Introduction to the article type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

To start, site regular and moderator Gregor has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted, and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Gregor’s RMT

Gunn/McCarthy, Fabianski
VVD, Bailly, Mendy, Cook, Wan-Bissaka
Salah, Silva, Mahrez, Mkhitaryan, Ward
Firmino, Zaha, Mitrovic.

Goalkeepers
Two great value looking goalkeepers for £9m with perfect home and away rotation and good home fixtures to start the season. If there’s doubt over the Southampton number one though I may get Foster and bring Cedric in as my £4.5m defender.

Defenders
I’ve gone with van Dijk over Robertson due to slight concern around Robertson missing the odd game around Champions League ties, if Liverpool get a tough group.

Bailly seems assured to start the season and no reason to think he won’t then keep his place. £5.5m to cover United’s defence looks too good to miss.

Mendy looks underpriced due to previous injury problems, cheaper than Walker and should be good for assists.

What I like about Cook is that he’s very bench-able as you don’t expect much from a Bournemouth defender, but he has the potential to produce when called upon and also offers perfect home and away rotation with Wan-Bissaka, who looks a no brainer for bench fodder at £4m – nice fixtures too.

Midfielders
Salah, the obvious GW1 captain, and I (hope) expect Liverpool to make a strong start before the fixtures stiffen.

Mahrez is nice and rested and Silva looks a great price for a guy seemingly nailed on before the family problems, and City’s fixtures from GW’s 2-7 make a City triple up seem entirely sensible.

Mkhitaryan could be an absolute steal at £7m. Tough opening fixtures but just can’t ignore a player of this quality at that price though.

Cardiff’s Danny Ward as £4.5m bench fodder, subject to change; he has a goal threat which is unusual at this price point, and easy to bench as you would expect Cardiff to struggle.

Forwards
Bobby Firmino up top to further tap into the Liverpool attack, with strong early fixtures and a nice price. I’d be surprised if he’s not fit to start GW1.

Zaha, the Palace talisman with pre-season form and strong early fixtures. I do worry he might move though so also got my eye on Tosun for this slot.

Mitrovic just edges out Austin for my third striker slot for now due to surety of starts, funded by trading Sane for Mahrez. Have always liked Mitrovic and should continue to thrive at Fulham now he’s the main man.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change?

Solid. How you feeling about Coleman? He's been in my team for a while but my faith in Everton's defence is wavering.

Not sure Laca starts so i wouldnt have him.

Cedric probably won’t start first game but you’ve got a good bench and he will be handy gw 2 onwards.

Possibly a few too many punts in midfield

Personally don't like the Cedric and Daniels picks. Cedric just seems like a trap. Always has decent stats, but hasn't ever produced the final product over the years. Daniels might fall out of favour now with the new LB signing. Seems like a bit of a nostalgia pick. Would go Cook instead of him if you want to keep Burnley.

Wouldn't have both SIlvas in midfield with Pedro. Seems a bit too risky.

Lacazette the only ? up front.

    Any thoughts?

    Ederson
    Robbo/PVA/Bailly
    Salah/Mahrez/Mkhi/Richarlison
    Aguero/Zaha/Arnie

    4.0m/Cedric/Stephens/AWB

Perhaps a Mkhi or Bailly switch - and I will do Aguero > Auba/Laca for GW3.

    A. Patricio
    B. Fabianski

Fab seasoned prem gk, saves a lot of shots. West Ham, in spite of their signings, will probably still be crap in defence.
Wolves great goals conceded record last year and signed good defenders, ostensibly anyway.

Why not both? They rotate pretty well. A bit dangerous to only have one 4.5m playing goalkeeper.
Ryan is another option if you only want one.

If Ings goes to Palace then Sorloth becomes redundant. Can save yourself 0.5 there if that happens and upgrade a bench player to a starter

Also why have Foster at 4.5 when you are probably going to play Ederson every week. Suddenly Tomkins becomes PVA or Coleman or Bailly or Luiz...................

        1. SomeoneKnows
          • 8 Years
          5 years, 9 months ago

I've selected Foster just in case Ederson doesn't play in week 1 because of the world cup...

As for Sorloth, originally I had Zaha and Richardlson instead of D. Silva and Sorloth but decided to switch because of the romuros of Zaha's move to Chelsea.

What's the best forward option for 5-5.5 mil?

  10. GianniBanani

    Ederson (Steke)
    Luiz, Robbo, Lowton (AVB,Perlier)
    Salah, Mane, Richarlison, Pedro (Cairney)
    Aguero, Arnie, Zaha

    Still thinking about:
    1) Fab/Foster rotation, then Luiz>Mendy
    2) Downgrading Lowton to 2x4,5 rotation (probably Tomkins and Cedric), but there will be no chance for fast Milivojevic move
    3) Mane > Eriksen (both KDB placeholders)
    4) Downgrading Zaha/Arnie to Kamara and improve def (4-4-2 then)

    Foster (Boruc)
Robertson Luiz Bailly (AWB Steve Cook)

I agree with you below thinking Jota is a good pick, but I've made a couple of changes . Might switch to something else again though haha.

Switched Robertson to Mendy and Jota to Mane for now.

Current thinking is Richarlison has a bigger chance to shine in those first couple of games and I can always switch to Jota.

    Playing a 3-5-2 mainly I guess?

I'd want to see more in midfield or defence with that current front two.

So to do that, I'd probably go Luiz and Mahrez then use the extra money to improve midfield. Seems too punty with Keita, Maddison and Jota.

Hard to predict who in the 6.5-7.5 bracket is going to explode though so maybe it's a good bet.

Cheers! Will be playing 352. Your right that my midfield is a little punty but I think one of Maddison and Jota will probably do well and the other one can become Mkhi/Ramsey. Also thinking of maybe doing Keita to Pogba at some point or Willian if he stays looks rather nailed on the right wing. Now thinking about, I maybe shouldn't be planning multiple transfers

One of them will surely pay off. Well hopefully. I'd likely back Jota over Maddison, but they both have their different pros and cons.

It's good to have alternative strategies in place, but yeah wouldn't commit to anything just yet.

Rich Schurrle and Gunnarsson all look punty to me. Need to upgrade then3rd MF somehow. One of them to a 4.5 and use the money to upgrade. See if you can stretch to Dilva.

    Patricio/4.0
    Azpi/Robbo/Bailly/Tomkins/4.0
    Salah/Mane/Dilva/Pedro/4.5
    Kun/Arnie/4.5

0.5 itb for Mane to Kdb by gw 3 or 4. Also will do Kun to Auba/Laca

RMT please and also two questions:
    a) Mane + Kun or Mahrez + Firmino + 2. With provisio that I plan to get Kdb + Auba/Laca by GW 3/4.

      Oops forgot second q.

      b) Shoukd I start with TAA instead of Robbo? That 1 mn could come in handy. But as I will be playing 442, whenTAA gets rotated I will be playing 10 players with 1/2 pts at most.

I'd get TAA and swap him for Lovren once he gets rotated

        Mane and Kun for me

Thanks. Yes Mane/Kun looks like a big hitting combo. The slight uncertainty over Pool pen taker also sways the decision.

TAA is more likely to get rotated compared to Robbo. I' have Robbo + Mane + Kun combo.

Callum Wilson to start for Bournemouth?

Looking for a striker around 6.5M or less that isn't Wood (already have him)

Why is there less Mkhitaryan love?

Also, do we see Heaton taking over Pope while he's injured? Decent FPL prospect IMO

Maybe late on they'll be listed at 4.0M?

How do people see Arsenal lining up? If they play a 433, surely Ozil won't go wing?

Aubameyang Lacazette Mkhitaryan would be a decent front three

I don't think Mkhitaryan is all that either but surely in that front three, he'll get points

Considering how strong Wolves look, I like Jota

Yeah I don't know either. It'll be 433 or 4231. I don't see Ozil not being nailed, but don't know where he'll play in a 433 either. I'm just happy to avoid and wait and see in these 2 fixtures. It's not like any of them are going to explode in these games

I don’t think Mkhi is guaranteed a starting place beyond first two games. To me he is just cover for Ozil in Arsenal bench. Also I am an arsenal fan and I think he is a luxury transfer. We should have got a winger when Alexis left.

Fair enough. If Unai Emery is sticking with the 433, I think Mkhitaryan is a good shout if nobody is signed

Tough market right now for quality wingers.

It won’t be 433 outright. Hybrid 4231/433 I guess. Ozil can play in the wings nominally in a 433. Between Ozil and Mkhi in real life it’s a no brainer.

    RMT Please

    Begovic/Hennessey (fixture rotation)

    Davies/Robertson/Mendy ( Wan bissaka/Peltier)
    Mahrez/Salah/Eriskon/Mikhy/O.Romeu
    Zaha/Tosun/Arnie
    ITB - 1.0

    1. Looking at Mendy to someone for first GW due to fixture and get him in using FT - any suggestions?
    2. Worried about being light upfront but good fixtures/pre-season form gives me faith ( backup is to WC if premium strikers start firing)
    3. Bench is weak? should i use 1.0 ITB to upgrade both 4.0 Defs to 4.5 ?

Why not go 4-3-3 instead unless you think Mhki will score more points than eg Azpil who’s 0.5m cheaper

Arsenal have a good fixtures and i believe he is nailed at the right wing, given they play 433, plus not really sure about Chelsea defence on how is preferred. Zappacosta and emerson both have got good game time at the back too, so holding my judgement on Chelsea starters.

But fair point, i think i can get shaw in for 5.0? and still play 433/343 and rotate mikhy/shaw

Shaw should start first couple of games. Monitor after that.

The keepers are horrible. Will hennessey even start? Suggest Fab or Patricio with a 4.0 bench fodder. Forget rotation.

Zaha might be moving to Chelsea which is not a bad thing. Tosun is meh.

I would suggest upgrade Tosun to Firmino or Laca and see where you have to generate value. Davies to Bailly perhaps.

Morning. I've had this same draft for more than a week.

    Ederson
    Luiz - VVD - Doherty
    Pedro - Hughes - Salah - Mane - Richarlison
    Aguero - Zaha
Stekelenburg - Austin - Chilwell - Wan Bissaka

    Going to swap between, 3-5-2, 3-4-3, 4-4-2

Any fresh ideas pls.. Maybe too much value in the bench?

Looks decent but Pedro, Richarlison and Hughes are all question marks. I have Pedro by the way.

Chilwell is rotated usually right? Might be better to have a guaranteed starter in his place. And I would start Austin when fit. In real life and in fpl:-)

Thank you. Chilwell and Fuchs both played at the same time in one of Leicester preseason game assume that Chilwell played OOP also good differential. I think Richarlison and Hughes should be nailed. I want to have some Everton players bcs of fixtures imo Richarlison offers best value. Pedro been in form and seems to be starting in the beginning of the season.

Their preseason results has not been the best but it is just preseason. Everton have quite much quality in their team so they should do well with those fixtures.

Difficult question. Premium def's are bit hard to say atm. Dont know how Arsenal and Chelsea will lineup and how well they defend. Spurs their players are still on holiday. ManU, difficult to say who's nailed for long term. I quess they will lineup for GW1 with Valencia - Smalling - Bailly - Shaw. ManCity you don't want to dbl and difficult to say whos going to play. So

      Coleman or Bailly

Thanks bud, not convinced by either tbh......everton have looked poor and not sure if bailly is nailed......could probably get davies now and transfer out for an arsenal defender in a couple of gws
