Captain Poll – Gameweek 37

Unsurprisingly, Double Gameweek 37 players dominate in our latest Captain Poll, which was launched earlier today to gauge your views on the best armband options.

Chief among these are Tottenham Hotspur assets, who travel to bottom side West Brom on Saturday followed by a home clash with Newcastle United three days later.

Voters will be keenly watching events at Wembley tonight when Mauricio Pochettino’s troops play the final fixture of Gameweek 36 at home to Watford.

Although Harry Kane (13.0) has struggled for form, with a single FPL goal in his last six appearances, across the campaign the Spurs striker has proved to be an explosive captaincy option.

Kane has delivered eight double-digit points hauls and should gain extra motivation from his mission to overturn Mohamed Salah’s five-goal advantage in the Golden Boot race.

With six scores above 10 points Son Heung-min (8.3) is unlikely to be overlooked, particularly for the Magpies clash. The South Korean has served up nine goals and five assists in home matches.

Christian Eriksen (9.6)’s four double-digit returns makes him a less explosive option than Kane or Son. However, the Dane’s recent consistency may sway some opinion, with at least a goal or assist in four of his last five run outs, including a 15-point haul away to Stoke in Gameweek 33.

Three goals and as many assists over his last five league matches make Dele Alli (9.0) another in-form Spurs asset to consider.

The North Londoners won’t have it easy, though. Since Darren Moore took charge in early April, the Baggies are unbeaten, including a victory over Manchester United and a draw with Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s backline has proved miserly over their last six outings, conceding just four times, with only Liverpool shipping less (three).

Even with the league title wrapped up Manchester City’s stars are refusing to take their foot off the gas with nine goals in their last two matches as champions.

This fine recent form, as well as two favourable home ties against Huddersfield and Brighton, is already seeing considerable interest in their assets.

The Terriers have been particularly poor on the road over the season with their last clean sheet way back in Gameweek 6. Brighton have been similarly obliging, with just one shut-out in six road trips, shipping nine goals along the way.

Gabriel Jesus (10.3) is in excellent form with four goals and three assists over his last five starts. Already this week he is the most acquired player with more than 33,000 transfers in.

With 30,000+ new owners, Raheem Sterling (9.0) is the most popular midfield target and has been similarly impressive, claiming double-digit hauls in all three of his last league matches, including a hat-trick of assists in the 4-1 victory over West Ham on Sunday.

Leroy Sane (8.6)’s strike against the Hammers, his tenth of the campaign, may also garner interest and Kevin De Bruyne (10.3)’s home form should also see him earn attention. On home turf, the Belgian has supplied a high league-high number of assists (14) and chances created (62) and has also found the net five times.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba (7.9) and Alexis Sanchez (11.5) put forward a strong case for consideration in their 2-1 home defeat of Arsenal on Sunday. The Frenchman’s goal was his sixth of the campaign and third in the last four matches. Meanwhile, Sanchez’s assist against his former employers was his fourth in as many starts, over which time he has also scored once and earned two scores of 10 points or more.

During Gameweek 37 the Red Devils travel to a Brighton side without a home clean sheet in 2018 and also drop by West Ham, who have shipped eight over their last four London Stadium matches.

Chelsea’s home tie with Huddersfield next Wednesday looks the more favourable of their encounters, arriving three days after they entertain Liverpool.

Blues assets put forward for consideration include Eden Hazard (10.5), with a goal and assist over his last two starts. Their striker Olivier Giroud (8.2) is another, given he scored a brace off the bench against Southampton in Gameweek 34.

Mohamed Salah (10.6) may only have one fixture but, with 14 double-digit hauls, the PFA Player of the Year could still generate interest.

Among the differential options is Jordan Ayew (5.3), ahead of Swansea’s must-win games against Bournemouth away and Southampton at the Liberty Stadium. Between them, the two south coast sides have shipped 16 times over their last four run outs. Meanwhile, Ayew has been involved in more than a third (36%) of all his side’s goals this season.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 37 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Thanks! That's for free btw since I have 2FTs.

If I go with Eriksen that leaves a lot of cash in the bank, I might even take a hit to upgrade a defender.

Any suggestions on which premium defender to bring in for 37/38? I've gone budget in defense so aside from DDG in goal I have zero cover for the top 6 sides

Is anyone at all concerned about Man Utd rest/rotation *after* GW37, given that they play Thursday/Sunday?

As they will probably be tied up in second place, and playing an even more beached Watford, and have a cup final the following week, it is at least conceivable that there are a bunch of players rested (I'm looking at Smalling, Lingard, Pogba)

    A - Vardy - Mustafi - Morgan - TO - Jesus - Bednarek - Mariappa -8

    DDG (Ryan)
    Davies, Christensen, Smalling, Chilwell, Mariappa
    Sterling, Alli, Son, Willian, Kenedy

If Lukaku is ruled out, Lukaku to Jesus and keep Bobby. If Lukaku is fit, Bobby to Jeseus.

Pogba, Arnie, Ramsey or other (8.0 or less) and why???

Pogba - pretty good form, if lukaku out may attack more, good fixtures, one of the more nailed players BUT could be rotated still
Arnie - attacking, but hard fixtures
Ramsey - (only considering if ARS go out of EL) can have good games, good differential, good fixtures, BUT may not be nailed...

What are your thoughts? (have sterling, son, silva, zaha, BB37)... thinking pogba rn, as no other MUN attack (team linked)

Thoughts on the next move? 30points behind ML leader but with the TC in hand

    Ddg — Ryan
Smalling Maguire alonso Cedric — lowton
Son pogba willian mahrez — king
    Kane Jesus

    A: mahrez > sterling..leaves 0.2m itb. Will need a hit in gw38 (alonso/sterling) to xxx/salah

B: Maguire + mahrez >> Davies + sterling (-4) exact funds. Then another hit in gw38 for salah

    C: Alonso + willian >> naughton + sterling (-4)...can then be punty in gw38 and do sterling/mahrez >> salah/zaha (or arnie/Ramsey)

    D: same as C (i.e. Alonso + willian >> naughton + sterling (-4)) but then can then keep sterling in gw38 and do Maguire/mahrez >> cheapie + salah (-4))

    How is this for logic...

If taking a hit to bring in a DGW player for a SGW player, the hit is only 2 points.

No hit - single GW player plays and gets 2 points for doing so.

Hit - DGW player plays twice and gets 4 points for doing so. Hit takes you -4 back to 0.

    Difference = 2 points...

This logic is tempting me to tear up my midfield

Because the sgw player outscores the player you took a hit for
          Happens every dgw
Anyone on here will tell you it happens
It's only truly a -2 if the player you take out has a blank week and the player that comes in plays

You would only sub out a SGW player and bring in a DGW player if you thought the DGW would outscore/the SGW would blank.

So it does make sense, as long as you choose wisely!

Why ask if you already have your mind made up?

Who would transfer in a player they thought was going to score less pts anyway?

Question answered. We should all be willing to take more hits!

I take hits all the time, especially early season I think it's so important.

56 transfers this season, but I've probably only taken 5-7 hits since the new year.

124,000 atm and climbing, with my bench boost for the DGW and £104.4m squad value AFTER my wildcard were I took out my big profit players such as Firmino and Salah. My biggest error this season was taking Kane out temporarily for 3 games or something before his DGW and missed back to back hatricks.

Also look at the players you want to get rid of and whether you would like them in GW38. I was tempted to get rid of Salah and Robertson, but I will want them v BHA and can live with their only playing one game this week (particularly Mo, who only needs one!)

I got rid of all three of my Liverpool assets, Spurs and City have just as good fixtures GW38 if not better, Brighton are solid and Liverpool have the rotation around the Champions League.

The one thing you can never do in this game is guarantee yourself points unfortunately, players can score less than 2 (I'm looking at you here Morgan) and players will get rotated/injured during the DGW, oh and the SGW players do outscore the DGW players while we're at it.

Hey guys, squeaky bum time in my league. Holding a 10 point lead with TC in hand (unlike rival). Willing to take a -4 hit and will wait to see how Kane does tonight. 1 FT and 1.3 ITB

    A - Salah & Lukaku > Jesus/Kane & Sterling?
    B - Other suggestions?

    Finally, who should I TC?

    DDG
    Alonso - Naughton - Morgan
    Salah - Son - Eriksen - Willian - GroB
    Lukaku - Vardy
    Ryan - Barnes - Lowton - Long

Who would you TC in 37? I'm banking on a good TC haul to see me pull clear.

    Would you:

Lowton, Salah and Mahrez to Vertonghen, Sterling and Pogba?

    Will leave me with:
    DDG
    Davies Vert Smalling
    Arnie Willian Sterling Pogba
    Kane(TC) Jesus Vardy

Will see how Kane goes tonight

    Current dgw37 squad:
    DDG (Ryan)
    Azpi, Chilwell, Lowton (Robertson, Mariappa)
    Salah, Mili, Son, Eriksen (Gudmundsson)
    Kane (TC), Jesus, Barnes

    Any moves worth making:
Robbo > Mawson? Azpi > Smalling? Barnes > Perez? Gud > Kenedy? Something else?

100% will have salah if fit for 38. So for me it’s 2 moves which I’m not sure is worth it as feel he could easily get a goal at chelsea

Ahead by 23 in ML. All the same players/team coverage except he has Mane and I have Gudmundsson and he has Foster and I have a Burnley defender. He still has bench boost too (probably use in 38 since he only has 8 DGW players). What would you do here? .5 ITB. Willing to take up to a -4. Considering Salah and Mahrez to Eriksen and Sane. Then, Salah back in 38.

    De Gea (Dubravka)
    Davies Smalling Mustafi Morgan (Lowton)
    Salah Mahrez Sterling (Gudmundsson Mili)
    Kane Jesus (Barnes)
