Fantasy Eliteserien 2018 – Gameweek 12 Preview

As expected, the last set of fixtures was poor in terms of the average score, with the Gameweek winner coming in below 100 points for the first time since the blank fixtures.

There were some important lessons learned though, as some strained squads approach the summer break. As Norwegians, we have a rare glimpse of shining sun, and will tone back the previews to more bare essentials this time around with a focus on the key matches.

Gameweek 12 feature matches

Vålerenga – Lillestrøm

(Saturday, 5:00 P.M.)

This traditional Norwegian derby tends to be tough, tight and heavy. With no guarantee of good football the motivation should be high for both sides. Plenty of Fantasy managers are eager to see if Erling Knudtzon will be back in play, and if he will play up front or out wide.

Strømsgodset – Sandefjord

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Strømsgodset have disappointed everyone with their run so far, although there have been glimmers of hope with a series of close calls and woodwork strikes of late. If they can’t get it together against whipping-boys Sandefjord, then we know a turnaround in their fortunes is still some way off.

Rosenborg – Brann

(Sunday, 7:00 P.M.)

Brann started in red hot form and despite a drop off in form they are still finding results to remain undefeated in the league. Hot favorites Rosenborg have had the opposite journey; they are now looking like a top team after a slow start.

If Rosenborg win this game, they will be top of the league for the first time this season. Their attacking threat and home advantage will be needed as a clean sheet may be tricky.

For the hosts Yann-Erik de Lanlay is facing a race to be fit for this game. Rosenborg manager Kåre Ingebrigtsen has stated that de Lanlay will play if fit, implying that there will only be room for one of Søderlund and Bendtner in the starting lineup. If de Lanlay is out for this game, there’s a possibility both will start.

MrKlin says..

Looking ahead we see Sarpsborg 08 and Haugesund entering a great run of fixtures, with some nice options opening up.

For Haugesund, David Akintola should already be in many teams, and with a lighter schedule he can hopefully explode his potential further. Frederik Gytkjær, despite his last penalty landing somewhere in France, is a viable striker for the next four to five Gameweeks. Also look to the defence as Alexander Stølås and Vegard Skjerve sail up as alternative defensive options.

In Sarpsborg it’s harder to find the right picks. Goalie Aslak Falch has well and truly secured the number one shirt and is a shoo-in if you are looking for a keeper now, while Amin Askar splashed onto the scene with out of position play on the left midfield/wing as well as taking set-piece duty. Kristoffer Zachariassen was a pre-season favorite from this team, and has crept into form picking up an assist on the sly in each of his last three run outs.

Bonus info: with Ranheim striker Michael Karlsen suspended on yellow cards, Erik Tønne looks to be the penalty taker of choice as they travel to Bodø.

Johannes says..

Sarpsborg are coming from three back-to-back victories, and have great fixtures coming up. It looks like a good bet to bring in someone from Sarpsborg now. I agree with MrKlin and see Amin Askar as the standout pick at the moment. After having started the season as a full back, it seems like he’s now nailed down the left wing in the team. He’s a defender in the game, and also on a lot of set pieces.

Another Sarpsborg pick I like is Ole Jørgen Halvorsen, who’s currently occupying the right wing. He should be the penalty taker having scored the previous two spot kicks. Both Askar and Halvorsen should be pretty nailed, but with Sarpsborg’s squad depth there’s always a slight chance of rotation. Aslak Falch remains a good goalkeeper pick, and Patrick Mortensen could be a good differential up front as he’s very likely to start every game.

If you haven’t got in David Akintola yet, it might be the time to do so. He’s still red hot, and has good fixtures coming up. In the absence of Christian Grindheim against Tromsø he might be given an even more attacking role behind the striker. An attacking double up with Frederik Gytkjær could be a good differential in the coming weeks, despite the Danish forward skying a penalty against Rosenborg. Another great pick from Haugesund is Alexander Stølås. With four attacking returns already, I think he’ll reward his owners nicely over the next week.

Another team I’m monitoring is Strømsgodset. They have great fixtures, with Sandefjord and Start coming up in the next two, and have shown potential in recent matches, despite not overly impressing. I’ll back Marcus Pedersen to do well as my captain this week, and I personally think Eirik Ulland Andersen will return to form sooner rather than later. Bringing one of them in is a risk though, with a mass exodus from Ulland Andersen likely if he doesn’t return anything and Pedersen is one yellow away from suspension.

Alexander Søderlund deserves a mention. In Niklas Bendtner’s absences he impressed with two goals for Rosenberg, who I back to win against Brann. However, I’m not 100% convinced Søderlund will start. As mentioned only one of Søderlund and Bendtner will start if de Lanlay is fit, and with this being Bendtner’s last game before going to the World Cup I have a feeling he’ll be the one to get the nod. This is only my personal opinion though. If I already had Søderlund I’d play him, but non-owners may be advised to wait until Bendtner leaves for international duty.

Down 2-4 now, but could easily have been in front here.

Sad to see Halvorsen assist not given. Seems like the shot hit Schwartz's heel before Moe and then back to Schwartz. It's a bit of a joke that it would've been an assist if it had hit 2 defenders instead of Scwartz and a defender.

Best differentials going forward in your opinion? Would be interesting if EUA and/or Haugen became essential, just to break the template.

                    5 years, 11 months ago

I don't think differentials per se are a good approach in fantasy. But EUA and maybe Haugen as you say. Gytkjaer and Haugesund defs, Halvorsen, Aasmundsen, Parr, perhaps Matthew? Others like Bamba and Zachariassen aren't so template but wouldn't call them differentials.

I think Grindheim is the best differential. His underlying stats are great, and he plays rather advanced. Haugesund got strong fixtures for a while. He should be back from injury after the international break.

Yeah, I like him as an option. With Haugesund's fixture run it might be worth a double up.

What's worrying is their poor (attacking) performance at home against Tromsø. They had less than 30% possession and got dominated for big parts of the game. Still managed to win though.

Stølås, Halvorsen, Bamba, EUA, Gytkjær, Grindheim, Brynhildsen, Layouni all good differentials. Ohi is almost a differential as well know.

With so much value tied up in players, are we holding them too long ? Just sold Johnson and lost £££ on him, painful but wanted Søderlund for the good fixtures

                Best route to Soderlund?

                A. Johnson Asen > Soderlund 6.1
                B. Johnson Skalevik Asen > Soderlund Bamba 6.2 (-4)
                C. Johnson Skalevik Nilsen > Soderlund Bamba 3.8 (-4)
                D. Something else? 2FT 1.2 ITB

                Falch
                Wormgoor Tonne Stolas
                Akintola Brynhildsen Reginniussen Rashani

I'd pick A just b/c no hit. There's a case for selling Skalevik over Johnson, but just can't see great returns vs brann and rosenborg defences.

                      Cheers M

It's tempting to get Bamba in as part of the deal, and I'm not really sure which 6.1 mid I'd go for...?

I quite like the idea of going for a 3.8 defender as I feel like there's already enough of my budget in the back 5 at the mo. Seems like a good opportunity to redistribute funds.

Agree on Bamba - I've also missed too many goals there. If it wasn't for the hit would do it myself.

6.1 options - as Niemi says. There's also Hussain potentially. A risk as Solskjær rotates, but has started last 3 for 1G/1A. From memory had a good run towards end of last season (playing for Odd).

I like B and C. I would like Grindheim with B, but he's 6.4. Saltnes, Layouni, Matthew and Aasmundsen probably the best bets at 6.2 or less.

At 3.8 you can actually get Grorud, who's a starter for Sandefjord. He's their captain actually. Don't expect points, but he should be fairly nailed on.

Yup, I was looking at Grorud as he's pkayed most (nearly all) minutes despite racking up minimal pts. Could be ideal fodder, if only required for the occasional 2pt'er.

Is Skalevik > Bambaworth the hit though?

Maybe not this week. I rate Bamba as the better striker, but Skålevik plays for the better team and Brann are usually good at home.

Brutal week. 31 points and a host of issues. Back down to 4.5k but bizarrely won my Ffs h2h match! We must be playing this game very similarly here.

                    bad GW, 33p
                    assist on captain EUA
                    goal on Søder
2 bps on Woorm and that´s it
even if I add point from bench I would not reach average

No need to panic just yet regarding over all OR. With the overall GW score being low again this week we have not dropped many points from the pace setters so far. A goal or assist and a few bonus points better than those in front of you each week is almost (8 or 9x18 gw's =) 150 points up on the pack by season end and If you have chips to use as well that could be a huge advantage.
About 100 points separate the leader from the top 500, and to get into the top 1k from 5k needs less than 70 points.
This season has become very template so luck with picking only one player who could do better than the pack is hard. Spending money on high price players who you hope to come into form could be one way to beat the pack whilst they are picking form and fixtures over value. This is such an unpredictable league that I am just hoping to finish the season with out too many bad game weeks. Without Mortensen picking up points in the final minutes of the last match in this GW it would have been a very hard international break for me.
Good luck for the rest of the season anyway but one week at a time with a plan for three or four weeks ( and a bit of luck) will get you there at season end.

Those standings are tight! No wonder I climbed almost 500 places with just slightly above average round score.

Any easy way to see the standings and points in the app, btw?

                    26(-4) all out. Horrible GW.
Pulled the trigger early on Søderlund, so no free transfers going into next GW. Not owning Pedersen worries me, and I can only get him by taking a -8 - with Åsen/Johnson making way.

Is that at all worth it? Would be a massive gamble.

Would like to do Johnson to Søderlund but 0.3 off, any of these worth it to raise the extra for -4?

                    A) Broberg to Berntsen/Aasmundsen
                    B) Skålevik to Gytkjær (exact money so can't afford Bamba unfortunately)

Didn't sound like a major injury for Broberg. There's an international break now btw.

Gytkjær could be a great option now with Haugesund's fixture run.

Aasmundsen has been consistently racking up points though. I'm going to be honest - not watched him a lot and I don't know much about him.

Seems somewhat ott and unlikely given later cup competitions, but if Jensen + Bendtner go to the wc Rosenborg apparently have the right to ask for their affected Eliteserien games to be postponed (i.e the next four).

Rosenborg will apparently make a decision when the final Denmark squad is announced on Monday. I doubt they will postpone them, at least all of them, as there will be a massive fixture pile-up towards the end. Especially if they qualify for CL/EL.

Søderlund is a good replacement for Bendtner, but Jensen will be a big miss if he goes..

Seems an odd rule. WC players likely from better teams, and better teams likely to have better and larger squads to deal with it.

I don't think it's an odd rule, but it should probably be three player instead of two. I don't think Rosenborg will apply for this though, as they have good squad depth and I'm not sure if they would benefit from this at all.

Not necessarily just the best teams. Some of the lesser teams could have WC players from smaller nations. This also applies to U21/U19 championships etc.

It wasn't that likely, but Floki and Sigurdarson from Start could have got a call up for Iceland for example. Both have caps. Sandefjord have two Icelandic players with national caps.

Lesser teams and Iceland - true I didn't really consider that example, nor U21/U19.

In general, although it does say deferral only granted if opposing team not required to play more than 2 matches within 6 days, a postponement would necessarily force a dgw on opponents with probable lesser squad depth.

As you say, perhaps a rule of 3+ would be better.

It seems like it's only the first game during the period the player is away that can be postponed. This only applies for tournaments.

This means Tromsø - Rosenborg next gameweek is the only game at risk.

Decided to play the WC to get Rolantsson back in as can’t face life without him.

This is my current set up after a few transfers and tentative starting XI for a few weeks time.

                          With 0.5 ITB

Gone are Linde, Rashani, Skålevik, Hestad, Granli and Barli.

Cheers, bit strange though for a 25% owned player to drop who has only had 47 transfers out as of now, excluding the transfers in.

Rudd for example 147 transfers out, 5 transfers in, 18% ownership ... no price drop ?

Impossible to gauge without knowing net transfers for previous week(s). No idea what the thresholds are but assume -40ish just tipped him over one. Should need 1100+ more NTI to rise back to 7m if threshold is say 10%, but price changes quite extreme recently - wouldn't be surprised if it happened tomorrow.

Can’t see it having any legs ...

Starting training is more like having toes, rather than legs 😉 ... not a good advertisement for young keen Norwegian strikers trying to get their chance in the game ... but great publicity though if it sends and extra couple of thousand through the turnstiles

He'd be worth a punt for a two month contract, surely? Even if only comes on for the last 30 minutes, if he has any sort of touch he'll frighten the he'll out of defenders.

I think this is a pure PR thing. Bolt is sponsored by Puma, Dortmund is sponsored by Puma and Strømsgodset is sponsored by Puma.

The CEO of Puma is also a former Strømsgodset player.

Apparently he's training for Unicef's Soccer Aid Match. He didn't rule out playing in Norway, but he said he's expecting to get paid as he's still a major name. There's not a lot of money in Norwegian football, so I doubt he'll get a lot over here unless he's actually good.

Looks like Lillestrøm and Rosenborg are heading for the 5. round of the cup.

Yup. A full strength Rosenborg played 2-2 against Odd and won 7-6 on penalties. Hedenstad and Meling both assisted, Søderlund scored.

A weakened Brann side lost 4-1 against Lillestrøm.

Only saw the Rosenborg match. Odd very effective, while Rosenborg couldn't turn possession into more goals.

Not full strength Rosenborg either. No Jensen or Bendtner, of course - but also no de Lanlay or Helland. Konradsen (injury) and Trondsen subbed during the match.

Wasn't Konradsen subbed after like 90 minutes though? Full strength bar injuries*

Yes, that's correct. Subbed for his younger brother.
