Best Huddersfield players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Huddersfield Town made a mockery of the doom-mongering pre-season predictions to avoid relegation in their debut Premier League campaign.

The Terriers, who were odds-on with the bookmakers to make an instant return to the Championship before a ball was kicked, only fell into the drop zone once in the entire season and finished four points ahead of 18th-placed Swansea City.

Town’s squad was among the cheapest in Fantasy Premier League last season, with not a single player having a starting price of more than £6.0m. The same is true for the coming campaign, with striker Steve Mounie the most expensive asset in David Wagner’s squad.

Jonas Lossl, Christopher Schindler and Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen broke the 100-point barrier in FPL last season and all three have been priced up at £4.5m again this time after their value-for-money performances in 2017/18. Midfielder Aaron Mooy, Town’s highest-scoring outfield player in FPL last season, is also a non-mover at £5.5m.

Only the sides who finished in the top seven kept more clean sheets than Huddersfield (ten) last season, though the Terriers’ concerning form in the second half of 2017/18 – in which they won just three of their final 20 matches and recorded as many shut-outs – is worth noting to Fantasy managers ahead of the coming season.

In-depth data on Huddersfield’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the salient statistics in the article below.

I wish I'd stop changing my mind - I'm going to be a nervous wreck by the time GW1 arrives.

    Anyway, today's iteration:

    Pickford | Stekelenburg
    Mendy | Robertson | Lowton | Cedric | Tomkins
    Salah | Sane | Ramsey | Cairney | Hughes
    Aubameyang | Tosun | Wood

0.5 ITM to swap Sane to KDB once he's had his post WC rest

    RMT

    Pickford
    TAA Bellerin Smalling
    Mahrez Walcott Siggy Salah
    Zaha Aguero Tosun

    (Boruc Yoshida Masuaku Bednarek)

obviously Pickford still playing in the world cup and may not start the season, rotation risk on Mahrez. Bednarek as a 4.0 defender to cover Yoshida if he goes down injured.

People on here won't agree but I actually really like the Everton triple up. Think all three of them look like good value and their fixtures are great.

Not so sure about your defence. Bellerin starts with two bad fixtures and TAA isn't nailed.

I think it will be the same as last season. Pre-season there appear to be a few exciting prospects but one by one they drop away and clubs transfer in first choices. Personally this year I'm staying clear, at least for GW1.

Reading Modric's comments today on England's media arrogance I must say I completely agree with him.

As a neutral, England were one of the teams I was initially cheering for, in addition to Peru, Iceland, Argentina and Senegal. But after the Panama win (one of the worst sides to reach the World cup in the modern era) the ironic "It's coming home, we're going to win it etc" seemed to fade away and people, especially the media actually started to believe it... plotting their best route to the final, when the best team they had beaten was Tunisia, and that win was a close call By the time they played Colombia I found myself firmly rooting against England.

It's a bit of a shame. Southgate, Kane and co. all seem a likeable bunch but the level of arrogance from outside the squad does the England team no favours and makes it impossible for non-English people to be on their side. I think Southgate is a decent skin, but he also failed to adapt his system against one of the strongest midfields in the tournament - Lingard, Ali and Henderson alone against the likes of Modric and Rakitic? England need a quality midfielder or two that isn't afraid of actually getting on the ball in hard games when their team needs some control.

Its a shame Wilshire is so injury prone (and he lost focus off field) as he was the closest to that type of player England needed.

So, basically if we sing/cheer our team and actually believe they can win then we’re arrogant?
Croatia were not that much better then England. Had England scored 2 in the first half then they would be in the final. Granted France would most likely have won, but we would have got to the final. But we cant get excited according to you.
Lets not bother going to stadiums and supporting them next time, then we might not seem so “arrogant”.

It was fun.I agree. Modric was just picking up on the fact that the Media were getting ahead of themselves a little. Their tired. We had tough game against Columbia, not so much Sweden. We were the ones looking tired. I agree with the original comment about holding the ball. We lost control, that’s why we got tired.

Clearly letting your disappointment taint your view of his comment.

He probably wasn't neutral given all those teams he listed. But he never said fans shouldn't sing and be optimistic.

He blamed the MEDIA. Something I completely agree with. They ran it down your throat to the point it's not only unprofessional but embarassing for them - Ian Wright resorting to a mock Irish accent to try deflect from his arrogance when called out on it post match.

I don’t think the media were unprofessional or embarrassing, I think people need to lighten up, if a nation wants sing it’s coming home and get excited then leave us to it.

Roy Keane made himself look a complete and utter idiot post match telling us we shouldn’t be happy to be in semis, he was provoking Ian write.

I'll just reply to this one to make it easier.

Again, not saying the nation shouldn't sing. That's where I think you're all being sensitive not us. I said the MEDIA should be professional.

You expect a bias but not to the point the commentary is complete satire.

Can you honestly say if it was roles reversed and an English player had a stormed and called it like that you wouldn't see his point?

Maybe I’m missing something, or haven’t picked up on the point.

What have the media done that wasn’t professional?

Honestly I am the least sensitive person, I genuinly would have no problem with anyone acting the way us fans or media have done, everyone to their own.

The original point was modric was in the wrong. I'm arguing that he wasn't. He was questioned and proved the doubting media wrong and therefore spoke out.

If it had been roles reversed you wouldn't have changed your opinion on an English player you liked.

The professional part was more my annoyance at the commentary which was laughable. Some pundits too. You can be optimistic but for Ian Wright to lose it like that was unprofessional even if provoked. He's clearly been dishing it out so needs to take it.

Happy to disagree on the second point because of obvious bias on either side

In all honesty, being English, I am going to be bias, so my view is probably irrelevant 😆 .

Maybe the media got over confident, but being English it added to a great atmosphere here for us as the whole nation was hyped and the buzz in the pubs was unreal when we were making our way to the semis (regardless of how rubbish our opponents were).

I now get why Modric has said that, but oh well. I’m sure I’d be able to find some Croatian media material somewhere that spoke about potentially how their fixture route to the final was also quite a favourable one (playing teams such as Russia and England). But I can’t be assed to dig.

I like Morata touch but Arnie might not get the same position this season.
With a hard fixture to come maybe wait and see on that one.
      Zaha might get tfr.
      Rest fairly template.

Agree with the others about Eriksen and Morata. Silva is a possible rotation risk this year now that Mahrez has arrived. Masuaku may not be a starter but I suppose that's not a major issue for you considering his price.

Personally I think your template cheap defence will bite you. Despite skimping on defence and Salah, you appear to have few primary assets. Who are you going to captain when Aguero is rotated with Jesus? I also wouldn't start with any Spuds - too many players will be rested post-world cup and they have too many away fixtures early on as their stadium isn't ready.

I'm thinking Sanchez will have a stormer this season. Great fixtures, proven calibre, pens and some FKs. He's still the same player who scored 24 and assisted 14 2 seasons back, he'll have had a full season to bed into the team and make his mark. Has had his first full pre season in 9 years so will be fit and raring, whereas other teams will be depleted/tiring. Think he'll make a good differential.

Bellerin.. you're probably right, might look at him in GW3 instead.

Yarm is another differential, think he could be the next Payet.

Lukaku will start, he's a machine, started every single minute in every competition when he was fit last season. Other striker is Rashford who Jose's not the biggest fan of/also made the same stage.

Salah.. tricky one, but I've gone Mane/Firm instead, 13m is too much for someone who may suffer second season syndrome. Will see if I can make room for him instead of Mane.

Might visit Ramsey, I'll see how pre-season goes for both him and Mkhi.

Cheers for the critique, good feedback 🙂

I reckon Alexis plays striker week 1 while Lukaku gets a rest after WC. Prob is Alexis now plays for a mourinho team not the free flowing arsenal, so who knows if he will ever reach the same heights from 2 yrs ago.

To be fair, United got off to a blistering start last season, scoring 4 repeatedly until they suddenly applied the brakes.

That's the problem with Mourinho though. Rather invest in their def.

It doesn't make sense early door to bet against Salah and go for Alexis.

Completely agree with that. I've got Salah nailed from the outset but might start with Sanchez only until Lukaku and Hazard return, at which point I swap him for Hazard.

Arsenal haven't been free-flowing for half a decade or more now, Sanchez is the kind of player who'll score goals in scrappy affairs too.

Of course with Arsenal there' the new manager effect. Fortunately they start with 2 stinky fixtures which give us half a chance to assess if they're 'free-flowing' or not. I say half a chance because they won't be at completely full strength and their opponents even less so, and no new team shows their real potential in the first couple of weeks anyway.

tl;dr? Arsenal - wait and see.

I don't mind the Sanchez punt early doors - could easily pay off - but Yarm is illogical at best. He doesn't score much, he doesn't assist much, and is playing in a new league for a new team that probably isn't very good. I'd argue you don't need differemtials to begin with - you need solid, proven players and then the differentials will emerge. Good luck.

If you're focused on the first 2-3 GWs, it's not bad.
I think Sanchez is good for a week or 2 until Lukaku is playing, and then you could switch to the returning Hazard or De Bruyne.
On the point of the WC, I expect the later article on returness will point out that Lukaku and Firmino may well be missing, so someone like Aubameyang would be a better starter.

    Repost :-

I think this is the most balance team I've made so far.. Any thoughts?

    Leno - Begovic
    Ward - Cedric - Robertson - Coleman - Schelotto
    Cairney - Mahrez - Salah - Gunnarsson - Mkhitaryan
    Firmino - Wood - Agüero

Are you actually going to drop your Arsenal keeper some weeks? If not, get a 4m benchie as 2nd keeper.
      Defence - 2 nailed, 2 mediocre and a 4m non-player. Are you confident rotating Ward/Cedric every GW?
Midfield: good, but I doubt Mahrez will start - Pep likes to take time to teach new players his tactics.
Fwd: good, but even more so than with Ward, I'd be wary of Burnley's Europa commitments. If Wood plays Thursday nights, he'll likely be rested for PL.
