Croatia Fantasy differentials end England’s World Cup dream

A trio of Croatian differentials were the Fantasy winners on Wednesday night as they emerged victorious from a World Cup semi-final with England.

None of those involved in Croatia’s goals had more than six percent ownership, while the highly-owned Three Lions options were left disappointed.

We’ve got all the goals, assists and Fantasy talking points from match 62 of this World Cup.

ENGLAND 1-2 CROATIA

TOP-SCORING PLAYERS:

  • Ivan Perisic (£8.5m) – 9 points
  • Kieran Trippier (£5.5m) – 7 points
  • Mario Mandzukic (£8.9m) – 5 points
  • Sime Vrsaljko (£5.5m) – 5 points

Ivan Perisic (£8.5m) was the stand-out Fantasy star on Wednesday as he scored and assisted in Croatia’s World Cup semi-final win.

He latched onto Sime Vrsaljko’s (£5.5m) 68th minute cross to level the match, and it was him whose header was converted by Mario Mandzukic (£8.9m) in extra-time.

Kieran Trippier (£5.5m) was the only England player to register Fantasy returns after he gave the Three Lions a fifth-minute lead with an excellent free-kick.

Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Raheem Sterling (£8.9m) both had chances to kill the game off in the first-half but they couldn’t convert.

Croatia managed the match expertly in the second-half and extra-time especially, asserting control in midfield and pegging England’s wide players back.

In extra-time John Stones (£5.9m) had a 99th minute header cleared off the line by Vrsaljko and Kane’s back-post headed chance went wide.

Despite the fact that England will meet Belgium in the third/fourth place play-off on Saturday, Kane and Jesse Lingard (£7.5m) are among the most sold players for the final Gameround.

101,000+ managers have removed Kane, who still leads the race for the Golden Boot while Lingard has been moved on by 67,000+.

Croatian talisman and penalty taker Luka Modric (£9.1m) has now risen to 51.2 percent ownership, while Dejan Lovren (£5.0m) remains in 24.6 percent of teams despite the fact he has not kept a clean sheet since Gameround 2.

ENGLAND XI (3-1-4-2): Pickford; Maguire, Stones, Walker (Vardy 112’); Henderson (Dier 97’); Young (Rose 90’), Alli, Lingard, Trippier; Sterling (Rashford 74’), Kane.

CROATIA XI (4-1-4-1): Subasic; Strinic (Pivaric 95’), Vida, Lovren, Vrsaljko; Brozovic; Perisic, Rakitic, Modric (Badelj 119’), Rebic (Kramaric 101’); Mandzukic (Corluka 115’).

    begovic
    pva - robertson - keane
    salah(c) - sane - siggy - mili
    firmino - zaha - tosun

Not convinced on Mili but the rest looks good. Not worried about the lack of a premium striker slot?

A few people have said about the lack of a premium striker but I'm really not phased by it - I think there's greater value to be had elsewhere. The only reason it concerns me a little is for e.g. if I had aguero/auba - it would be easier to make the move to Kane - other than that not really no.

As long as you're happy you have captain options it's fine unless you plan to perma-captain Salah?

I just prefer to have a couple of options and as you say having 2 premium strikers could allow the move to Kane whilst letting me have an on form striker along side him without an early WC.

yeah if I'm going to put Salah in my team he is going to be getting the armband 9/10 times I think - made the mistake not to last season and it burnt me a bit - but who knows a lot could change between now and season start I definitely see the benefit of having a premium as the 3rd striker but would need to weaken the midfield/ bin salah

I get that and if he keeps up his form from last year then most people will be the same so we will need to out of fear as much as anything.

Could be a tough year if players like Auba, KdB, Kane, Salah and Hazard all fire at once.

Have to admit im coming round to the idea of Firmino as the lead striker supplemented with 2 mid priced players. Will Aguero really be worth 1.5m more than Firmino? in not so sure, maybe that money could be spent better elsewhere.

He's still been involved with the national team, and still is, team won't fly home until Sunday/Monday.
Then all the players involved will have a mandatory holiday, which I believe is two/three weeks..then they'll return to pre-season training.
          I doubt TAA starts GW1.

Lookman one to track in pre-season. Had a great loan season away and back with good starting fixtures. (5.5).

Is this a rib? Of the players you have named only Sane and Alonso will play the first week with a lot of the WC players only starting to come back week 3 onwards, add to that you’ve put in two 4.0 players and there are none that are nailed to my knowledge. You could have only 5 players play the first 2 weeks

One thing I've learnt over the past few years playing FPL (albeit not particularly successfully) and which I want to action this year, is to start the season with players/teams that were in form during April and May of the prior season, Mahrez/Leicester being the classic example of a player/team that carried end of season form through to August/September.

Personally, I've earmarked Crystal Palce as a form team, and will probably start the season with a triple up (Tomkins, Mili, Zaha) in light of their good fixtures from GWs1-9.

Any other teams/players that you expect to carry good end of season form through to August?

I've been thinking a little and I've thought of a few ones to consider from each side:

Arsenal- Ramsey- when he played last season he often got a lot of points and he looks nailed as Emery likes him a lot

Bournemouth- Stanislas- although he's injured he should be fit for the start of the season and is nailed when fit. Delivers high amount of points when fit

Brighton- Izquerdo- Has now adapted to the premier league and could be Brightons star player this season

Burnley- Wood- had one of the best goals-to-game ratio last season and has very positive fixtures

Cardiff- Paterson- hefty price tag but he was Cardiff's top scorer last season despite only starting half of the season due to injury

Chelsea- Morata- most probably will start the first few games with Giroud playing in the WC final. He also started last season well

Crystal Palace- Milivojevic- Surprisingly was Palace's top scorer last season and has a positive set of opening fixtures

Everton- Tosun: Had a good goals-to-game ratio last season and could hit the ground running with Everton's good early run of games

Fulham- Cairney- Only 5 mil and could play a more advanced role with the signing of Seri confirmed

Leicester- Gray- most likely to replace Mahrez's spot on the wing, and with a nice price tag, he could be well worth considering

Liverpool- TAA- looks nailed and has a very generous price tag which could really be worth it- also an attacking threat. Decent fixtures too

Man City- Mendy- nailed on this season after being injured last season. Could provide many assists like he did at Monaco

Man United- Lingard- Mourinho likes him a lot and he could progress a lot last season after a good WC

Newcastle- Kenedy- Solid option- nailed and could be involved in a lot of Newcastles goals

Southampton- Cedric- with nice set of opening fixtures, he could get a few clean sheets with decent attacking threat. Only 4.5m too

Spurs- Being a spurs fan, I would say Alli: got a lot to prove this season and will hope to repeat 16/17s high total

Watford- Richarlison- started last season well and has now adapted to the Prem. If he repeats the start of last season he would be a very worthy option

West Ham- Arny- most probably will increase last years success with better attacking options around him this season

Wolves- Douglas- massive attacking threat. Takes set pieces and got joint most assists in the Championship last season!

    Hope this helps

Yes, very much so. Plus so many of their squad will have a world cup hangover, and Kane never scores in August.

I think their slow start will hurt them and they'll miss out of a top 4 finish with Arsenal and Chelsea finishing above them. As such, i think all their assets are slightly overpriced.

      don't think it's that

it's more to do with the fact a lot of their normal starting xi is likely to miss the start of the season through fatigue / needing a break

      - lloris (to a lesser extent)
      - vertonghen
      - alderweireld
      - rose

I would go A over B even if they were the same price.

I watched Nice a lot last two years, so I can give a small idea how Seri plays.

He is incredible in the passing, I believe he had the most accurate passes of the season. Also he likes a trough ball and he had almost 100 key passes last season, top 3 in the league. Last season he didn't had his best season, I believe he really tought the deal with Barcelona was done. Last season he was good but not like he was the season before with 7 goals and 9 assists.

Seri isn't a ball-winning-midfielder, he is a box-to-box playmaker who wants to dictate the game. Also his pace is incredible and he is very agile. Fulham should be smart and play with 2 fast wingers because his long passing is incredible.

I believe he will be 5.5.

I am very excited. From what I've read he will fit our system perfectly

What do you think about my team? First time ever playing FPL:

    Ederson / Speroni
Alonso / Cedric / Coleman / Ward / Van Aanholt
    Masuaku / Groß / Salah / Ramsey / Stephens
    Firmino / Kane / Long

Any major error I should change?

Groß is too expensive imo, especially with Brightons bad run of games. Also Kane never starts well but other than that its very good IMO

Shane Long doesn't score goals. Downgrade defence and upgrade either Long or Masuaku/Stephens

Dejan Lovren believes he should be regarded as one of the best defenders in the world after helping Croatia knock England out of the World Cup.

The defender, who also reached the Champions League final with Liverpool in May, will face France in the World Cup final on Sunday and the 29-year-old feels he has proved himself this season.

"It's something special for me," Lovren told beIN Sports."From my point of view, people were saying I had a difficult season but I don't agree with that.

"I showed that I took Liverpool to the Champions League final and now with my national team we are in the final.

"I think people should recognise that I'm one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense I will say."

Why so much love for Walcott? If I remember correctly, last season people were vowing never to get him again. Siggy is a much better option if he plays centrally imo

Have to wait and see on Siggy and Walcott

How many Overall pts do you think will justify Salah's 13 M price tag?

250 pts should be enough yea?

I guess so because I think Firmino and Mane should be able to collect 325 points. So you need a 6.0 player who will collect 75 points.

Boring worried about WC players draft:

    Ederson (4.0)
    Robertson - Coleman - Daniels - Tomkins - Peltier
    Salah - Eriksen - Mahrez - Walcott - 4.5
    Firmino - Zaha - Arnautovic

    Could do:
    Ederson + Coleman > Pickford + Mendy
    and/or
    Mahrez + Robertson > KdB + TAA

But both seem more risk at the moment.

    D Silva, Salah, Lamela, Walcott

    Auba, Wilson, Firmino

    Button, Cairney, Tomkins, Schletto

    Cheers,

yeah he's a bit dody, has burnt me before. But can't see who else for 6m i'd prefer.

        Another way changing the following:
        Wilson > Tosun
        Walcott> Stanislas
        Cairney > 4.5

    Thoughts on this 4-4-2?

    Ederson
    Robertson - Bailly - Coleman - Doherty
    Salah - Sane - Sanchez - Jota
    Firmino - Wood

    Hamer - Tomkins - Stephens - Kamara

Form is always more important than fixtures. In my opinion, fixtures are almost irrelevant for midfielders and forwards. The only exception might be City and United away being fixtures to worry about.

First attempt. Will likely do another 2000 hours of tinkering before finalising. Good start or Shite?

    Pickford/Ederson
    Coleman/Arnold/Davis (Zanka, Ward)
    Salah/Mahrez/Son/Mykhi (Neves)
    Zaha, Arnautovic, Tosun
