Captains

Captain Sensible – Salah, Hazard and Aguero present Gameweek 6 dilemma

The Gameweek 6 captain debate looks set to be the most difficult of the season so far.

The top three candidates according to our poll all have favourable fixtures and can also boast impressive underlying numbers.

While there are alternative options worth considering, this week we seek to answer which one of Mohamed Salah, Eden Hazard and Sergio Aguero should get your armband.

Captain Poll

Gameweek 6 could prove an incredibly dramatic one as the most-sold player is the current captain poll leader.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) has already been transferred out by 219,000+ Fantasy managers but has a 30% share of our vote (at time of writing).

The Liverpool man has blanked for two weeks in a row, and five midfield options have registered more points than him so far this season.

However, it would seem that those who have voted in our poll are keeping faith in Salah based on some impressive underlying statistics that we’ll touch on below. A home fixture against Southampton is hugely appealing, too.

Currently occupying second place is last week’s hat-trick hero Eden Hazard (£10.9m), who has been backed by roughly 22% of voters.

The Chelsea man is now the only FPL asset to register returns in every match so far, despite not even starting the first two Gameweeks.

His next opponent West Ham are still without a clean sheet, and their defensive frailties should prove easy for Hazard to exploit.

Last week’s runaway captain poll winner Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) has to settle for third place this time around with 18% of the votes.

Large numbers of his owners will admit to being disappointed that the Manchester City forward only registered two assists against Fulham and no goals. That may be one of the reasons why more are trusting Salah and Hazard.

Also, the Argentinian picked up a knock in that match but returned to action for a substitute’s appearance against Lyon in the Champions League midweek.

The fact that he did not start on Wednesday night suggests that, at the very least, he will lead the line on Saturday when the defending champions visit a vulnerable Cardiff City side.

Not surprisingly, Fantasy managers are considering Sadio Mané (£10.0m) as the best of the rest, with an 8% share of the vote. The Senegalese midfielder offers a cheaper route into the Liverpool attack than Salah, is in good form and may relish a match against his former employers in Southampton.

Romelu Lukaku (£11.0m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m) both sit in the 3% bracket while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m), Jamie Vardy (£8.9m), Ryan Fraser (£5.7m). Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.4m) are the only other options currently above 1%.

    1 FT - Pedro to DSilva/Richarlison/Maddison. Thoughts?

I'm thinking DSilva v Cardiff and then on to Richarlison based on impact this GW

If you think he's gonna have an impact this week then why not get him now. If he doesn't have an impact you won't get him next week.

The thing that puts me off Silva is that nagging feeling that he might be rotated.

He'll probably play. But to have that seed of doubt about an 8.5 player... it's not ideal.

Agree. Can't think of other midfield options - already have Hazard, Mane, Pereyra and Hojbjerg. Just need someone in for Pedro and a couple in the bank that was originally saved for Hazard to Salah when Hazard dries in the future

Tosun been stinking up my team for too long , too many other fires to put out. He needs to go this GW, even for a hit.
But for who? Budget is 9.5:

    A) Vardy. Pedigree and fixtures, but form?
    B) Mitrovic. Red hot form, so-so fixtures
    C) Wilson. Form + fixtures. Already have Fraser though
    D) Firmino. Showing some form, but minutes managed? Most expensive.

    Cheers!

I'm on WC and I'm getting Laca (alongside Kun and Mitro)
I think he will start on Sunday
It feels like a high scoring game

When you look at the fixtures Laca -> Vardy on GW10 fits like a glove

Vardy's fixtures really good except GW9 , though, and cheaper. But Mitro still cheaper, could use funds in midfield

I went Mitrovic. Since you already have Fraser go for either he or Vardy. Firm has tough fixtures coming up and isnt on pens. Vardy is and I think Mitro as well

It isnt really. Someone did a hot topic on it sometime back I think. Mendy offers that width which Sane also offers and is arguably a better crosser. Only way I see them playing together is if Sane goes to the other side and they've also only started
mins of Charity Shield action together plus a few other sub appearances for Sane

That's the first time they've started on the same flank and, second time they've started together full stop.

The fact he hasn't done it since suggests it didn't work....

So basically, even when fit, there's every chance Mendy could miss out for Sane then with Delph stepping in?

    Wilcard Problem

Activated my Wildcard this week with the aim to get Lukaku, Kane & Aguero in (at the sacrifice of my whole midfield), based on next fixtures. After looking at it now...my midfield is giving me sleepless nights.... Stick with my original plan or Change it??

    HENNESSEY (begovic)

Sakho has been my low owned player from gw1, not keen to shift him as he loves the bonus.

I feel palace will keep a cleanie against Newcastle so hence my headache.

On a WC - thoughts on Shaw?

Leaning towards Shaw and set and forget Patricio, rather than Yedlin and the Patricio/Begovic rotation

I make you right. I want Shaw, but I dare say it is a risk.

I've held him since GW1, I don't see any reason to sell!

Think TAA is better and soon you will want Liv def so why waste FT later ( assume you dont have Robbo )

Genius. Of course it will be the inevitable one time where Moreno plays (but hopefully he'll get the cup game midweek).

Okay had to WC after a stupid knee jerk. Opinions appreciated:

    Foster / Patricio
    Mendy / Alonso / robbo / awb/ bennet
    Hazard / mane / richarlison / Fraser / hojberg
    Aguero / lukaku / ings

Tempting to change mendy if injured but would miss out on a large price rise. Also could go lukaku to lacazette to upgrade elsewhere?

If you have a shoddy bench, the Ings move to Mitro would be great. If you have a solid bench, probably Arnie - but he's a great pick against anyone.

As stated below, the optimum move depends on the state of your bench

Am I best to save funds here?

    0FT £1.2itb
    Foster
    Alonso, Mendy*, Robbo, PVA
    Salah (C), Mané, Fraser, Pedro*
    Aguero, Wilson

    (Fab) (AWB, Hughes, Kamara)

I think my bench is ok to take a Pedro or Mendy no show right? Or is Pedro > Rich (-4) worth it?

    Cheers!

Anyone who watches Man Utd and Spurs, can you give me the run down on the current status of Shaw and Trippier?

Just eyeing up defenders in case of bad Mendy news. The Shaw funds would be incredibly useful.

United fan. Shaw is first choice for now but carries that unfortunate injury risk. Think he starts this weekend and then young plays the capital one cup and then he starts next weekend. Another issue is his relationship with Mou. One bad game and he could be benched for a long time again
