Is Lukaku back to his FPL best ahead of Gameweek 5?

Romelu Lukaku has the potential to complicate the plans of Fantasy Premier League managers in the coming weeks.

That’s because the Manchester United forward appears to be back to his best ahead of a run of favourable fixtures.

The Belgian’s underlying numbers have yielded three goals in as many matches so far in 2018/19, and five bonus points to boot.

When he was in form at the start of last season his ownership peaked at 60.2 percent in October, with his price at the time £0.8m higher than it is now.

So we’ve had a look at whether he’s worth including in our Fantasy squads again, especially considering he is backed by just 7.5 percent ahead of Gameweek 5.

Fantasy Football Scout members can read ahead, and also pour over Lukaku’s data in the Members Area.

Was Lukaku ever at his best last season though? Has he really been great at all at United? Pretty sure he only scored more than one goal in the FIRST game of the season last year right?

The stats look like he may be improving yes, but I remember last year that his ownership was only so high because he started really well in the first three games or so, as did United.

But his ownership and interest faded as the season progressed. That's not to say that he can't improve this season, but for me I think I can comfortably stick with Aguero for now and see if he can maintain his impressive stats.

7 goals and 1 assist in the first 7 games - only one blank, 2 double digit scores, almost 60% ownership. He was as close as they got to essential early last season.

Selling Lukaku after 8 games was the only good decision I made last season

Which means he scored only 9 for the remainding 31 games! I remember owning him for the first 10 or so weeks, then got rid and distinctly remember him scoring a goal a game but that was it.

Man United did finish 2nd and yet didn't score as freely as the other top teams. As a Man United supporter I expected a lot more from him to be honest.

And like I said, I hope he can improve but am not willing to jump on that just yet, because I can't see us scoring as many goals as Liverpool and City.

    (got bottomed)

Need some advice: to WC or not? V happy with how its gone so far (top 50k)- but really want some chelsea assets (haz/alonso) for the upcoming games

    Current team: (3-4-3)

    Pickford (4.0)

    Shaw / Mendy / Robertson (WB, 4.0)
    Mane / Salah / Mikiytarian / Walcott (4.5)
    Aguero / Zaha / Arnautovic

    WC Team: (4-4-2)

    Patricio (4.0)

    Alonso / Mendy / Robertson / WB (4.0)
    Mane / Salah / Hazard / Fraiser (4.5)
    Aguero / Wilson (4.5)

(btw please don't leave any comments about my bench being weak, prefer to have all of my money on the pitch)

    Cheers!

Looks great, but if I may, I would AT LEAST have players on your bench that are playing as you must remember that rotation can happen in this busy schedule coming up.

Other than that I see no reason to not WC as your WC team is solid.

Aguero/Salah home captaincy rotation has so far yielded 84 points. Is this the way forward?
With FUL, SOT, BRI, MCI (what probably will be a high scoring game), BUR, CAR, SOT, FUL coming up, I'm happy to stick with my tactic.

Home didn't really have a better average last season.

Aguero scored a hattrick and an assist away to Watford.
Kane scored a brace or better away to Everton, Huddersfield, West Ham, Burnley to name a few.
Sterling and Salah were scoring both home and away just as well.

Prioritize fixture. Home vs away is secondary.

Kane was an exception, remember how he trolled in most easy home games. Dilva was the only other player with a better away record than home. Salah was excellent everywhere.

Fixture is important as well but I think the Home captaincy rotation is a viable strategy. Personally I’m on the Salah strat, this week is a challenge to stick with it though.

Yeah I remember. Such a troll.

I mean, the home average could be slightly better, but unless it's significantly better, it doesn't really help us. I remember lots of occasions where away players were leading the Captain poll here and went on to haul. Kane was leading the Captain poll for at least 2 of the games I mentioned. So I don't get this new "strategy" of only captaining home players. Never heard of it in any season.

It's a factor of course, but only secondary. If they're playing a team that's particularly strong at home, then sure. But if it's like Cardiff away, it hardly makes a difference.

    Looks ok.....

Personally wouldn’t have Mikhi and bench is a bit weak.

Carrying these wrecks at the moment:

    Hamer
    Cedric
    Peltier
    Arnie
    Walcott
    Zaha

Any preferable order of getting rid?

      Peltier asap.

      Didn’t Cédric just Haul?
Hamer is sub keep so no worries.
Peltier is a problem but only if you need all of your bench.
Arnie still chipping away despite crap team.
Lolcott/Diveha would be priority’s but only if injured. I’d wait till pressers and move one of them if news is bad.

Sublime pass. As a United fan, it hurts to see him playing so well. But I've also had him in my FPL team from the start... Such confusing feelings.

Of course, I've just remembered it's a different Robertson.

Been looking at shifting Salah to Hazard this GW, but of course the big worry is missing a haul vs SOU. How about this move in GW7 instead? I think Kane has a higher ceiling in his 7/8 games than Hazard in 5 & 6.

    Salah/Ings > Fraser/Kane

I think you could afford to ride out the Saints storm as long as he doesn't go ultra crazy! Haz's games coming up are good and no UCL

Two transfers to get Kane + two transfers to get Salah back from GW9. Not worth.

I like the idea of getting Lukaku, but to afford him i'd have to swap Salah -> Mane.

That's not necessarily a bad idea but I think at least until the next IB i'm in the Salah camp by which point I think we'll have a solid indication about whether Salah is anywhere close to last season's level.
