Captain Poll – Gameweek 32

With Premier League action finally resuming this weekend we have launched our latest Captain Poll to gauge your views on the best armband options for Gameweek 32.

After a sensational Fantasy Premier League haul of 29 points at home to Watford last time out, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (10.7) looks set to dominate the voting.

Four goals against the Hornets took his league tally to 28 and a commanding position in the Golden Boot race, four ahead of Spurs’ Harry Kane.

Next up in the league for the Egyptian, who scored in his country’s 2-1 loss to Portugal on Friday, is a trip to a Crystal Palace side that has only one clean sheet in their last eight matches. Over that period the Eagles have conceded 15 goals, the third worst record in the league.

Salah, meanwhile, has proved to be as devastating on the road as he has been at Anfield. Away from home, he has had more big chances (16) than any other player and is second only to Kane in terms of goals (11 to 13), shots in the box (37 to 42) and efforts on target (20 to 23).

His team-mates Roberto Firmino (9.7), who scored his 14th goal of the campaign in last weekend’s Watford encounter, and Sadio Mane (9.5), who recorded two assists in that game, could also garner interest.

However, there is a slight caveat to entrusting a Liverpool asset with the armband this weekend, as there is the possibility of rotation ahead of their Champions League quarter-final first leg tie against Manchester City, which takes place the following Wednesday.

The same fear may curtail interest in Sky Blues players. But with a favourable visit to Everton, they still merit consideration.

The Toffees have just one shut-out in their last four Goodison Park encounters, while on the road Pep Guardiola’s troops are the top side for shots (250), efforts in the box (149) and attempts on target (90).

David Silva (8.1) is their most prolific player away from home of late, with six goals over his last four road trips, the same number his team-mate Sergio Aguero has scored away from the Etihad Stadium all season. However, the Spaniard’s withdrawal from international duty this week for personal reasons may dent confidence in the playmaker.

Another City man to impress over their last four away matches is Leroy Sane (8.6), who scored twice over that timeframe from nine shots.

Arsenal’s Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang (10.6) is likely to put in a strong challenge for the summit against relegation-embattled Stoke at the Emirates Stadium. The former Borussia Dortmund striker is cup-tied for his side’s Europa League campaign, which should ensure he leads the line on Sunday.

A pair of nine-point returns in his last two league outings underlines his captaincy credentials, as does the Potters’ poor form on the road. Over their last six away days Paul Lambert’s men have shipped 12 goals, kept just one clean sheet and conceded 111 shots, with only West Ham (115) allowing more over that period.

Aubameyang is this week’s second bought player among, attracting over 143,000 new owners.

The most popular, with 152,000+ transfers in, is Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku (11.4), who is on a fine run of form with four goals and three assists over the last eight Gameweeks. He collides with a Swansea City defence that have managed just a single clean sheet in their last 12 away matches.

Chelsea’s home clash with Spurs looks tough to call and may see their assets struggle for votes. However, with an average of 3.6 goals a game in their last five meetings, there is merit in entrusting one of their attacking options with the armband.

For the hosts, Willian (7.1) has been making the most of his recent opportunities, with three goals and an assist in his last four starts. Although he has only made the first XI on 16 occasions this season, the Brazilian’s recent form should ensure he is among the first to be selected by Antonio Conte for Sunday’s match.

Three double-digit FPL points hauls, six goals and assist over his last nine matches also makes Eden Hazard (10.6) a key captaincy candidate to consider.

Spurs’ main contender for votes is likely to be Son Heung-min (8.3), who has notched four goals in as many league matches and looks set to lead the line in the absence of the injured Harry Kane. With more than 84,000 new owners since Gameweek 31, the South Korean is the most popular midfield acquisition among FPL managers.

Dele Alli (8.9)’s two goals and an assist in his last four, means that he can never be ruled out of the reckoning.

Christian Eriksen (9.4)’s two goals over his last four in the league, coupled with a brace in the FA Cup sixth round against Swansea this month, makes him another strong alternative option among the Spurs ranks.

Leicester’s trip to Brighton presents voters with a raft of further differential candidates, in particular, the hosts’ number ten Pascal Gross (6.0). Over his last six run outs the German has a goal, three assists and, along with Eriksen, has delivered the joint third highest number of key passes (18).

The main beneficiary of Gross’ creativity is likely to be the Seagulls’ veteran striker Glenn Murray (6.0), who has registered five goals over his last six games, an impressive tally only bettered by Salah and Aguero.

Claude Puel’s men have been in an obliging mood away from the King Power stadium, conceding 12 and keeping just one clean sheet.

But while suspect at the back, the Foxes boast two worthy armband candidates in attack. Over his last eight starts, winger Riyad Mahrez (8.9) has scored five goals and assisted a further three. Striker Jamie Vardy (8.8) has also impressed, scoring seven in his last 11.

Brighton’s failure to keep a clean sheet since Gameweek 21 enhances the case for captaining one of Leicester’s attacking duo.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 32 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Salah has a higher RMT score for his single game in 34 than 11 of my DGW players 😯

Son was a bit of a surprise but then it is Salah! He could bang 4 in again and make all the casuals go flying ahead of us planners 🙂

'Casuals' putting faith in the best player in the game at home against a leaky side. Interesting use of the term!

Salah x1 outscoring Son, Mahrez etc. x2 is very plausible!

Aye. It is. But as possible in a one off game as it is, would you rather Salah for 38 games, or say, Mahrez for 72 if that was possible? Over the long term, he doesn't outscore such a player by twice their total. Doucoure's ppg x2 beats Salah's x1

Are we sometimes a bit too clever for our own good ? Planning DGW players because they may (will probably be rotated or subbed early) have 2 games and ignoring better players with one game ?

By ‘planners’ do you mean the spoon fed FFS herd ? 😉

THIS is why I am thinking about holding onto Firmino for DGW34 bench boost and not take a hit to get a DGW player just because they're playing more games. Fielding 15 DGW players isn't always going to get the best results

Think alonso is safe. Not convinced by willian. Should be nailed as he's been their best player.
But it is a risk if you go with willan imo

Willian is a more budget option so people are happier to have him in their teams than Alonso, so this bias is putting a lot of people in denial that he is a massive rotation risk.

You can replace Alonso for any defender in the game - pretty much zero decent options for replacing Willian unless you make other changes.

On a wildcard, would you stay clear of Davies? are his minutes too much of an issue to have in the team?

    Also, Firmino or Vardy?

I have Davis. Not sure what I would do if on a wildcard though. I'd perhaps switch out to vert for pitch time security. Alder may be back though. I'd love to have home for attacking points potential

I'm torn. For me it's not so much the minutes so much as his next 3 fixtures are quite tricky. I would lose 0.2 if I transferred out, which is another consideration.

      Firmino over Vardy for me.

Please don't think I'm scaremongering here. I discussed this a few days ago and I beleive there could be relevant explanations as to why the rest of the postponed fixtures haven't been released yet.

The teams that are in the FA Cup Quarter Final have a blank ganeweek in GW35.
However, all of these teams no longer have European commitments.
Therefore there is every chance and likelihood that these fixtures may well still be played in GW35. As there are now space in the midweek of GW35 for these teams.

    Meaning perhaps no Blank GW35.

    And a smaller double GW37.

Surely the TV etc. would dictate that this would have to be announced very very quickly.

Possible, but there is space in GW37 and I don't think the PL would put a match up against a CL match unless they had to - bear in mind overseas ratings could be massively hit if a game is scheduled for the same night as - say - a Barcelona v Bayern Munich CL semi. Time will tell though, and I hope you are right 🙂

I don't necessarily read it that way ?

I read that as they have not decided the broadcasting of the weekend games in 37or the midweek games (if any?), and when that is decided then the postponed matches will be re-scheduled .... but nothing that says they will be rescheduled in 37 ? maybe yes, maybe no ?

'The remaining postponed matches will be confirmed when the broadcast selections for Matchweek 37 have been finalised.'

B, then to Aubamyang to Kaku for DGW34, although personally go GroB and Barnes over Sterling and Quaner which will probable leave enough ITB to get Kaku for DGW34 without using a second FT.

Haven't read the Gross article, but do people think he's a better bet than Murray?

I think Murray will share pitch time with Locadia in the DGW, which does limit his appeal.

Does this promote the appeal of Gross who is surely more nailed? The caveat though is finding space for him in our midfield, when the likely lads of Willian, Son, Mahrez, Salah and, to a lesser extent, Gudmundsson are likely to command a spot.

Decided between Gudmundsson and Murray or Gross and Barnes is a very popular topic on here. Been on Gross and Barnes all week. Will probably stick with those.

I think I’m opting for Murray. He’s in good form and has pens. His next 3 looks good for returns (LEI, HUD, cry) which he should start. My worry would only be the 2nd game of DGW against Spurs. But I think if he keeps scoring goals he will start that also.

Yes he might get subbed off near 70-80 but I’ll take that.

Thoughts on which is the best option? I'm swaying towards C, although I'm not overly keen on a Burnley defensive double up.

    A. De Gea, Vertonghen, Christiansen, Barnes, 0.5 ITB
    B. Lloris, Lowton, Alonso, Murray, 0 ITB
    C. De Gea, Lowton, Vertonghen, Murray, 0.7 ITB

The players I'm fairly sure on are:

    Ryan
    Smalling, Tarkowski, Morgan
    Salah, Mahrez, Son, Willian, Gross
    Aubameyang*, Murray

*1.0 kept aside to get Lukaku in week 34.

Arsenal Midfielder option to partner with Auba in relation to EL rotation.

Total minutes played in the last 5 games in the PL / Average points per game over the last 5 games

    Mkhitaryan - 406/450 = 90% / 6.4 PPG
    Ramsey - 180/450 = 40% / 4.4 PPG
    Ozil - 450/450 = 100% / 2.8 PPG

Ozil looks like very much nailed on with Mkhi given more gametime in the PL to have more understanding with team mates imo. Ramsey meanwhile was injured in 2 games but is most prone to be rotated for the EL given his injury record and importance to the team.

Its fair to say Mkhi is nailed in the PL regardless of EL duties and has a good record of bringing in points plus a good understanding with Aubameyang.

    Current team:

    Foster Elliot

    Baines Alonso VVD Mee Kenny

    Salah Shaqiri Richarlison Stanislas Walcott

    Ayew Kane Firmino

Got £2.1 ITB and 1FT - have saved WC and had originally planned to use it now (have been away for last week or so and missed DGW announcements). What is the best strategy now - I have all chips but feel I've dead-ended my team going into GW31.

WC active. No Free Hit. BB+TC in hand. Plz help!!!!11!!!!1!1!!111one!!

    De Gea, Ryan
    Smalling, Tarkowski, Stephens, Morgan, Robertson,
    Son, Mahrez, GroB, Gudmundson, Salah
    Lukaku, Vardy, Barnes

    Use 1FT between GW32-34 for injuries/tweaks
Use 2FT between GW34-35 to bring in MCI/ARS assets.
Use 1FT between GW35-36 to bring in Kane
Use 1FT between GW36-37 to bring in JAyew

GW37 I'd end up with something like:
    DDG
    Smalling, MCI/ARS, Morgan
    Son, Mahrez, MCI/ARS, Salah,
    Kane, Vardy, Ayew

    Overall leaves me with:
    DGW34 = 13 doublers + Robertson + Salah ------ //BENCH BOOST//
    BGW35 = 7 players (2 x LIV, 3 x BUR, 2 x MCI/ARS)
    DGW37 = 10 doublers + Salah ------- //TRIPLE CAPTAIN (Kane?)//

Does this look like a good rough strategy to aim for (obviously I'm expecting a few curveballs)

      Good one
Same strategy but going to DGW34 with 9 doublers + Robertson + Salah + Karuis + Arnie + Mustafi + Mkhi
      BGW 35 with 11 players for -4
      Thoughts !?

    My plan is

    WC33
    BB34
    FH35
    TC37

    DDG McCarthy
    Alonso Morgan Tarkowski Naughton Dunk
    Gudmundsson Mahrez Kenedy Salah Hazard
    Lukaku Aubamayang Ayew

The Kane news puts a spanner in the works but will have more info by 33

Could easily keep up with Murray and Barnes in 34 , fixtures considered

And one less tranfer to worry about for 37

    1. Lukaku and Murray

    2. Firminho and Vardy

Important detail - I already have Mahrez + Morgan from Leicester and of course Salah, but no exposure to United/Brighton attack. But Liverpool and Leicester score more goals anyway...

Or alternatively I could sacrifice Alonso and have Lukaku and Vardy. That seems risky though

    On WC, no FH chip.

Any major flaws in this plan,

WC team, with DGW34 in mind,

    DDG (Fabianski)
Tarkowski, Lowton, Dunk (Marriappa, La Jeune)
    Son, Gudmundson, Hazard, Salah (Milivojevic)
    Lukaku, Vardy, Aubameyang

So Salah, and Auba my only single GW players.

2FTs in GW35 Lukaku and Hazard to Firmino and a city midfielder

    GW35 team,

    Fabianski
    Tarkowski, Lowton, La Jeune, Marriappa
Salah, Gudmundson, Milivojevic, any city midfielder
    Firmino Aubameyang

    Sound okay?

Yeah not bad. Could you not fit an Arsenal defender in there? Also how would you get Kane in when fit?

I think a little too much uncertainty over Arsenal defence.
        Happy with DDG over Cech.

Instead of Lukaku and Hazard to Firmino and a city mid, I could get someone like Stanislas, which allows funds for Vardy to Kane in 37.

I'm chasing a lead and thinking about going with Lukaku, Auba and Kane (TC probably) for GW37. However to make this happen I realistically need to sell Salah for his last two games (Chelsea away and Brighton home). Is this crazy when I know my rivals will have Salah? Otherwise if I'm to keep Salah who would you get rid of from Lukaku or Auba for GW37? Would probably get Ayew.

Depends how much you’re chasing by, it’s a brave move for sure.
I think it’s unlikely most will captain Salah against Chelsea.

Plenty of time to plan for that - pick closer to GW37 based on form

    current team:

    Pope
    VVD Otamendi Davies
    Salah Stanislas Walcott Shaqiri
    Wilson Firmino Kane

    Speroni Baines VLP Hunemeier

    1 FT, 6.2 ITB

had initially planned to WC but with the announced fixtures I think using my FTs (and a hit) to mould my squad to the DGW34 fixtures might be a better approach... then WC for DGW37...

is: Walcott / Kane >> Mahrez / Lukaku a good move??

then further improvements using FTs in GW33 / 34...

any suggestions would be really appreciated!!

    thanks.

Risky or stupid or good WC?
All chips intact....note the double Leicester defence with my low TV (relatively)
Chasing a 50 point deficit with 5 teams above

    DDG Ryan
    Alonso Mustafi Lowton Morgan Chilwell
    Salah Mahrez Son Willian Kenedy
    Lukaku Aubameyang Barnes

Good plan going forward? I'm on Wildcard.

    (1.5 itb)

    DeGea (Ryan)
    Alonso/Smalling/Morgan (Dunk, Tarkowski)
    Salah/Mahrez/Son/Willian/Gudmundsson
    Auba/Vardy (Barnes)

    GW33: Save
    GW34: Auba -> Lukaku
    GW35: FH
GW36: Lukaku and Gudmundsson -> Kane and 4.4 mid (-4)

Afternoon Gents, any thoughts on this lot on WC with NO FH remaining. Plan to bench boost in GW34. I’ve compromised by taking out Willian who I’m not convinced it nailed with the FA cup looming.

    DDG Hennessy
    Bailly Roberston Tark Lowton Morgan
    Salah Mahrez Son Gudmunsson Ki
    Auba Lukaku Firm

    Gives me:

    GW34: 9 DGW
    GW35: 9 players + 2FT to field 11

      also without the FH.
If we prepare the team for 32+33+34 then we will lost 1FT right?

I'm punting on Mkhi on 32 and changing Willian on 33, then save on 34 and have 2FT on 35.
      Right?

The saving is better for those who have FH available (they can play fixtures for 32+33 and fill with DGWs on 34)

    Hello guys,
Still holding all my chips. What is the consensus for people like me who did not WC this week? Still WC33?
Im currently on taking a few hits for gw34, TC Mahrez, FH35, WC36,BB37. I think it s easier to cover the key gw34 players (mahrez, salah, vardy, willian alonso, son, ...). That enables to have a very differently looking team than most in 37 where fixtures are different/quite amazing. Cheap BB players also look better in 37. The price is TC mahrez instead of Kane...
    All dgw34 teams look alike.
