Fixtures

Frisking the Fixtures – The Strong – Long-Term

After offering our analysis of the teams with the fixture schedules to provide returns on immediate investment,, our focus switches to the longer-term, with our assessment weighted towards a number of sides expected to participate in the yet-to-be-confirmed Double Gameweek 37.

Long-Term

Tottenham Hotspur (che stk MCI/bha blank WAT wba LEI)
There’s no question that the next three Gameweeks looks somewhat troublesome for Spurs with Sunday’s trip to Chelsea perhaps persuading managers to defer their Wildcard until Gameweek 33. While the Wembley meeting with Man City match forms part of a double in Gameweek 34, the combination with a blank a week later provides a downside.

But a home match-up with Newcastle is likely to be part of Double Gameweek 37 alongside a trip to West Brom, with Harry Kane surely destined to be a big contender for the Triple Captain chip at that point.

Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min remain the other key targets, with the latter in the top four for transfers in among midfielders ahead of Gameweek 32. Eriksen’s short-term appeal is lessened due to Son playing up front, though a quick return for Kane would force the South Korean back to the flank and elevate the Dane in our thinking.

Manchester United (SWA mci WBA/bou blank ARS bha WAT)
If Double Gameweek 37 transpires as we expect (bha/whu), then all four of Man United’s opponents in the doubles will be against bottom 11 sides.

Romelu Lukaku is the most popular transfer target this week, although Alexis Sanchez has far better underlying numbers since arriving at Old Trafford.

The appeal of Jesse Lingard has diminished somewhat given that he’s only started one of the last three league matches, although the risk look easier to absorb thanks to his 6.0 price tag. Get back on the scoresheet against Swansea in Gameweek 32 and suddenly Lingard would then become a key Double Gameweek target.

David De Gea is the safe route to defensive returns, which has kept a joint league-high 15 clean sheets. Elsewhere, Chris Smalling currently looks the best option from the defence given the value on offer, although a fit-again Phil Jones could be a factor by Gameweek 37.

Manchester City (eve MUN tot SWA whu HUD sot)
Along with Spurs, City look the outstanding candidates for Double Gameweek 37 if the fixtures (HUD/BHA) drop as expected.

Ultimately, their prospects will depend on their Champions League quarter-final clash with Liverpool, and how quickly they can wrap up the title.

If the league is won early, rotation is likely to be a major issue should they progress in Europe, providing managers with a tricky dilemma as we seek to pinpoint guaranteed starters.

A possible Champions League semi-final first leg would sit between a home fixture with Swansea and the Gameweek 36 trip to West Ham, with the second leg scheduled before the first match of the potential Gameweek 37 double against Huddersfield Town.

David Silva is the in-form attacker, but his ongoing personal issues mean that he is perhaps more susceptible to sit out league matches should City progress in Europe.

If they do get past Liverpool, and if Sergio Aguero is preferred to the 6.1%-owned Gabriel Jesus as the central striker over those two legs, then the Brazilian may be worth a gamble as a differential.

Newcastle United (HUD lei ARS eve WBA wat CHE)
Rafa Benitez’s side have only suffered two defeats from their last ten matches, and have the fixtures to cement their survival.

A probable Double Gameweek 37 would involve a trip to Spurs alongside a visit to Watford, which lessens their appeal somewhat.

Dwight Gayle, Martin Dubravka and Kenedy are all in good form, however, with the latter pair, in particular, providing strong budget options.

The Slovakian goalkeeper has two clean sheets, five save points and two bonus points from just four matches, while Kenedy plundered 16 points to produce the highest individual score of Gameweek 30.

Chelsea (TOT WHU sot/bur blank swa LIV new)
As already mentioned, the home encounter with Spurs could influence when some managers choose to play their Wildcards, with Gameweek 33 a tempting option for those wanting to invest heavily in Chelsea and Spurs assets.

If it drops, Double Gameweek 37 would involve a home clash with Liverpool and a home meeting with Huddersfield.

The value offered by Willian means the in-form Brazilian is likely to be the most popular acquisition for managers using their Wildcard either this week or next. Indeed, he is the third most bought midfielder in the Gameweek so far.

Over the last six matches, he compares very favourably to the more expensive Eden Hazard.

Willian has averaged a shot every 25.5 minutes, significantly superior to Hazard (47.3), and has totalled 35 points, just two less than the Belgian.

His stock is also boosted due to the uncertainty over Antonio Conte’s favoured front man, with Alvaro Morata, Olivier Giroud and potentially Hazard all possible starters in the lone striker role.

Meanwhile, at the back, we stand by Marcos Alonso as the weapon of choice. His price tag of 7.2 does provide a barrier, but César Azpilicueta is just 0.3 cheaper as an alternative but cannot rival his compatriot’s goal threat. Andreas Christensen – at just 5.3 – could be a risk worth taking, though his owners will face an anxious run-in given his record with injuries in recent times.

Strikers have generally proved poorer value this season. Bps seems weighted more against them may be

I've found more success with 1 premium and 2 budget strikers.

GW35 plan? I'm looking at Gross and Lukaku to Sterling and Tosun (giving me 10 players) which will hopefully leave me enough for Auba -> Kane in GW36.

Bailly for me, the fixtures are just better. United having a DGW with WBA and BOU is just the dream, especially when you look at SWA (H) this week.

Vertonghen is a good option but Man City in the double and Chelsea away this week... just feel like the CS potential is higher with United.

I'm looking at double Burnley DEF on my WC - I don't fancy Stephens or Southampton and would prefer to simply stay clear.

With that in mind, this week would you start your double Burnley defence of Tarkowski and Lowton - WBA (A), or play Morgan BHA (A) instead of one of them?

    1. YoungPretender

Thanks. It makes sense. Likely to be starting Groß (unless I swap him for Lingard, god help me) which makes it feel less good also playing Morgan against him, but maybe more comfortable spreading the risk. Burnley CS haven't been super regular lately.

Might just make Tark first sub.

      Dunk.

I just don't like Southampton. Some good def fixtures for other players this week then you definitely don't start Stephens away at Arsenal. Then Chelsea and Leicester away in the double.

Just not feeling it, would rather double Burnley with Tark and Lowton or go Ryan & Dunk to be honest.

Gross is a very popular pick, here are a few of my thoughts on him, as I've seen him in many WC drafts but am a bit unsure if he serves value as a 4th mid (playing) the rest of the way and am pretty confident he should NOT be a 5th mid (bench/non playing/only played in GW34/37):

Brighton are 6 points clear of relegation so *SHOULD* be safe by 37/38 but if they slip up and are only 2-3 points clear, is anyone else concerned about Gross gametime / Brighton fixtures?

Both away matches this year to top opposition, Gross DID NOT start. Hughton did not use him at Tottenham or at Chelsea from the start, he came on for 10-15 minutes in both for 1 point each.

Brighton still have ManCity away (to be scheduled), Liverpool away (GW38), and ManU and Spurs at home. If we assume Hughton will use him from the bench against City (1 pt) and that he only returns 2-2-2 in the LIV/MANU/SPURS matches, then he basically is a 6m asset that HAS to score at Crystal Palace in 34 or home to HUD in 33. Burnley away in 36 isn't an easy fixture. Many wildcard teams I have seen even have him on the bench this week home to Leicester.

I guess I am a bit confused as to the Gross love with his pricetag at 6M. I would understand him at 4.5, 5m, 5.5m, etc. but surely we need to maximize the points on the pitch at this point.

This is why I have gone Auba + Lukaku now and downgraded my 5th mid to Hojberg (4.3m, will only play in DGW34). Just my two cents.

I really wanted to consider/bring in Gross, but for me it would be at the expense of WILLIAN or SON (rotation threatened players with a tough GW32 and potential rest in the latter half of GW34 for FA Cup semifinals), not as a 5th mid.

Ha. Do you agree, then? I would love Gross as a 4TH mid but would mean sacrificing one of Willian or Son. That would mean upgrading a defender to Alonso for me.

As a 5th mid or one you rotate/bench it seems silly to me for 6m. Have to put the MONEY on the PITCH!

My bench will be something like Hojberg - Tarkowski OR Stephens - Dunk.

Are Smalling/Christensen too risky on WC? Downgrading either one to Tarkowski would allow for Gudmondsson + Murray to Gross + Barnes with enough leftover to insure against Lukaku's inevitable price rise.

Don't think they're too risky, but I wouldn't want both if that makes sense. They both offer so much potential with the doubles at that price point that they could easily outscore your potential moves.

I wouldn't want to tie my cash up in both though, knowing that Christensen could be rotated or Smalling could miss one for a returning Jones.

    3. Ibracadabra

Lukaku gives peace of mind, no need to transfer at all. Auba is 2 weeks then out. Leaning towards Auba, seeing we have 2 transfers anyway.

      1. Ibracadabra
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 1 month ago

I have gone with both. If KANE is fit I can go with him in 34 for AUBA, a lot can change in 2-3 weeks too. What if Giroud is injured and MORATA is nailed for two fixtures in 34, etc. I don't want to automatically plan my transfer for LUKAKU, especially as he is picking up form (bagged a brace today), may rise in price if he scores vs SWA this weekend, etc. I'd rather have him already personally. That is why I have sacrificed at the back (no Alonso) and brought in Lukaku with Auba.Vardy.

    Thoughts anyone
    De gea Ryan
    Cedric Morgan Alonso Smalling Lowton
    Miki Mahrez Willian Gross Salah
    Barnes Auba Vardy
Have 2.5 ITB so can get Kane for Auba in one transfer when he's back

Pick holes in this boy. On WC, havent changed it since GW34 was announced.

    De Gea - Fabianski
    Alonso - Dunk - Mustafi - Lowton - Chilwell
    Salah - Son - Mahrez - Wilian - RLC
    Firmino - Murray - Auba

    (+0.1)

With the classic plan of Auba + Son --> Kane + Someone in 34...

Would love someone to pick me apart

Fabianski i would sell if ur BB in 34
Chilwell is a slight rotation risk
      RLC must go !
Mustafi also no good for 34

      Not sold on BRI defence.
      Is Chillwell nailed?
      Mustafi is rotation threat?
      RLC, what?
Murray looks solid but prefer Gross chances of gametime.

      Would welcome same below 🙂

    How is this team?

    DdG Ryan
    Alonso Smalling Tark Lowton Morgan
    Salah Mahrez Son Willian LCook
    Auba Lukaku Murray

If Kane is ready for 34: My “Kane enabler” would be either Alonso to Christensen or Son to Gross.

    Thoughts?

      Really good 🙂
L Cook is good? Maybe upgrade by downgrade Murray?

Do you have free hit? If so, Hojberg is also 4.3m, scored for SOU in cup, may have more attacking threat than Cook and has a double in 37 as well (can be first off the bench in that one, etc.).

    Nice WC-team?
    Would you change something?

    (0.7 itb)
    DeGea (Ryan)
    Alonso/Smalling/Mustafi (Morgan, Lowton)
    Salah/Mahrez/Son/Willian/Gudmundsson
    Auba/Vardy (Barnes)

Planning on Lukaku? If so how?
Team looks good, smalling/mustafi possible worries but nobody seems to have an answer for that as of yet.

        Plan:
        GW33: Save
GW34: Mustafi and Auba -> Dunk and Lukaku

good plan but make sure you leave money in the bank for Lukaku, he may be 0.2m more by then.

That's true..maybe just bring in Dunk and Lukaku now instead if Mustafi and Auba? Or maybe Alonso -> Christensen now? Or Smalling -> Dunk now?

On WC which do you prefer?

    Valencia, Schelotto, Lukaku, Vardy
    Or
    Christensen, Smalling, Auba, Firmino

(Auba and firm would become Lukaku and Vardy for 34)

      I’m currently on Aubameyang

Back him to score at home also salah may be rested for champions league if not taken off early- I know he can do damage in a short amount of time but just my guy feeling

if he returns late or Klopp says something that means he will have limited mins then ill go Auba.

Early kick off also so might just go Auba 🙂

Egypt played in Switzerland today so no long commute for Mo back to Liverpool. He also didn't feature (rested). (C) locked in.

I have 11 for gw35. And planning on fhc in 34. I have BB left, and plan on using it in gw37, just waiting for posponed games left, to be scheduled. Hopefully all go into gw37.

The 4 worst players in my team is:
    - Woodman( non-playing), 4.0 selling.
    - Niasse, 4.8. He has little chance of getting minutes it seem.
    - Bauer, 4.5. Shaqiri, 6.2. Only upside is game in Gw35. Stoke face Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Burnley before gw37.

    4.5 in bank.

I am thinking Woodman to Fabianski. - 0.7 cost transfer.

Bauer to Azpilicueta -2.4 cost transfer.

Shaqiri at 6.2 has many potential replacements.

    -Mahrez 8.9.
    -D. Silva 8.1.
    -Ki, 5.0.
    - Willian 7.0
    - Mkhitaryan 7.7.
    - Hazard 10.6.

-For Niasse, who is holding a forward spot, i am thinking about keeping the price on replacement down, or getting in a more expensive forward.
This would be done by getting Ki in for 5.1. This move would take much of my funds.

    Potential targets:
    - Vardy 8.8.
    - Jesus 10.0.
    - Giroud 8.2.

Is there any other cheap strikers than J. Ayew, that may end up with 2 games in gw37?

So has the consensus on Firmino vs. Vardy been set yet or is it still split down the middle? 🙂

Have owned both for 1-2 months, just sold Firmino for Lukaku on my WC. If I didn't own Vardy already I would keep Firmino and swap in 34. Firmino is the player I am most nervous about "haunting" me in 32-34; but I think Vardy's 32/33 fixtures are just as good, he is on pens, won't be rested (Firmino has Champs League) + plays twice in 34. That edges it for me. Plus he is cheaper. I have a free hit chip so in 35 when Firmino plays can use him then.

I've been very much pro Firmino all along.

One thing I hadn't considered is how valuable that extra transfer might be if I just go for Vardy now

Why would you want to swap Firm for Vardy in GW34?? Madness

      ive got both
but will probably sell firmino either now on wc or before 34
so i guess that means vardy over firmino
