these reasons, even without a double Gameweek to come, Salah surely has to be retained by all bar the bravest of managers.

Liverpool’s fixtures (cry eve BOU wba STK che BHA) are certainly strong enough to support more Salah hauls, but the situation is not so clear-cut for Liverpool’s other attackers.

More than 531,000 managers brought in either Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane ahead of today’s deadline and both delivered.

The latter produced two assists for Salah, both somewhat fortunate as the main man did most of the work to score from them, but it was a fourth successive Gameweek of returns from Mane nonetheless.

Firmino, meanwhile, was denied a first-half strike by a smart Orestis Karnezis save, but got his goal with an audacious flick from Salah’s cross after the break.

The Brazilian now has three goals and two assists from the last five starts, but he is arguably now disposable as managers move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy ahead of their forthcoming double Gameweeks.

That trio are already among the top four most bought ahead of Gameweek 32, although Firmino is currently right behind them in fifth.

Firmino and Mane’s form could also have a bearing on those pondering the Gameweek 32 or 33 Wildcard.

Liverpool go to Palace next and have three of the next four away from Anfield.

Firmino has three goals and two assists from his last six away trips. Indeed, two goals and an assist have arrived over his last three, with the recent defeat at Manchester United his only blank in that run.

Mane has been less productive – he has just a single goal and two assists from his last six appearances on the road. That last strike away from home came back in Gameweek 22 at Burnley.

The other factor to consider is that Liverpool face their Champions League Quarter Final with Manchester City four days after the trip to Palace, with the second leg to follow the Merseyside derby in Gameweek 33. Rotation has not been a concern when considering the Liverpool front three for several months, but this period will certainly be a test for Klopp’s resolve in that respect.

Elsewhere, those managers who didn’t solely invest in the Liverpool front three enjoyed a clean sheet – the side’s 13th of the season – from the likes of Virgil van Dijk and the excellent Andrew Robertson, who boosted his reputation with a superb cross for Salah’s second goal.

That was the full-back’s second assist in four Gameweeks, although there was no such joy for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 3.9% ownership as Joe Gomez returned to the starting line-up after a five-match absence.

Even Robertson’s first double-digit haul of the season is unlikely to save him, or any of his backline colleagues, as managers look for defenders with double Gameweeks to potentially boost their returns.

Substitute Danny Ings set up the final goal on a record-breaking FPL day when many managers ended up with 100+ points from just the four matches played.

I don't see the value in Lukaku, he rarely ever looks capable of exploding so you won't captain him, he'll just tick along. Vardy could give you what he gives for far less if going down that route but I'd prefer Auba and Firmino up top with Barnes on bench in lieu of premium mids as they look far more capable of exploding and bringing in more points.

Silva/Sterling are the best options. I personally think a double up could work but admittedly it carries risk if rotation starts. However if it doesn't they still continue being brilliant options, even if playing it risk adverse, I think 1 is still necessary.

chilwell could be morgan if you want a leicester defender. bailly could be an option if you want safe route into united defense, swansea defender, maybe newcastle defender, burnley defender? dunk is no point imo, brightons fixture is bad and he plays with his heart outside his shirt which unfortunately comes with a fair share of own goals to his name. Robertson is mentioed and if you want a pool defender i´d go for him ( decent fixtures long term but no dgw ofc). If you go cheap on your third striker it might give you enough funds for willian?

Get some players from teams foghting relegation and teams scrapping for European places. Don't be suckered into getting expensive off-form players like Sanchez when the likes of Zaha could bring you more points.

do something with your bench, Jones is injured and will be for some time. Quaner is no ppoint from now on, hennesy no dgw so one cheap playing keeper that has dgw? downgrade jones to a 4.5 ish defender with double, and then you can get a cheap third striker with dgw in 34?

going three city could be gold but also could backfire, and their immediate fixture is United and Spurs, so even if they are the best team those opponents is not a walk in the park, so i might have considered one of them out but not easy to predict who.

Looks good. We'll only know once the fixtures are announced after the cup games have been played but on what's been anticipated that looks fine for 37. Does look more suited to a BB in 34, not sure what you plan to do re BB & TC though.

No. Mkhi and Monreal are good options & there's no issue with bringing them in but you don't need them given the options you already have. Also they don't have a dgw in 37. You have strong premium defensive options already re monreal and Auba re Mkhi & you can bring them in on free hit for 35.

Yes. But depends on your chips tbh. A free hit in a dgw could prove lucrative if you've blown your TC and BB but the conventional strategy is to free hit in 35 as Spurs, United and possibly Chelsea & Leicester blank that gw

Just wanted to own up to my horrible gameweek and season. After ditching Salah all the way back in GW23, I realised today how important it is to keep those popular players and how much it can cost you if they haul. To make things worse, I had prepared for gw31 by bringing in 10 players and my mini league opponent only 4. I looked with glee as he made no trades this week and still had Kane as captain.
And the jammy so n so got 68 with Salah VC, and I got 43, pulling out to a lead of 94 points ahead of me.
I have slid down from 23k in gw23 to 431k in gw 31.. it's been a rubbish season.

        Think again about Chilwell.
I owned him when he played eve SWA mci STK BOU, for him to return 1 0 1 2 2.
        Avoid.

I only got him in two weeks ago and he got 5 points against WBA for me, so I’m satisfied with him!

How did all who didn't use FH chip fared this weekend ?

I managed to put 10 players and no goalie with a 4 point hit. Got 107 points and rank up to 12K from 20K.

Would be nice to hear from you all.

    Cheers

Had 10 players, no hits, Niasse didnt play... Double up on Liverpool defense somehow worked 😮

89pts, small green but will happily take that. Was expecting red to be honest, didnt had Firmino/Mane 😀

Can't complain there. I guess saving the FH should turn out to be a nice differential now.

        9 players inc (-8)
        109 points so net 101. Up 40k from 130k to 90k.
Mili, Stanislas, PVA, Rodriguez and even Quaner getting unexpected points.

Wow..That's a very nice Jump. If you still have other chips left. You may just be able to march towards 10K.

Next GW is two weeks away - could get injured in training what not. Think Gabon have a game also (though whether he plays). I'd wait for the sake of probably 0.1m.

So..Here in India they have a show dedicated for FPL...30 mins. I don't know if it is broadcasted in other countries too but that's not the point.

Our dear Mark provides FPL advice and in the last show one guy asked Mark if triple captaining Salah would be a good idea.

Of course Mark suggested to use the TC chip in a DGW.

I wonder if that guy still used it.
