Captains

Vote in the Captain Poll for Gameweek 2

With one round of the latest Fantasy Premier League season already in the history books, it’s time to start preparing for Gameweek 2.

Where better to start than with the all-important captain debate, which looks like it will be less clear-cut than it was in Gameweek 1.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) will obviously remain the favourite with his 54 percent ownership but his next fixture is arguably tougher than a home tie with a new-look West Ham side. In the final nine Gameweeks of 2018/19 the only outfit to keep more clean sheets than Crystal Palace was Liverpool themselves. Since James Tomkins (£4.5m) and Mamadou Sakho (£5.0m) were paired together again the Eagles have been a difficult prospect to break down.

For those not in possession of Salah, there are other alternatives amongst his team-mates including Sunday’s brace-scoring midfielder Sadio Mané (£9.5m), left-back Andrew Robertson (£6.0m) who assisted and kept a clean sheet, and striker Roberto Firmino (£9.5m).

Manchester City’s options certainly win out when it comes to fixture difficulty as they host Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon. However, the fact that every player has now returned to the group since the World Cup the dreaded issue of rotation could cause some problems.

Sergio Aguero (£11.0m) is the most backed ownership-wise, in 32 percent of squads, but could be benched to allow Gabriel Jesus (£10.5m) a first start of the season. Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) looks to be back in the conversation sooner than expected too, his seven-point haul in Gameweek 1 putting him on the captain radar, especially as his 2.5 percent ownership makes a potentially powerful differential option.

Just as Robertson may be considered for the captaincy, his Man City counter-part Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m) has forced his way into the conversation with 15 points scored against Arsenal from assisting both of his team’s goals.

Tottenham’s options have dragged themselves into the conversation after seeing off Newcastle on Saturday and preparing for a home match against newly-promoted Fulham. Harry Kane (£12.5m) may not have set the world on fire but with 31.1 percent ownership he should be considered by those in possession of him.

Elsewhere on the Spurs roster Gameweek 1 goalscorer Dele Alli (£9.0m) may be turned to as another differential option while Christian Eriksen (£9.5m) offers the more creative angle for the fixture.

Anyone brave enough to place their captain on a player from Chelsea v Arsenal have a few outside outside options. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) will be the obvious choice from the Gunners while Marcos Alonso‘s (£6.5m) performance against Huddersfield may have convinced some of his doubters. Don’t forget that Eden Hazard (£10.5m), backed by 11 percent, may alsio play a part in the fixture.

Make sure you watch our Captain video below and then vote in the poll underneath it. Why not tell us why you made your choice in the comments? We’ll be rounding off the debate later this week with another Captain Sensible article.

Unsure, but this article believes so - https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/man-utd-jose-mourinho-transfers-15020507

"Victor Lindelof was identified as United's most accomplished defender at 'playing out from the back' and there is an expectation at United his game-time will increase this season".

    My team

    Ederson

    Stones. Alexander Arnold David Luiz

    Fabregas. Salah Oriel Romeu Mkhitaryan

    Aguero King Firmino

    Bench

    Fabianski
    Yoshida

Seems like Fabregas is injured and won't start against Arsenal should I sub him for Predro or someone else or don't make any changes so I get 2 free subs?

Interesting team, but different at least - guess you'll go 4-5-1 a lot.
You weren't worried about Hazard at start of season after Belgium WC exploits?

Yeah it doesn't show your team, but gives you the link to it. (just click on the GW to see it for that week)

This is a wildcard squad (yeh, I know....).
It will be default 4-5-1 which I think will be the optimum formation this year.
Apart from next week Wan-B can slot in when necessary, as can the 2nd 5.5 striker if mainstays are rotated or Hazard doesn't play GW2 (I expect him to though).

Cold feet after seeing Pool in action - should I just make the transfer VVD->Rob? That left side is gonna accrue a lot of points.

Well, it was for his goal threat, but if that game was anything to judge by (yes, I know it’s one game), there’s gonna be a whole lot of crosses coming in from Robertson on the left.

Haven’t gotten the chance to see any of their pre-season games, so I guess this is an instance of changing one’s mind.

Cant say without the rest of your team. But if you are happy with all your players except VVD then yes, I think Robertson will get more points than VVD over the season.

Even I went for him but that’s because he has more goal threat and he’s more nailed (around CL). For now I’m going to stick with him.

Cheers. Yeah, it’s a bit knee-jerky, but if Robbo keeps crossing like that (5 assists in his last 9 games), VVD is gonna have to score a lot of goals to keep up.

I won’t move until I have to due to a price rise, I think.

I went VVD too and still bemused as to why he doesn't take free kicks, he's got a mean strike on him. There was one that looked perfect range and he wasn't even in with a shout - Milner or TAA. I guess it could be that they don't want to risk him getting injured from dead ball strikes as he's such an asset.

Good to see that Richalison have already rose in price, so I dont have to think anymore should I do Jota to Richa and can roll ft for GW3. Happy days and hopefully Jota bang a goal or two.

It was also nice that his price rose before his net transfers was reset to zero on being confirmed fit.

Maybe things like running red lights, speeding fines etc should start getting factored into the RMT tool and the captain's poll...

When pages are taking 30 minutes to turn over (with quite a few RMTs still involved - but told to go elsewhere) do the RMTs really need to be pushed elsewhere, where there are very few replies?

As a rare poster of RMTs and a frequent browser, I find it interesting to see how peoples teams are shaping up and its a pain on the arse on the mobile to keep flicking between tabs.

I know it was necessary during pre-season when pages were flying but now it just seems like nitpicking.

Just my 2 cents, if its even worth that!

Please take your RMT questions here:

I was about to post something similar actually. Especially since the only way to chat is in the comments for each article, the dedicated RMT article is practically impossible to find unless you know what you're looking for - so newcomers and infrequent visitors won't find it in the first place, ending up with mods replying to each RMT with 'please post here'.

I agree with this logic, pages moving slower and RMT are interesting to see from my stand point even if i dont comment on them

    3. BadgersBoys
      • 10 Years

Completely agree! There is no need to push RMTs onto another page and lock the post for replies so no one else can contribute if they wish. People post their team and ask for possible transfers/suns etc to be made and it still gets pushed to a RMT article than has very little responses..

Kun at home to a pathetic Hudds that got spanked by 3 vs. a new Chelsea team seems like a no brainer and is locked for me after a decent start in MLs.

He may very well be, hard to say. Only when he or Jesus are injured can we be sure who's starting.

I still think he's a good option even discounting for the risk of being benched (not sure why he would be, just seems monsters under the bed syndrome)

If a fella gets 2 yellow cards in a game, in statistics, will it be listed as 2 yellows and 1 red, so 3 cards total? Not talking points or anything.
