Meet the Manager #10 – Mark McGettigan (aka FPL General)

With top 500 finishes in three of his last four seasons Mark McGettigan, aka FPL  General, is a more than worthy interviewee for our Meet the Manager series.

Mark explains what it takes to make the leap from being a good Fantasy Premier League manager to one who is challenging for the top places in the competition.

As well as patience and an aversion to hits, he believes that bravery in the transfer market and avoiding the crowd are important lessons to a successful ascent up the rankings.

He also reveals why underlying statistics are only one part of his Fantasy management jigsaw, which is dominated by the good old-fashioned eye-test.

The FPL website’s own Watchlist tool is another vital weapon in Mark’s Fantasy management armoury. He discusses why this often overlooked function has been so important to helping him better organise his thoughts regarding transfers.

However, with a current rank just outside the top 400,000, he faces one of his toughest tasks yet in 2018/19.

As well as sharing his strategies for success he also analyses where it has gone wrong this season and how he plans to turn it around.

Tapping into Manchester City’s potent midfield and ending his reliance on mediocre captains look key as he aims to once again finish strongly.

    Hi all,

    Just hit button on Barkley and Aguero > Brooks and Auba (for free) to beat price moves, leaving cash for Haz > Sterling.

    But should I do that next move for a hit tomorrow to get Sterling in for Watford, or wait until next GW to do it for free?

          Thanks for feedback - yeah I couldn't beat Brooks in that price bracket, but tbh I really struggled to escape the Barkley trap, was an awkward price point. We'll see how it goes, but at least he's an upgrade on Barks, and allows Haz > Sterling!

        There is a Robbo TAA double-up school of thought spreading its way around at the mo. Even with the rotation risk, I feel you need 3 city attackers.

        I wouldn’t go for Laporte - don’t need to cover a defence and he may also get rotated.
        Look at Everton (Digne or Mina), Arsenal (Bellerin), Doherty - lots of options to save some cash

            I'm kind of the opposite actually - I got him in on my FT as a one-week punt before I wildcard. I'm just afraid that he'll miss more games than Sterling/Sane in December so he's likely leaving my team when I wildcard.

      One player absolutely nobody has mentioned as Aguero replacement is Gabriel Jesus - if Aguero is indeed out, I don't think it's that unlikely that Jesus outscores both Kane and Aubameyang.

        Jesus was poor against Bournemouth tbh. Should've scored once or twice. Could be on pens though... someone earlier said theyd done Aguero to Jesus but not sure how true

                  Salah has a fantastic fixture and Hazard's fixture is pretty good too. Also Son is too much of a rotation risk.

                      Salah has been consistent of late but I do agree he is too expensive. I just don't think this is the week to get him out esp for a hit. Without a hit then sure, could be OK.

                      Hazard had a lot of tough fixtures and had an injury. He's still the main man at Chelsea and I think he will deliver - looking past City fixture they have a great run of fixtures.
