Scoutcast Episode 278 – Greatness

Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Mohamed Salah certainly provided a timely reminder that he is already one of Fantasy Football’s all-time greats on Saturday, with a hat-trick at the Vitality Stadium against Bournemouth.

But even that impressive display is seemingly not enough to convince all of the Scoutcast crew that the Liverpool attacker should be an essential part of their festive lineups.

Joining Joe, David and Luke in this week’s episode is Adam Hopcroft, who has featured on our Meet the Manager series and is among those still looking to ditch the Egyptian.

During a “Salexit” discussion in our community questions section, Adam reveals that there may well be better premium assets who are more deserving of attention.

In contrast, Joe and David are still backing the Reds’ marksman following his recent goal glut, which also includes a midweek strike against Napoli in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Luke is resolutely continuing his no-Salah policy, even though it cost him dear last time out.

Salah unsurprisingly dominates the crew’s look back at Gameweek 16, including a special instalment of Rough with the Smooth, dedicated to those who jettisoned the Liverpool man before his weekend heroics.

The crew also provide an update on the latest whipping boys and the potential captain candidates who look set to exploit their frailties over Christmas.

Elsewhere, our community questions section takes in the emerging battle between Fantasy Premier League’s old guard of veterans and the new, social-media-and-price-prediction-site-savvy managers on the scene.

The crew round off with a look at the best differentials and clean sheet prospects in Gameweek 17, as well as revealing their transfer and captaincy plans.

Sane 45+90 minutes over the two games
          Sterling 90+90 minutes.

Not saying Sane will surely start .Could see all three of sane sterling and Mahrez starting, with Mahrez playing a bit deeper.
or Sterling could be flanked on each side by Mahrez and Sane.

Pep has messed around with Sterling's position. Clearly not worked. He will play 90 on the right or not at all with Mahrez instead. Mahrez more versatile and Sane usually the scapegoat though.
Interesting to see Delph came on for a cameo. Pep likes Sane playing with him so you could be right.
            All guessing anyway!

Sane coming on for cameos and Sterling staying on the bench when they don't start isn't guaranteed to continue though. It could have just been the circumstances for those specific games.

Reason being Sane due a rest and rotation a worry. Hazard will play 100% and has better fixtures starting with Brighton this week.

If you have no other pressing concerns it could be a good transfer. I totally understand wanting to get off the Pep rotation wheel, although obviously Sane could burn you.

Sane played just half a game vs Chelsea.. Sterling got a rest just 2 games ago. I own both and I'm keeping both atleast for 2 gws. Expecting both to start.. Either way with City mids u just need to leave them in and enjoy a healthy average over a run of games. Reconsider after the next 2 home games. Sane will explode in one of them atleast

Frees up a bit up cash I suppose, and could be an ok move when looking at fixtures and Snodgrass has firm right now.
When sober might still decide to double up that attack with Fanderson too.

    Gameweeks 18-21

With 4 gameweeks and 40 matches completed in a two week period, will we see most rotation at Everton and Spurs? And least rotation at Liverpool?
Coming after Arsenal in the cup, Spurs fit their festive matches into 10days (Sun 23 Dec to Tue 1 Jan) Everton do too.
Yet Liverpool have longer rest (using the full 14 days to play 4 games) as they kick off Friday 21 Dec and complete their quartet of matches on Thu 3 Jan.
I’m sure scouts are working on a report on such a topic on all 20 teams over these Gameweeks.

Certainly think 4 in 10 is a lot- will Kenny, Zouma, Holgate, Jags, Baines, Davies, McCarthy, Schneiderlin (flagged), Lookman, Tosun, Niasse and Calvert-Lewin see some game time ?

Arsenal and Spurs have 5 matches in 14 days (inc their quarter final). Can we expect their bosses to use their full squads over that time especially in the 10-11 days of PL matches?
Even Bournemouth & Leicester have 5 in 15 inc Chelsea & City quarter final.
Fully playing squad of 14-15 seems to be way forward.

Nope! I think he will continue being a guaranteed starter for every match and also continue being subbed off at 60-70 minutes but ticking over with a goal or two at home matches and not much when away. More so since neither Sterling as a false 9 or Jesus in general have done much to stake a claim in his absence

With disappointing stats of late (xGI way behind Siggy and even behind Gomes over the last 4 weeks) and 2 difficult fixtures up next (mcy, TOT) what are Richarlison owners doing?

Most will have a bit of value tied up in him, but I’m thinking a switch to a Spurs/City midfielder could be the way forward.

    1. Differential C (Mark)

Will you start him for both these games? I think keeping or not probably depends on whether you think he or Siggy is the best EVE attacking asset to own. I’m swaying towards Siggy now and thinking of ditching Richarlison this week (probably for Sane as I have some cash in the bank). Will then look at Siggy (or maybe Richarlison) in a few weeks.

I don’t know how it happened but I obtained Siggy a couple of weeks ago and Richarlison just before that. I’m thinking of selling Siggy as only 0.1 rise so no value on him and 0.2 rise on Rich. Also own Digne who will be 3rd sub v City but I will play him v Spurs. Don’t want treble Everton and not sure why I got Siggy for last couple. I had 3m itb so upgraded from Højbjerg. Seemed fun at the time.

Fixtures aren’t great, but LIV are solid defensively this year, and Trent is cheap and attacking and on some set pieces.

Fair points, but they've conceded in 75% of their league games against top 6 teams so far this season... and they face top 6 teams in 3 of their next 5 games.

Definitely rule out Pool defensive suggestion if your not having any of it. Doesn’t sound like you fancy Pool defence just yet till City March is out the way. After than their fixtures look strong.

Who’s the strangest player on your watchlist that you most likely won’t actually get in all season?

Mine are Lössl, Yoshida and Sissoko. Unlikely to get any but started to monitor over last couple of weeks.

All the talk about City rotation.
it always has happened and always will. Players still score high.
The big difference is ALL SIDES will rotate this time of year.
Get 14 players who can score for the inevitable.

      5 years, 6 months ago

You are the one talking about city rotation above :). Agree though. Get city mids.. Keep for 4 weeks, expect a healthy average over 4 weeks, don't stress each and every week. Camarasa, Diop and Awb off the bench and to the rescue if needed. Everyone in every team could potentially be rotated

      1. Valar(Keith)

And get CBs if you want to ensure you have playing defenders in December.

I mentioned Sane and there is a concern with him and Sterling as I have them both. I will not move him out though just to get another big hitter who will be just as at risk.
I will have AWB Doherty/Digne and Fraser/Chica off the bench. Good enough I think.

Thoughts on something like this a move or two gets me there. For attack 3 big hitters of Sterling Haz and Auba with 2 hammers and Erik for fixtures. What ye think?
Any other suggestions for the Schindler spot max 4.4
    Is bench of
Jimenez/ Snoddy, Kamara and Schindler too weak?

    Ederson Hamer

    Alonso Robbo TAA Kola Schindler

    Sterling Haz Erik Fanderson Snoddy

    Auba Jimenez Kamara

Huddersfield at home have actually quite surprisingly been good. So maybe a clean sheet in GW18 or 19 at home. Plus sch likes to come up for corners so might be due a return ? Decent player to have on bench and Kamara is cheap but has played two full seconds half’s and a 90mins since the gaffer came in. Hit back of net a couple of times too. Again decent bench player with 4 decent fixtures coming up and some game time hopefully. Clearly Jimi or Snod are great first subs.

I have Alli in the Haz spot right now.
After this week I could go
Alli and Erik to Haz and Sane, but then no Spurs attack and I only got both in for GW15.
        What you think?

Our bench, as in how strong it is, could be the real differential over the hectic period of games. I'm very happy with my current bench but took a few hits in recent GWs to get to this without a WC:
    1. Hamer (have Ederson)
    2. AWB (cheap, nailed on and some attacking threat, the dream cheapie)
    3. Camarasa (cheap, nailed on, on some set pieces and potentially on pens now)
    4. My final bench position will be shared between Digne, Jimenez and Fraser.

    How's your bench looking?
What plans do you have to address your bench, if any?
