FPL Fixtures: Early guide to possible blank and double Gameweek dates

Manchester City’s victory over Liverpool last night marked the end of a hectic festive period in which 40 Premier League matches were contested across 14 days.

FA Cup third round weekend now brings some welcome respite in which to take a cursory look at the weeks and months ahead.

We’re only six Gameweeks away from the first mini-blank of the season, with the final of the EFL Cup set to be contested on the same weekend as Gameweek 27 in the Premier League.

Barring any seismic shocks in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, Manchester City’s Gameweek 27 match against Everton will be one of the Premier League games to fall victim of that schedule clash.

Burnley v Spurs or Chelsea v Brighton could also be affected, depending on which of the London sides triumphs in their forthcoming semi-final.

Gameweeks 31 and 33 will also very likely be blanks for some top-flight teams, with the FA Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals set to take place on those weekends.

At the moment, the much-anticipated “double Gameweeks” look likely to be in Gameweeks 32 and 35, given that the midweeks following those scheduled Premier League fixtures are the only ones not affected by European club competition or the March international break.

Forward-planning is not just about navigating the blanks and doubles, of course, but factoring in which top-flight sides have a congested fixture schedule around their league games.

Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City are in EFL Cup action twice in January, while those three clubs plus Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal recommence their UEFA Champions League/Europa League campaigns from the middle of February onwards.

We’ve cobbled together a calendar for the remaining Gameweeks of the 2018/19 season, though in some cases (Premier League fixtures from Gameweek 29 onwards, FA Cup from fourth round onwards) the dates are subject to change due to the whims of the relevant television broadcasters.

The FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League finals take place after the Premier League season ends, on Saturday May 19, Wednesday May 29 and Saturday June 1 respectively.

The excellent Ben Crellin is an invaluable resource at this time of year, particularly his “percentages” spreadsheets regarding the chances of all 20 Premier League clubs being without a fixture on a blank Gameweek.

    A) Son > Hazard

    B) Anderson > Sané

More tempted by B as I currently have no City attackers.

However, Hazard probably the standout captaincy option next week.

    Tough call.

      prefer B

Chelsea really struggling, averaging 1 goal per game so asking a lot of Hazard to haul. And Newcastle fairly solid in defence

Well he got 13 and 15 points over the December/Christmas schedule.... if Chelsea score, it's super likely he's involved (and once he is he's in the BAPs) so the fact they're not scoring too many isn't that big a concern.

        1. Fantasy Gold

          Yep, good point.

I understand both are great options for next week and in Anderson’s case, he’s good value long term.

It’s more the fact that I see Hazard/Sané as more essential

So many players got double figure hauls in that period and cost a lot less. You highlighted Hazard's only double figure hauls since GW8(didn't realise just looked up. Shocking!)

So why was he suddenly essential after them 2 hauls? Every man and his dog that didn't have him was regretting their decision to get rid and now he's had 2 blanks since people are talking about getting rid again.

If he blanks against Newcastle and Chelsea continue to look bad then maybe I'll think about getting rid. But after 2 blanks is just crazy.

      I would ship them TBH,

I've been to the Bridge last few games and we are struggling big time. Hazard has a huge burden and the other attackers are useless to be frank, so it's Hazard or bust for goals (that or a set piece).

Alonso is playing poorly and a lot of fans are surprised Emerson is not starting. He may get CS but not threatening much.

Kinda depends.... if you can afford the extra .2 then Kamara. If that .2 is going to be super useful for affording the player you want then maybe Quaner.

But also depends on how strong the rest of your bench is and if you have many rotation risks in the team.

If it's on your WC, then definitely not B.

.... why? Has fantastic fixtures after this one and he's been so consistent this season. Bargain for his price.

Keep Rash. Only lose Jim of upgrading to Arnie or better

Make transfers or wait till after cup games? Teams will probably rest top players anyway?

    Fabianski
    Bissaka - Digne - Robertson
    Salah - Felipe - Hazard - Pogba - Camarasa
    Kane - Rashford

    Bench: Button, Jimenez, Doherty, Yoshida.

1M ITB and 2FT. Any suggestions on what I should do here?

Repost from a few pages ago, anyone know when players who moved today (e.g. Solanke, Clyne, Puncheon) will be updated in FPL?

Think I’m going to go Kane & Hazardless, as I can still get this team...

    TAA - Luiz - Digne - Doherty - Bednerak
    Salah - Eriksen - Pogba - Richarlison - Camarasa
    Auba - Kun - Arnie

    Decent?? Any changes needed?

Just realised, that would mean no City attack and want to avoid that tbf. Would want Sane at least.....

I doubled up on Liverpool with Robbo and Lovren if that helps. Digne good attacking threat but Liverpool best defence atm
