Scout Scribbles – Christensen Scare For Blues

The international break starts with some mixed defensive news for Chelsea, while the in-form Riyad Mahrez helps steers Algeria to victory.

Denmark’s 1-0 win over Panama – one of England’s World Cup opponents – was achieved without Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen.

The versatile defender has returned to Stamford Bridge after missing out last night, with his national manager, Age Hareide, playing down the severity of his injury:

“Andreas Christensen has been sent home to London. We do not want to take any risks with him. I cannot say exactly what is wrong with Christensen, but it is a little fatigue. It’s not serious, but it can be. It is a bit frustrating because we would have liked to trial him in both central defence and as a defensive midfielder.”

Priced at just 5.3 in Fantasy Premier League, interest in Christensen is on the rise as the cheapest route into a defence that is one of just six set to play twice in Gameweek 34, with the Blues travelling to Southampton and Burnley.

Antonio Conte could, however, have David Luiz back in contention for the Gameweek 32 home encounter against Spurs on April 1, with the Brazilian stepping up his recovery from an ongoing knee problem.

Returning to the Denmark match, the usual FPL suspects of Christian Eriksen and Kasper Schmeichel started for the Danes, while Huddersfield centre-half Mathias Jorgensen was also handed a rare international appearance and his club colleague, Jonas Lossl, was on the bench.

Eriksen is likely to be in the plans of many an FPL manager as Spurs have an upcoming Double Gameweek 34 involving Man City at home and a trip to Brighton, as well as another double probably taking in a trip to West Brom and a visit from Newcastle.

But any of his 14.5% ownership watching yesterday’s match would have been dismayed to discover the Panamanians in combative mode for what was meant to be a friendly, as Hareide alluded to post-match.

“You play a friendly, especially between two teams that will play in the World Cup, and you take it a little bit more easy – but I think that’s their style and the referee has to decide about that.”

Eriksen survived and was replaced after 64 minutes for purely tactical reasons, while the 4.7% who own Schmeichel were at risk of losing their man to serious injury when he was the victim of a studs-first challenge to the midriff from Blas Pérez that narrowly missed connecting with the Leicester man’s face.

Pérez was sent off, the Danes won and all ended well, with Denmark back in action on Tuesday against Chile.

As for Panama, they’re also playing again that day against Switzerland, so the 12.6% of managers with Xherdan Shaqiri in their squads will no doubt be grateful that their man is missing the international break with a minor calf issue.

Vokes shines as Bale makes hay

Burnley striker Sam Vokes scored one goal and set up two more as Wales cruised to a 6-0 win over China.

His turn was not the star one, however, as a Gareth Bale hat-trick confirmed the Real Madrid man as his country’s all-time record goalscorer.

Then again, Vokes is used to playing second fiddle at club level as well – he’s currently third in the attacking pecking order at Burnley behind in-form duo Ashley Barnes (three goals in as many Gameweeks) and Chris Wood (three in two).

The Clarets’ schedule (wba wat LEI CHE) includes a double in Gameweek 34 that is prompting interest in their assets, yet despite his fine 63-minute performance yesterday, Vokes’ role as a bit-part player under Sean Dyche will ensure we steer clear.

New Wales manager Ryan Giggs also handed starts to Wayne Hennessey, Ashley Williams, Ben Davies, Joe Allen and Andy King, with the latter providing an assist.

Spurs full-back Davies (23.2%) and the 2.0%-owned Stoke City man Allen played 70 and 63 minutes respectively, the others the full 90.

All are likely to be back in action for the final of the China Cup on Monday, when they will play the winners of today’s other semi-final between Uruguay and the Czech Republic.

Elsewhere…

Gabon and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is missing his country’s Long’s Cup duties in Bangkok as his grandmother has passed away.

The 8.3%-owned striker has been attracting a lot of FPL interest as the Gunners’ schedule (STK SOT new WHU) includes a fixture in the reduced Gameweek 35 slate and Europa League ineligibility makes him virtually nailed-on for league duty.

On the flip side, the news that Arsenal do not have a double in Gameweek 34 has dampened some of the enthusiasm in their key assets.

Meanwhile, Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez (10.7%) is another in many managers’ Wildcard plans on the back of a good set of fixtures (bha NEW bur SOT) that includes two matches in Gameweek 34.

Indeed, since yesterday’s confirmation of the Double Gameweek 34, he is the fifth most bought player in the last 24 hours.

The winger’s fine domestic form – he has two goals and an assist from his last two Gameweeks – was carried into the international break as he set up two of Algeria’s strikes in a 4-1 friendly win over Tanzania.

Mahrez recovered from a slight muscle issue to play the full 90 minutes yesterday and is expected to be back in action again on Tuesday, away in Iran.

Anyone else thinking Salah out in 37 (Chelsea away) to make way for Kane (tc)? It’s looking like it will be the only way i can afford Kane without taking out a DGW player or holding a big chunk of funds now on WC

I'd think long and hard. I'm planning to ship Son/Sterling rather than Salah but it's personal preference. Could also change if Liverpool beat City in the quarter final

I wouldn't fancy watching Liverpool and hoping Salah didn't score

    DDG Ryan
    Alonso Bailly Mustafi Tarko Morgan

    Auba Vardy Murray

    0.5m itb

    GW33: hold

    Thanks in advance!

      1. Robbie Slater

I think Murray outscores Barnes over the next two GWs, but then can't see him starting both in GW34 at his age. Burnley don't score loads on the road so don't see Barnes scoring loads over next two GWs, but think he is more likely than Murray to play in both GW34 games, which are at home for Burnley. Also gives a chance to see how/if Barnes and Wood are played together over next two, whereas Murray is relatively nailed for those two games.

I don't think about it in terms of money on the bench, it's about who has the greatest chance of points in any given week, Murray & Gross v Huddersfield is very enticing v a defensive Mou side away to City.

What would need to happen to really ruin folks who plan to WC in GW33?

    - No Injuries
    - No Price Rises

Just wondering if there really is much benefit to WC in GW33 as opposed to GW32...

I guess if next week there are a number of injuries then that might wipe the smile of GW33 WC'ers

    1. Going Home
      • 12 Years

My guess is that people playing WC for 33 either played their FH last week or had only 5/6 starters last week and therefore didn't have a lot of deadwood they needed to remove. Therefore it would only be injuries which would force their hand this week

I am almost willing to sacrifice Kane TC points in GW37 as long as those who WC in GW33 get below average returns...for some reason just think there is some smugness of those who plan to WC next week when there is little extra benefit

People will make their own choices, but I am not bringing Kane back until I see him start a game. If I miss one or two returns, so be it. Realistically, with a blank in 35, I'm targeting GW36 to bring him in to TC him in 37

if you want to WC then do in 32 or 36

personally for me since i have already exhausted my FH,i will be less inclined to go mad on dgw34 players but instead use it on 36 to bring only dgw36 players an then bench boost with a full 15 roster to get maximum impact in dgw37

Nobody knows if there will be any benefit either way - it's all theoretical at this stage.

Many squads arrived at GW32 full of GW31 dross with bad 32 fixtures - of course they have to WC now.
Some planned to dead-end their teams into a GW33 to gain more knowledge in advance of a GW34 BB - it may pay off.
Others have an open road strategy, with a (relatively) longer term vision looking to GW35/36 WC, perhaps FH in 34...

      All strategies are viable.
All could suceed or fail spectacularly.

One thing is for sure - it's going to be a very interesting end to the season watching all the differenct scenario's play out 🙂

I think that our end of season chip strategies are being massively influenced by our BGW31 strategies to an enormous degree, but that this is being completely washed under the carpet due to the pre-31 groupthink that 'dead-ending' your team into 31 was a 'wise' route to take - and a lack of desire to retrospectively, constructively analyse what unfolded.

Anyone buying Shaqiri's and Walcott's in the lead up to 31 is now locked into a GW32 WC because they simply have to get the muck out. Personally, I limited my investment in teams that had a poor 32 fixture 'to a degree', so that I could just bench those players this week (Mili, Baines, RLC). Barring any injuries forcing me in to a WC of my own, I am happy play the likes of Stanislas, Schindler and the Liverpool trio this week.

I arrived at this strategy, not really out of foresight, more a lack of gut desire to bring in Walcott and co.(!), but it's something I will definitely bear in mind for future BGW's.

Fair comments, I think you described me pretty spot on, I was one such mug to bring in Walcott and was glad to get rid of the riff raffle like Ogbana, Richarlison but also my hand was forced by the Ayew RC and Kane injury

It simply had to be a WC

    – You can build yourself a mega first 11 of DGWers (possibly even stretching to Auba + Kane + Aguero up top) with a cruddy bench of 3.9-4.3 players.

    – That's the only week where Salah doesn't have a good fixture (you'll want him back the next week.)

    – You can plan to have decent players for GW35 and even look at using your TC on Salah that week.

    – GW34 isn't bad for a bench boost when you look at some of the SGW options (Liverpool & Arsenal, in particular.)

This case has probably been made and debunked before, but just chipping in to the great debate!

In order to field a full 11 in GW35 without hits or chips, the maximum number of DGW players you can have in GW34 is 9 including 3 Burnley. That's not enough IMO.

Yes I agree. I'm coming back round to the GW34 BB due to the fixutres enjoyed by single game week teams - Arsenal and Liverpool in particular. They also enjoy a nice run of fixtures directly before and having that fixture in 35 is so key.

On GW35, I'm really hoping that City put Liverpool out the CL so the Liverpool assets will be at little risk of rotation and the City assets are easier to predict - the CL semi finals are 2/3 days after.

I prefer GW37 for the TC due to the possible alternatives to Harry Kane who'll be the majority's choice if he's fit. If you're chasing it could really pay off to bet against him.

Those looking to sell Salah in GW37 for Kane do you not want Kane back in GW36 (WAT) only?

Salah faces Stoke at home in GW36 so you definitely won’t sell him.

And if you do sell him in GW37 won’t you want him back for GW38 (BHA)?

Re-organize for my last post :
Am on wlid card and i haven't a free hit :
Am going with this team :

    Courtoi-Karius
    Christensen-Smalling-Simpson-Lowton-Prodl
    Mahrez-Son-Salah-Willian-Mkhi
    Lukaku-Vardy-Barnes

    > BB34 with 11 doublers + Salah and Karius (BOU) Prodl (hud) Mkhi (new)
    > 6 Players for GW35 : Karius-Prodl-Lowton-Salah-Mkhi-Barnes + 2FTs ( Auba + Man City MID + Arsenal Def to play GW35 and loading them to DGW37 )

What do you think about my plan !?

Hm? Not a fan of the fixtures the early WC is a sorry template. How about mine

    DDG // Ryan

Lowton Tarkowski Alonso // Christensen/Smalling* Morgan

    Salah Mahrez* Son Willian* Gross

    Kaku Vardy // Austin

*** can perhaps be > Vertonghen Hazard Ibe as a very minor template breaker

What would you do with this team? I have no WC but all other chips.

    DDG
    VVD, Simpson, Dummett
    Stanislas, Salah, D Silva, Mahrez
    Barnes, Aubameyang, Firmino

    Hennessey, Pritchard, Van Aanholt, Bauer

    A) Take hits to get more DGW 34 players in and play BB then
    B) Use FH in 34 and BB in 37

There *could* be fixtures added to GW35 (it's unlikely, but one or more of the fixtures to be rearranged could be played in the midweek after GW35 fixtures)

      1. Teror
        • 9 Years
        6 years, 1 month ago

Long-term planning mainly. I don't want to be left stuck out by dropping players I've got value in, like Firmino. I've stuck with three Liverpool because Salah is god and Roberston could feasibly score a goal/get an assist and a clean sheet in a single gameweek which is effectively the same amount of points that you might get from a DGW player of lesser calibre.

And also, I didn't realise how few of my players have a DGW in 34. Might have to rethink this now.

    WC team:

    DDG | Courtois
    Alonso | Verthongen | Lowton | Morgan | Dunk
    Salah | Mahrez | Son | Willian | 4.3
    Firmino | Auba | Vardy

    GW34 transfers (-4):
Auba, Vardy, Mee > Lukaku, Murray, Valencia

BenchBoost in GW34, FH in GW35

    Any feedbacks?

    Current team:

    Foster Elliot

    Baines Alonso VVD Mee Kenny

    Salah Shaqiri Richarlison Stanislas Walcott

    Ayew Kane Firmino

Got £2.1 ITB and 1FT - have saved WC and had originally planned to use it now (have been away for last week or so and missed DGW announcements). What is the best strategy now - I have all chips but feel I've dead-ended my team going into GW31.

    All help much appreciated!

This part of the article is incorrect "Christensen is on the rise as the cheapest route into a defence that is one of just six set to play twice in Gameweek 34, with the Blues travelling to Southampton and Burnley."

Eight teams have a DGW34, it's six teams that has a double in both GW34 and GW37.

The remaining 6 postponed PL games being played in GW37 was mentioned in yesterdays announcement. So barring any unforeseen developments Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, Leicester, Southampton and Brighton.

Earlier in the season, I championed Hazard and he kindly tripped me up and kicked me in the chest until I spat out blood.

This time I am championing the heavyweight that is Aub...appreciate everyone is ditching him for the likes of Vardy, Lukaku, Murray etc but for me he will stay for quite a few GWs as my #Patch #Differential

Hopefully Aub is more like my Arnie and Mahrez purchase rather than Hazard History
