Alonso benched and Higuain makes league debut as Son returns

Gameweek 24 comes to a conclusion on Wednesday evening as four top-flight matches take place.

Bournemouth v Chelsea and Southampton v Crystal Palace get us underway at 19:45 GMT, with Liverpool v Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur v Watford scheduled to kick off at 20:00 GMT.

Marcos Alonso is benched for the first time in the league this season as Emerson Palmieri – who impressed in the Carabao Cup semi-final, second leg against Spurs – is handed a start at left-back, while Gonzalo Higuaín makes his Premier League bow up front for the Blues.

Eden Hazard is thus deployed on the left flank for Maurizio Sarri’s side, with Pedro getting the nod on the other wing.

The Cherries are without Callum Wilson this evening, with Joshua King leading the line for Eddie Howe’s side.

Ryan Fraser starts as expected, while there are places on the bench for January signings Dominic Solanke and Chris Mepham.

Son Heung-min is back in Spurs’ starting XI and looks set to play just off Fernando Llorente as Mauricio Pochettino once again deploys a wing-back system.

Christian Eriksen is also primed for a more advanced role but Kieran Trippier only makes the bench.

Javi Gracia has made three changes to his side from Watford’s last league outing, with Daryl Janmaat, Craig Cathcart and Will Hughes drafted in.

Virgil van Dijk has recovered from illness to line up at centre-half, with one of Jordan Henderson or Georginio Wijnaldum potentially filling in at right-back after a cursory look at the teamsheet.

Xherdan Shaqiri joins Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in the Liverpool attack.

Claude Puel has made three alterations to his Leicester City side following the 4-3 defeat to Wolves: Jonny Evans, James Maddison and Marc Albrighton being handed recalls.

The fit-again Vicente Guaita returns between the sticks for Crystal Palace, with Wayne Hennessey named among the substitutes.

The Eagles are otherwise unchanged from the team that lost 4-3 to Liverpool in Gameweek 23.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has named the same eleven players in his starting XI that lined up against Everton, meanwhile.

Bournemouth XI (4-2-3-1): Boruc, Clyne, S Cook, Ake, Smith, Surman, Gosling, Stanislas, Fraser, Brooks, King.

Chelsea XI (4-3-3): Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Emerson Palmieri, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Pedro, Higuain, Hazard.

Southampton XI (3-5-2): McCarthy, Bednarek, Stephens, Vestergaard, Valery, Hojbjerg, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Targett, Redmond, Ings.

Crystal Palace XI (4-3-3): Guaita, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, van Aanholt, Kouyaté, Milivojević, McArthur, Townsend, Ayew, Zaha.

Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson, Henderson, van Dijk, Matip, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Keita, Shaqiri, Salah, Mane, Firmino.

Leicester City XI (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel, Ricardo, Evans, Maguire, Chilwell, Mendy, Ndidi, Albrighton, Gray, Maddison, Vardy.

Tottenham Hotspur XI (3-4-2-1): Lloris, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Aurier, Winks, Sissoko, Rose, Eriksen, Son, Llorente.

Watford XI (4-4-2): Foster, Janmaat, Mariappa, Cathcart, Holebas, Hughes, Capoue, Cleverley, Pereyra, Deulofeu, Deeney.

It's Sarri system failure more i think.
Playing players OOP has cost him.

He's not realising how ineffective Kante is, in that number 8ish position. He's a destroyer, either play him in that position or sell him elsewhere.

Can't stress how highly regarded Sarri and his methods were before coming to Chelsea, is it another sign that the players at Chelsea are really the destructive force behind successive coaches? I think Sarri can replicate his exciting brand of football he had at Napoli but he needs backing in the transfer market and some time to do it, not sure he'll get either

OR English PL is not his cup of tea ??
His system revolving around s player who is bullied every other match here.

I think Kante to his natural position is the only change he has to make and other things can automatically fall into places.

So is Boruc 1st choice now at Bournemouth? Nice wee Button replacement if I can ever find the transfer spare to do it. Also, seeing the odd comment about potential Fabianski injury, what's that then? Ta

Good stuff if so, Bournemouth have a dream run from early March until the end of the season and nice to have a playing backup keeper until then.

I waited until 10 mins before deadline before pulling trigger on Alli>Sterling. Had planned Danilo+Hazard 2 days before but went cheaper def so had Sterling or Hazard option

Think it'll work out. City can afford 9 days rest after the Chelsea game so I can see Sterling getting 150+ min in the DGW.

That's what I'm leaning to as well, but that means going without either Sane or Sterling for the DGW. Do have Aguero at least.
Getting over-enthusiastic about DGWs hurt me last year so deciding to play it sensible this time round.

          Yeah.
I was committed to keep Hazard at first, but he & his teammates seems to have dropped the balls on Sarri i think. So just staying away till gw28 or further.
Will get him back for dgw i think

Yeah, that's my worry too but they have to beat HUD to stay in the Champions League race so I think they'll manage. Still scary when I think I could have another City mid for him though...

Would you take a hit to drop Hazard for Sane before the double? I won't do anything until there's some news on Pogba, if his situation is anything serious I have just enough to swap him out for Dilva.

Wouldn't sell him for a hit, perfect time to prove his worth again. I'd also start AWB over Kolasinac, think Arsenal will concede plenty.

I'm on like my third last chance with Hazard, today's fixture with Bournemouth and the arrival of Higuain should also have been the "perfect time"...

I'll consider that defensive switch, but I've really got Kola in there for his attacking potential, and I have no idea what to make of Fulham at the moment. Are they dangerous? Are they just flailing wildly until relegation? Who knows.

Not sure about your sale prices, but I think you should have the required funds for Alonso/Kamara > Robbo/King.

With a third forward you're a little better positioned for the blank, and I don't love King but Wilson will apparently be out a few weeks and with his recent haul you'll probably see some rises if nothing else.

0.6 means you also have just enough for Arnautovic. Perhaps the boot/crutches today were just a precaution? He's got Fulham at home GW27, if he's fit he's also probably worth considering. Maybe only spend one free this week, or address that keeper situation along with the Alonso transfer, and choose a third forward closer to the blank.

Wait for news on fabianski, but would be tempted to drop either him or Patricio to boruc. Doesn’t look too bad other than that. Liverpool defender in for Alonso either this or next week is the other thing I’d do. And I’m keeping haz another week myself, but then dropping for son I think

Brooks - Favourable fixtures from gw30, no blank gw, slightly rotation risks if there are midweek fixtures
