Fantasy Eliteserien Gameweek 18 Preview

Well past the halfway point, we are now ready to resume normal Fantasy Eliteserien service. We look ahead to upcoming Gameweek 18, overshadowed by the start of the FPL season, potentially giving managers a chance to catch their opponents out.

Chip-review

As a little review, we’ve looked at the Eliteserien chips to delve into their power and possibilities, here by looking at the maximum potential from the first half of the season.

Park the buss: Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: Park the Buss was a massive chip early on, as the double gameweeks in rounds 4 and 6 set up some huge scores for a lot of managers. Maximum payout for these gameweeks were 76 and 82 extra points respectively, and with a huge number of points for favourite players in gameweek 6.

2 Captains: Nailing your captain choice is always a difficult endeavour, but nailing 2 choices had some big potential if you targeted the double gameweek in gameweek 4. Gjermund Åsen alone picked up 30 points, with his teammate Kent-Are Antonsen delivering on a further 17; a potential 47 points there for the taking. Åsen was, at this point a popular choice, so quite a number of managers got a piece of this action as well.

Striker rush: Defying logic, the budget options take this one away, with a whopping 46 extra points being up for grabs in both gameweek 15 and 16. Central to these hauls are Molde youth star Erling Braut Håland, hauling 6 goals and an assist over the 2 gameweeks for 21 and 16 points respectively. He did this while Manchester United, amongst others, scouted him from the stands. Around him other budget names packed in some scores, with Frank Boli (Stabæk), Runar Espejord (Tromsø), Bendik Bye (Kristiansund), and Kristian Fardal Opseth (Bodø/Glimt) all scoring in double digits. While many might have had Håland in their side, few capitalised fully on the chip-opportunity for these rounds.

Gameweek 18 feature matches

Rosenborg – Stabæk
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Having sacked their head coach and his assistant, the caretaker coach set about adjusting the Rosenborg midfield somewhat, flipping the V for the midfield 3 and giving Mike Jensen the advanced number 10 role. This showed immediate effect as he netted a goal and banged one off the crossbar in their recent away clash against Ranheim. Jensen also showed some signs of form against Celtic in the champions league qualifier, and finally looks a decent option at his now 9.3 price tag. With their top 3 wingers on the injury-list, budget option Jonatan Levi is getting a lot of gametime, and has showed a lot of promise. We’re looking at him to break out against league straglers Stabæk this weekend. The lack of true wingers has also opened the striker spot for Alexander Søderlund, but he still looks a bit rusty and struggles to find the net. Niklas Bendtner is now out wide and not looking a big threat either. Birger Meling however firmly stakes his claim as the Eliteserien equivalent of Alonso, as he is storming up and down the line like a winger, seeing a lot of action in the box, and even netted a goal at Celtic Park in the qualifiers.

Molde – Brann
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Brann have been stumbling and are not looking as solid as they were in the first half of the season, but still look mighty strong. This matchup will be a true test as in form Molde are closing the gap fast to rejoin the title race, led by young star Erling Braut Håland and a solid midfield line. We’re looking at Eirik Hestad and Magnus Wolff Eikrem in the Molde midfield as big options as well. From Brann, Gilli Rolantsson once again scored in the last match, showing big potential. They have not had many penalties, but Wormgoor still looks a decent pick, and last match their midfield virtuoso Fredrik Haugen showed class with a great free kick in the back of the net.

MrKlin says..

In the midst of Europa League qualifiers, teams like Rosenborg, Sarpsborg, and Molde have hit the back half of the season running, looking to have picked up some form by their earlier resuming of play. This has resulted in good looking scorelines for the trio, but also offers rotation headaches for managers looking to get players in. Rosenborg and Molde are well covered, but Sarpsborg are, in addition to their qualifiers mid-week, heading in to a tough couple of games hosting, Lillestrøm and then away to Brann. Despite their form you might want to think twice about investing here, but putting Patrick Mortensen and Kristoffer Zachariassen on the watchlist now might be advisable. A huge home game for IK Start who, despite getting thumped by Brann, are showing signs of turning it around under new management. Winger Kevin Kabran is once more looking enticing and their next fixture is at home against a Ranheim team who are a bit out of form. An outside punt on Elliot Kack can also be considered, and at 4.2 this could be a good pick to free up some cash should you need it. Also have a look at Haugesund’s premium defender Alexander Stølås, who has scored good points in 3 of the last 4, and has some good fixtures coming up in his next 3.

Scout Picks

MrKlin’s picks for Gameweek 18

Bråtveit
Meling – Tønne – Stølås
Jensen – Akintola – Nguen – Levi – Kabran

What are your transfer plans and captains this week?

I'm looking at Bendtner as captain.

2FTs but I'm not sure what I'll - I may downgrade Hovland as one.

My big decision might be to play Attack! Attack! as I have Bendtner, Pedersen, and Håland

What are you looking to do?

    1. MTPockets

2FT - Stølås already in. Holding out for news update on Håland. If he's staying he's in. Bendtner captain.

          Stølas a nice pick too

Armband on Lord. Stølås in and given up on double Brann defence, kept Wormgoor.

Worried about my bench of Falch, Broberg, Gytkjær, and Brynhildsen so thinking I may need to wildcard soon.

Pedersen (K). If Johnson is doubtful then Espejord could be on his way in, Lehne Olsen also tempting.

Getting and captaining Jensen this round... had to downgrade to non-starter Helmersen in Ranheim up top, so will spend some time looking at shuffling the team, might wildcard pretty soon.

Also toyed with the idea of wildcarding now, there would be a sweet thing if I was to sell Jebali in Fantasy Allsvenskan and buy him in Fantasy Eliteserien now.... Fantasy Football crossover for the win...

As mentioned in the last article comments, Rosenborg signed an attacking midfield options in Issam Jebali today. This adds a level of uncertainty as he could displace either Søderlund or Levi moving forward, or even shift Jensen back on the field to occupy the number 10 role. Time will tell, but his stats over the last 3 seasons in Allsvenskan show a quality 20 goals and 15 assists over the span of 59 games (just over 5000 mins played). He did not arrive in time for the 2 coming Europa qualifier games, but is available for the league and might be a prefered starter to rest some players in a busy schedule.

Good info. Not going to buy into Rosenborg more until next week anyway, hopefully that settles and becomes more clear.

Jensen is firmly on my radar

Early coaches comments point to him taking the left wing now, that would probably mean Søderlund benched and Bendtner back up top.

Injury Update: Haugesunds Gytkjær has been out with a knock... this turns out to be a small fracture and he is looking at 6 weeks sidelined. Ibrahima Koné looks a decent budget pick as a 4.6 striker.

      Bråtveit Barli
      Wormgoor Askar Meling Tønne Kitolano
      Rashani Levi EUA Akintola Hestad
      Bamba Skålevik Gytkjær

What to do? 5.5 in the bank.

Considering Kitolano -> Stølås and Gytkjær -> Håland (if he doesn't get sold. Gyt has to go to get Stølås in). Or wildcard.

Kitolano apparently on medical at Wolverhampton, so would find a way to do that. If Håland falls through you could sidestep on Koné for the next 2-3 games to let options settle and emerge.

Cheers. The problem with Koné is that I already have three FKH players, and really want Stølås...

Kabran is also interesting, I think. Wonder what Jebali will cost.

Hedenstad was nursing an injury last time, if he plays tonight he'll be ok.

Rolantsson went off early last weekend with a knock, so the flag is based off that. Not sure about status, but didn't seem serious.

One to monitor, perhaps. Finnish press says that Stabaek has bought Slovenian attaking midfielder Filip Valencic from HJK which is the biggest club in Finland. He was voted the best player of our league at 2017 - 33 games, 15 goals and 12 assists. He started at one of the lesser teams and then mid season HJK bought him.

This season hasn't been so good. He's been fighting with the coach and at one game he even took his shirt off during halftime and said he wasn't going to play anymore. And he didn't. His playing time has gone downhill and lately he hasn't played at all.

So he has potential for good and bad. Let's see what happens.

My not so impressive front three is: Søderlund - Skålevik - Johnson.
With Søder and Johnson not looking as good options anymore, what do I do? I have two free transfers, and considering switching to two strikers.

Ends up a 2-0 win for Rosenborg, lots and lots of energy spent in the game though, may well see some rest for a couple of players this weekend. Not too many mind you, Rosenborg don't have much of a bench to draw on yet.

Sarpsborg managed 1-1 at home, and if the text updates are anything to go by the new goalie truly showed why he is first pick now.

Molde with a strong 0-0 away to Hibernian, all chances next week also there.

              A) Ederson & B Davies

              or

              B) Lloris & Mendy

I've been on A for a while and didn't get the Mendy hype, as I'm convinced he'll be rotated. But a last-minute change of heart?

I think these are not eligeble for play in Eliteserien (although I would love to see them there)

Yes, likely to be sold an loaned back.

I am on my wildcard, with a few punts.

              Vasyutin; Kongshavn
              Meling; Stølås; Tønne; Wormgoor; Askar
              Hestad; Kabran; Levi; Akintola; Smárason
              Jebali; Pedersen; Lehne Olsen

I hope and believe Jebali starts already on Sunday due to all the injuries. Both Kabran and Smarason play up front.

              Comments?

Levi might be getting to the end of his run with Jebali in the mix and Helland back over the weekend. No way for you to shuffle in Jensen there? Also not 100% clear if Jebali's work permit will be in order for the weekend (although we expect it to be fine).

The rest of the team looks rock solid

This is true. Should probably not gamble with both Jebali and Levi.

I actually had funds to replace Levi with Jensen. Thanks

Perhaps downgrading Askar (rotation risk with Europa League atm) and make funds available for Haugen, EUA, Mike J++

Nothing wrong with Kongshavn but I would keep as many TIL spots open as possible as they have cheap options all over the place, would probably go McDermott in goal instead. Otherwise good.

              A) Skålevik -> Braut Håland
              B) ?

              Linde
              Stølås Wormgoor Tønne Askar
              Aasmundsen Akintola EUA
              Pedersen Skålevik Bendtner(K)

              (Opdal - Reginiussen Halvorsen Granli)

Jensen the glaring lack there, alternatively you could save the second one, transfer window closes next week, might want to make your tweaks then too. The rest of your team looks decent for now.

Bendtner I think, he looks well off form, his forté is he can suddenly wake up, but if you are looking for cash you can get some out of there. Bendtner down to Lehne Olsen should see you free up the needed cash.
