World Cup Fantasy Transfer Tips: The Big Numbers

World Cup Fantasy managers will have to respond quickly to the emerging trends in Russia, as they prepare their transfers ahead of the Gameround 2 deadline on Tuesday.

We’ve taken our first look at the Opta World Cup data, which is exclusively available to members after the completion of each match.

Our analysis covers all fixtures contested in Groups A-F, with a scrutiny of Group G and H to follow before the second set of group matches commence.

Not surprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.0m) has been at the heart of the transfer market in recent days following his 16-point haul in Portugal’s opening fixture: since Friday night, his ownership has doubled.

Elsewhere, there appears to be a strong case to load up on Uruguay players ahead of their match with Saudi Arabia, while the underlying statistics should provide some consolation to owners of Lionel Messi and Neymar following the £12.0m-rated forwards’ opening-match blanks.

If you were to wildcard right now for Gameweek round 2. What would your team be? Or who would your essentials be?

    For me:

    - Ronaldo
    - Kane
    - Lukaku
    - Spain Def
    - Couts
    - Uruguay Def
    - Eriksen

      In no particular order

      Varela for value
      Akanji/Rodriguez
      Kimmich
      Alba
      Isco/Costa
      Cavani

Lukaku arguably but the England fixture taints him as an option, could see him getting a goal in that though so would probably end up in my team.

Layun. Decent set piece delivery, and also started a few of the counter attacks vs Germany, the majority ofc led by Chica and Lozano

Not sure if this is stupid or not but not going to bother subbing in Sanchez for one of my two pointers, think a red card is due and let’s be honest, he’s not going to do anything return wise anyway lol Lewandowski though...

Your choice. Sanchez likes to stick in more than a few tackles, so a card is likely. But hey, Gazinsky, the Russian DM, did score a goal, so anything's possible.

There will be less emphasis on a functioning bench in the quarters so none if I can help it.

There won't be many cheaper players available by the time the quarters are here so it'll all be about the first 11 IMO.

After a 1-1 draw with Switzerland at the debut of Brazil in the Russia 2018 World Cup, Brazilian national team players returned to training on Monday (18) at the main training ground in Brazil in Sochi. It was the beginning of training sessions for the next World Cup challenge: Costa Rica.

The group that started the game against the Swiss did individualized work. Some went to the field, others made recovery between physical therapy and the gym. Reserve athletes worked with ball under the eyes of coach Tite and his assistants. The whole activity period of the day was accompanied by the press.

Neymar, Thiago Silva and Paulinho did not go on the pitch and did the post-game regenerative procedures normally in the concentration camp. None of the three athletes are concerned about the sequence of the week.

Neymar injured or just post-match recovery?

I’d rather get bench boost out the way then can hold some non playing fodder.

Plus rotation could be rife. I love Trippier, kane, lukaku, meunier and co right now. But realistically they could all be benched for GW3 if they beat Panama and Tunisia this week.

They might not want to win the group due to Germany losing.

Doubt Meunier and co will be rotated for England v Belgium. Trippier is the only one of those I feel is at risk and that will likely be this gw if at all. I see your point re bench boost and having the option of a weaker bench but could you do more with the extra 5m in the last 16 and then wildcard out of it in the quarters.

    Pickford
    Marcelo Kimmich Meunier Godin
    James Isco Carrasco
    Griezmann Cavani Jesus

    (Uzoho Hegazy DGuzman CSanchez)

    Would you:
    A) Griezmann > Lukaku
    B) Jesus > DCosta
    C) James > Coutinho
    D) Other?
