FFS Cup

The latest FFS Cup fixtures and results

We’ve reached the semi-final stage of our second FFS Cup of the season.

The quarter-finals were resolved after the final two matches of Double Gameweek 35 on Wednesday evening and all of our semi-finalists broke the 100-point barrier in this round of fixtures.

Roger150 did likewise but was unfortunate to come up against
Ibra-gum, who prevailed by 123 points to 109.

Ibra-gum is the lowest-ranked manager left in the competition but his successful Bench Boost in Gameweek 35 lifted him 97,000 places to just outside the top 100k.

FFS moderator Rotation’s Alter Ego continued his fine season with a 110-71 win over HPCAMPBELL, who had an overall rank of 262 coming into Double Gameweek 35.

Rotation’s Alter Ego now has an OR of 1,716, with a Triple Captain chip still to use.

Our highest-ranked remaining manager is LOKOMOTIV, who is positioned at 1,298th – that being his best rank of the season so far.

LOKOMOTIV, who beat dark91 102-81 in the quarter-finals, also has a Triple Captain chip still up his sleeve.

Skogen89‘s successful deployment of the Bench Boost lifted him inside the top 20k for the first time since Gameweek 10 and helped see off Hi Ho Silva Lining by 115 points to 82.

Skogen89 is another FPL manager who still has their Triple Captain chip intact.

The full quarter-final results were as follows:

Hi Ho Silva Lining8262631vsSkogen8911517965
HPCAMPBELL71829vsRotation’s Alter Ego1101716
dark9181701011vsLOKOMOTIV1021298
Ibra-gum123101067vsRoger15010973131

The two Fantasy managers who lurk just outside the top 1k, Rotation’s Alter Ego and LOKOMOTIV, have been kept apart in the semi-finals.

The full draw is as follows:

Skogen8917965vsRotation’s Alter Ego1716

        Stats says Mane
        Hearth and experience says Salah.

Salah, Kane got the mindset where they always wants to score goals. While Mane, Hazard etc are okey with not always scoring.

Looking ahead to the next season, do you think our team will cover all players who take penalties with the introduction of VAR? Do you think it will be even more boring season with everyone having the same template, players like Siggurdson, Milivojevic, Neves, Ritchie being in everyones team?

    1. bigbudgie
      • 9 Years

Is there statistical evidence that VAR increases the number of penalties? I seem to recall that was the case at the world cup, right?

first column score, second column awarded:

        16 1998 France 17 18
        17 2002 KoreaJapan 13 18
        18 2006 Germany 13 17
        19 2010 South Africa 9 14
        20 2014 Brazil 12 13
        21 2018 Russia 22 29

They have VAR in Serie A, wonder what the peno stats are like there this season

I wouldnt look at other leagues because the standard of refereeing in other top leagues is a lot higher.
Some defenders get away with some nonsence actions in PL. My peak was two seasons ago I think. when Newcastle went to West Brom, and their defender literally used wrestling move on Mitrovic and referee saw that clearly didnt give penalty. After 15 minutes their defender used his hand to stop the goal, his hand was so wide it was supposed to be a red card. That perdiod I think Newcastle hadnt had a penalty in two years or something.
FA clearly didnot want VAR because that will show that the refereeing standards are poor in the league, and also you wont be able to favour certain teams. I expect they will purposely make mistake with VAR and make it hard for everyone

I love PL because of the physicality if play.
I hate players diving/making most out of tackles.
Maybe i want this to stay 🙂

Okay, I found a study which shows that in Seria A and Bundesliga there hasnt been a significant increase in penalties since introduction of VAR.
However, in world cup there was!
I think in Premier League there will be an increase in penalties, because most teams have better attack than defence. Most teams' attack is agile, fast and technical.
Just suppose two mid table teams play against each other, ie Bournemouth and Everton. The attack is clearly better than defence, so with VAR most tackles will be seen.
In Bundesliga there have always been a lot of penalties as referees are using handbook word by word unlike PL referees who are not consistent (ie one day they want physical game another not)
Seria A defensive psychology is the reason there was no increase in penalties. Its hard to get into box in Seria A anyway with most teams defense approach

I have done my eye test, on average in 7/10 games there is AT LEAST 1 penalty referee misses. Its going to be a fun season. I remember one game few gameweeks ago when referee did not give 4 penalties that were stonewall. I mean like with VAR there will be many funny results. Look at Real Madrid and Juventus who couldnt make it with introduction of VAR. It is clear that referees in PL are giving favour to some teams.

This, but I bet that the number of penalties that will be awarded when they weren't originally given will be higher than the number that will be cancelled due to diving etc. The new handball law comes in as well.

Thoughts on what to do lads?

    Lloris
    TAA, Valery, Duffy, Laporte
    Mane, Eriksen, Son
    Aguero, Jimenez, Rondon

    Foster, Jota, Masina, KDB**

I'm thinking KDB + Eriksen ----> Salah + Babel (-4) and then benching Valery

    Thoughts?

    1. bigbudgie
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 2 days ago

Sane seems to be coming back into the spotlight. But what about KDB > Bilva leaving enough money to upgrade Rondon? Could you get a Firmino or Rashford?

Depends how desperate you are for Salah

      1. Puyol Pants Up
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 2 days ago

I dont mind Rondon, got him as my Deeney replacement with the idea of keeping him for the rest of the season. Good fixtures.

But yeah, I have considered KDB -> Bilva, it does seem the sensible move. It's just that so many people don't have Salah for the final stretch... He himself is a small differential

Yes. I had always planned to get Salah in for this game. A big reason is that the remaining triple captiners will be on him. Question will be whether to keep him after this week. new WOL is pretty damn good. Will he outscore Sterling from now till the end of the season?

            Yup its tough.

            Salah + Babel
            OR
            Sterling + Moura

Hard to know which one to pick.

I just get the feeling that Sterling is still not quite the talisman for City that Salah is for Liverpool. I'm very comfortable owning Aguero in that regard. He's won the title for City before, I can see him doing it again

I am just getting everyone who takes penalties.
My season is an upset as I was top 2k for most of the season, then my template got broken due to Son departure and Kane injury. Then Manutd started suddenly scoring goals had to change everyhting, then forgot about Sterling. Now I am top 15k, but i thought top 1k was a real possibility.

If your primary objective is to win your league, going with Mane makes sense.

        Ryan and JWP
Brighton have a decent chance of a clean sheet
Southampton have more chance of scoring goals than Brighton does. And multiply that by a hundred when it's JWP vs Duffy. Don't bookmark this.

Haha cheers, what about Gray though? His home form is good I think 3g2a in last 5 home games or something

            how about 6g 2a all season... 🙂

I just think there could be goals at Southampton, just a gut feeling

Gray for me. Scoring a late goal could be good for his morale, 6 goals 2 assists yes but hes only played 1200 minutes. I got JWP aswell, had him only for BB tho, can't see myself playing him again.

              And Ryan for the goalie.

Jota away form is bit concern.
      So Hendo/Babel
      Redmond is ....
Deulofeu only loves relegated teams 😛

    C. Clark is Newcastle United's 3rd highest goalscorer this year with Perez being first and Rondon being 2nd! 😮

If I were voting for Newcastle's player of the season I would vote for Rafa Benitez!

I'd vote for Mike Ashley for keeping hold of Rafa

    Foster (Ryan)

    Robertson Duffy Vertonghen (Bennett Bednarek)

    Son Eriksen Mane Sterling (Hojbjerg)

    Aguero Jiminez Rondon

1 FT and 0.1 ITB. Who do I take out Eriksen for, and should I do it?

      I think you're gtg.
If Erikson is rested I think he gets zero minutes. Your subs are okay.
The extra ft will be useful next week. Ryan out maybe?

    Couple of questions

    1) How has FUL been defensively? 2 CSs in a row but looks like they have been conceding too many chances

    2) Best 5.1 DEF, especially for GW37 and 38. Can keep Doherty, worth trying Shaw/Lindelof?

    Thanks all

    A) Sterling and Eriksen to Salah and Bilva for -4?
    Or
    B) Kun and jota to Salah and long for -4?

Both looks like poor move to me, probably A has some chance of matching the left side
