Captains

Captain Sensible – Richarlison tops poll in complicated Gameweek 13 debate

Gameweek 13 of Fantasy Premier League could prove the most difficult for the captaincy this season.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool are on the road this weekend which robs us of the opportunity to back a Salah or Aguero home captaincy.

Meanwhile, Chelsea travel to Spurs leaving the door open for a differential to prove the most popular. But is he the right option to go with?…

Captain Poll

Gameweek 13 sees a surprise leader emerge at the top of the poll in Everton’s Richarlison (£7.0m). No player has garnered more than the Brazilian’s 33.47% backing in the vote so far and when we dig a little deeper, it’s easy to see why. The makeshift centre-forward has three goals and one assist since Gameweek 8, recording an average of 6.6 points per match in his last five league outings. This weekend he goes up against a Cardiff City side conceding 2.2 goals per away match this season.

Below Richarlison is a selection of captaincy household names that have not quite earned the usual support from their owners. Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) have rotated home fixtures quite nicely so far this season but both of them are away this weekend. For that reason, just 22.53% of our voters think Salah is worth captaining at Watford with even fewer (16.89%) supporting Aguero at West Ham.

The last time the pair were ruled out of the captaincy (when they faced each other in Gameweek 8) we were fortunate enough to see Eden Hazard (£11.3m) present a favourable trip to Southampton. This week Chelsea are away at Tottenham, pulling the Belgian out of widespread consideration. Accordingly, he looks set for a 10th-place finish in the captain poll with just 1.59% of the votes.

Raheem Sterling (£11.2m) heads up the best of the rest outside of the this week’s top three with 4.73% backing, after two goals and three assists in the last three Gameweeks.

He is followed by Anthony Martial (£7.6m), whose six goals in five matches has convinced 3.93% of you that he is the optimum captain for Gameweek 13 when Manchester United host Crystal Palace.

After that, it’s Salah’s Liverpool colleague Sadio Mané (£9.9m) with a 1.94% share.

Matt Doherty‘s (£4.9m) potential for big returns against Huddersfield has convinced 1.68% of our voters to back him for the armband, no defender has more backing for Gameweek 13.

Despite boasting more encouraging underlying statistics than team-mate Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.5m) sits way down in ninth on the captain poll. That is almost certainly as a result of his current fitness issues, although his price does mean that his ownership is 20.6% lower than his Brazilian colleague.

Ok mate. Bellerin was always a handsome young man. Then he became a little confused. One morning he decided he liked the look of Ricardo Rodriguez. That is all well and good. But the confusion kicked when Andy Carroll supported his man bun. Bellerin wanted to find an in-between. He messed up

Hello guys. What would you do with this lot:

    Patricio
    Robertson, Alonso, Doherty
    Salah, Hazard, Richarlison, Murphy
    Aguero, Arnautovic, Wilson

    subs: Button --- Mendy, Hojbjerg, Wan-Bissaka --- 1 FT, 0 ITB

    A) Mendy -> Laporte
    B) Mendy -> Dunk and bank 1.8 for future mid upgrades
    C) Something else, what?

He can. Players only get 'price protected' when a red flag turns to clear. A red flag just means more transfers out are needed for that player to drop than normal.

I agree with Mourinho when he says society has become too soft and that young people as not as well prepared to cope as a result. Their lack of maturity and self-discipline is harming their progress as individuals, and happiness.

Players like Shaw were ill-disciplined, and Jose's tough-love has turned him into a much better player, and a more happy one as a result. I'm all for kindness and equality, but we mustn't be afraid to offend people, and tell them hard truths.

      Agreed with him also.
Saw a tweet from Linekar calling his comments disgraceful.
But I thought he was spot on, modern footballers generally seem to be about making the money, just a reflection of the modern world in general I guess.

Have you seen the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive"? It's incredible.

Seeking constant approval from others through likes and shares can be so damaging, and the episode is great at showing how emancipating it can be when you stop giving a sh*t!

I've not, I don't really watch TV, but friends of mine have told me I have to see it whenever we have this same conversation.....probably why I don't get invited to parties anymore!

But I absolutely agree with what you've said there. Maybe going a little deep for a fantasy football forum, but I would recommend to anyone to delete all their social media accounts and as you say stop caring what random internet strangers think of you.

(I hope someone upvotes this purely for the irony)
