Dugout Discussion – West Ham vs Stoke City

Four nights of Gameweek 34 action begin at the London Stadium where West Ham United host Stoke City with both seeking to earn three points to ease relegation fears.

In truth, a victory for the Hammers tonight would surely seal mid-table safety, though, with a tortuous season run-in ahead of them, a win against the Potters looks vital.

In Fantasy terms, Marko Arnautovic is undoubtedly the key attacking asset on show. He heads into the contest against his former club with nine goals and five assists from his last 14 starts and, despite Chicharito’s equaliser at Chelsea, the Austrian remains the lone striker. Arnautovic scored in the reverse fixture at the bet365 Stadium and fired a brace and 16 points in his last home fixture against Southampton.

Chicharito is kept on the bench, alongside playmaker Manuel Lanzini who makes his return from injury.

Meanwhile, Stoke City’s players are auditioning for bit-part roles in our Gameweek 35 Free Hit squads with Shaqiri and Jack Butland the leading men.

Butland has just a single clean sheet in his last eight starts, though has returned 45 saves and 12 save points over that spell.

As for Shaqiri, his returns have dried up and have been reduced to just a single assist from the last four Gameweeks having struck three in three outings prior to that drought.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think our only hope is if Brighton park the bus and frustrate Spurs, like earlier in the season especially against Burnley, Swansea, Bournemouth, Palace and West Brom to name a few

If they want to stay up they need to win one of these tough games

My FH team has 10 to play. My head to head ML is very tight and could come down to goal difference (i.e. total points). My rivals had frittered away their chips so I was the only one with a clean DGW 11. The biggest threat to me winning has a 35 point lead over me, I was hoping to claw back at least 20 points or so this week.

      My score: 49
His score (with 9 to play): 48

Sanchez and Lukaku had better pull it out the bag tomorrow. So far my saviours have been two of the cheapest players in my team, Long and Milli.

      This game is nuts.

Anyone playing the Sky game have more than 5 transfers left?

Was worried I wouldn't do well in the DGW but it turns out setting up with 5 Liverpool players for the blank GW was a great decision. Not only did they smash it that week; since then they've got me 5 goals and 4 clean sheets and they all got 8-10 points this week.

Hopefully when the rotation starts I can switch in a couple of Spurs or City players.

good call on Liverpool , i've only got Salah from Pool , and i've only 1 transfer left , teams is in good shape with plenty of captain picks and no transfers needed though 🙂

Shows the effect the BB and FH chips have on your mindset in FPL.

After the first blank in Sky I started setting up for the second. Tarkowski and Mahrez were my only players with two games this week but I've avoided any serious damage from not having any Spurs/United/Chelsea. Got 10 players with a game next week.

That said, Mahrez has been a poor pick and I wish I'd gone with Eriksen in both.

    Hey there guys,
What do you reckon of this -12 to field XI for GW35?
    (BB37 pencilled in)

    Quaner + Sanchez + Mahrez + Alonso
    to
    Jesus + Sterling + Sane + Lascelles

Daaaangerous! Rotation could damage you.. maybe you should not be chasing the points (even though it is more fun)

Chasing points, isn't that what its all about haha! I have only 7 GW35 players and I still have my BB for 37. City have by far the best double (yes, rotation is an issue but minor issue compared to the potential points on offer and Lascelles is a good one for BB.

This - they may not all start. I'd rather wait for pressers and bring in 2-3 instead

Although if you're happy having 3x city over your current players for the rest of the season then you should at least be no worse off, Jesus/Sterling/Sane should at least get 12 points between the 3 of them

          • 7 Years

The -12 seems a small price to pay over the run-in if City thump teams along the way (which is likely). Even a cameo appearance from Jesus/Sterling could yield better returns than some other assets!

It was a blatant handball that deserved a pen so it was the right call, just handled terribly.

All this chaos could have been avoided if the refs were alerted earlier or reacted faster and kept the players on the pitch

Yes. What he meant was some players are going to have to impress in the BOU game to get into the semi-final XI. I'm sure my triple of De Gea, Lukaku and Lingard will make the BOU line-up and hopefully play well.

Little bit nervous about 35 without a free hit, expecting an OR drop but my ML rival will no doubt play his. Currently 18 points ahead of him, with Kane(c) and Son to come, he has 0 Spurs, would love a Spurs 4-0

How many starters do you have for GW35?

Surely you've been making transfers with one eye on 35 I hope!

Yeah of course. 7 players for the gameweek and 2 free transfers! Looking to bring in Ederson, Sterling and Zaha for a -4, depending on my lead after this gameweek, i may bring Jesus in

I know it's not ideal, but do you think this is a passable starting 11 for GW 35 for a -8? More importantly, do you think it will beat the average?

      Foster
      Mawson VVD Walker Long
      Salah Walcott Sterling Milli
      Auba Firmino

Out of curiosity, what have your goalkeepers been like this season? My most successful one has been Foster (!), which shows how bad/unlucky my choices have been. In detail:

Foster: 4 games, 3 clean sheets, 4.3 ppg
Courtois: 9 games, 5 clean sheets, 4.1 ppg
      Pickford: 8 games, 1 (!) clean sheet, 3 ppg
Elliot: 10 games, 3 clean sheets, 2.3 ppg

Haven't included DDG yet because this is only my second week playing him so the stats are skewed.

I've had Fabianski/KN, up until this week, since I wildcarded in GW6. Fabianski has done me proud for the price with ne GK benching headache.
I now have Lloris/Fabianski with DGW37 BB in mind.

Actually looking back at it it doesn't look that bad - apart from Pickford and Elliot that is. I guess I need to find another excuse for my poor season!

Can't be bothered to count clean sheets. De Gea has 2, Pickford 1, Fabianski probably about 5.

De Gea: 3 games, 5 ppg
        Ryan: 2 games, 2.5 ppg
        Pickford: 2 games, 5 ppg
        Fabianski: 24 games, 3.8 ppg
        Elliot: 2 games, 3 ppg
        Begovic: 2 games, 2.5 ppg

Had Fabianski and Elliot the longest, annoying benched them both for their best games of the season.

That's still quite a decent return from Fabianski - I would've been better off picking him for sure instead of trying to be 'clever' with Pickford.

Guessing you got Pickford in the run-up to GW31 when he couldn't keep a clean sheet to save his life, I was very close to doing the same but just held off.

When I played that first WC before GW8 I had the choice between Fab and Pope. Would've been slightly better off going with the latter but can't complain with Fab's save points ticking along.

I really rate him as a goalkeeper too. He'd have been no.1 by a distance at Arsenal since last season.

Agreed on Fabianski - Arsenal would've been better off with him for sure.

And I thought getting Pickford was a no-brainer: he was on a streak of clean sheets prior to my transfer, plus save and bonus points to boot! (both of which dried up of course, other than the occasional save point)

If Chambers plays he won't keep a clean sheet.

Keep an eye on Robertson, Salah and Pope being rotated.

I wouldn't go Bolasie but that's exactly the sort of punt you can afford to go for with FH.

FH team (of course) too cheap on defence?

      Pickford
      Dummet Tomkins Lowton
      Mane Sterling Salah KDB
      Jesus Aubameyang Firmino

      3.9 Milo Mariappa 3.9

      Obviously leaked lineups will help

Low value FH team done. Thoughts?

      Pickford (3.9)
      Baines, Robertson*, Tomkins (Dummett, Long)
      KDB, Salah, Sterling, Milivojevic (Cork)
      Aubameyang, Jesus, Firmino

      0.2m spare.

Robertson is a placeholder for whichever full back the Anfield Express says will play.

We will hopefully get the leaked Liverpool line up, can easily switch to 3-5-2 with Mane instead of Firmino.

City is the best defensive option but I don’t really want to waste a City slot on a defender.

After that Liverpool and then Arsenal/Everton/Stoke are the next best. I have Robertson and Butland, while Baines/Coleman have good attacking threat as well so I think they could be good differentials.
